It took almost 6.5 weeks but they later told.me they needed my undergrad transcripts that's why it took that long... its but usually takes 3 weeks.

Riburn3 you are absolutely rightmentoring is important to a new grad's growth in this profession. If you are not careful you will get caught up in trying to make a quick buck which will end up costing you in the long run.

I guess as a new grad you take what you can get until you get you feet wet. There are other variables we will have to consider. I will probably take a 90k with good benefits over 110k with crappie benefits.

What type specialty are you working and are you a new grad..just found out I make more as a rn than a new grad np sad but true

My rn pay is salaried for 12 hours 3 days no overtime. It's night shift and that's by choice with very good benefits. Honestly I did not think I will get paid what I make now but I also was not expecting mid eighties either. I just want to start working as an np because I busted my tail for this

We all know as a new grad you sometimes do not have that much options especially in areas like Houston and Galveston. I have three job offers and can not decide on pay. One offer is from a state instution and I was so shocked. Let's say it's in mid eighties with state benefits and the other two are with private practice with pay based on productivity and RVU...Benefits not so great and possibly inpatient rounding. Currently make lower end of 100 as an RN with good benefits, should I just stay in my current job where I am very comfortable.

Endorsement in Texas takes forever, I passed my boards in September, I applied for my NP license and I just got it last week. Buckle up ....give and take if you have everything they need 4 to 6 weeks. And you need a license before NPI, DPS, DEA, ETC.....Good luck

Just out of curiosity #reddgirl why is GRE a requirement unless you are applying to a BSN to DNP, the thought of taking a GRE for a post MS DNP education will just discourage me...I hated the whole GRE exam, I will take 10 NP board exams before I take another GRE.. But I agree with you the whole application process is a drag!

Still waiting on TX board of nursing to issue my license, this is just ridiculous. Now I am told not to call or email them because "that ****** them off" (I am not sure how true this is). Its almost 2 months and am still waiting and prospective employers have no time for this and so do I. I am this close applying to another state and moving there, 234 APRNs moved out of Texas in the last 2 years (TX BON website) and I wonder why! The texas BON is not friendly and the term "customer service" is not in their vocabulary. This to me is bullying, taking my application fee and not communicating to me? Where else is this done? I feel like I am in North korea right now!

Very interesting. ..well I went for a second interview, toured the place and it was no different than any long acute care unit with the exception of all the prisoners wearing white. The other cool thing is the providers do not work for the prison system they work for the teaching hospital that has a managed care contact . I a am still thinking about it, I have 3 other interviews to go to and then I will decide. Thanks for your input.

Sure shadowing will be great to get a feel of what actually goes on there as a provider. From what I understand as a provider you don't go to the inmates they come to you at the clinic/hospital inside the prison. The bit of going through shake down is not my cup of tea though. The jig on this is its also comes with competitive salary, state benefits plus loan forgiveness. All is nice and groovy but it's a prison that's what scares...

I met up with an old physician friend of mine and I asked him to help me find a new grad position as a FNP. Well he promised to have a friend call me and possibly help me find a position with well known university health system. Well I did get the call alright but to my surprise the position was in a well known prison in South Texas with hard core inmates. He tells me I will learn more in the prison system in a year than any where. As much as I want to be challenged as a new grad, I am not sure of working in the prison system. Has anyone worked in the prison system and if so do you care to share the pros and cons.

Thank you globalRN for your advise and insight. I have decided not to take the position and continue looking. As much as I wanted the position, I also want to provide safe care to the patients I come into contact with. At this point in my career my priority is to find a practice or group that I can grow with. Thank you all for your response and input, it was very much appreciated.

Great point and I totally agree that sometimes we have to put ourselves out there.

#Dshowers great tips for job interviews..the problem though is this thread is not about resume presentations and interview etiquette. As I would like to say colloquially "she ain't getting no jobs" to even make it to an interview to utilize your nicely laid out interview pointers. Your tips are great for some one who is having job offers left and right and having interview problems. Another thing we forget when we come to this forum is that this is a national forum and we tend to give advise base on where we live without taking other variables into consideration such as geographical locations , specialties, rural areas, PA dense areas among others. Let's not be quick to come out and assume our colleagues are doing something wrong that's why they are not getting jobs. Every situation is different, here in the Houston area acute care jobs are more available in the metro area than places like East Texas or West Texas. And almost every ad is asking for bilingual NPs, am originally from a tiny little town in South Carolina and don't speak a lick of Spanish or Arabic . So let's be a bit sensitive and considerate when responding to others on this forum..JABS not cool:no:

Supermedic Thanks for your comment ..I am very much aware of the consensus model however been a hospitalist does not necessarily mean placing arterial and central lines. I am originally from up north and there are tons of fnp's that practice internal medicine in the hospital setting. If we are to make that argument then one should safely argue that fnp's do not belong in the ER. My concern is taking this position as a new grad and icu coverage, if I do that then I will be practicing out of my scope.

I am a new grad and got an offer today for a hospitalist position 7on/7off in a 326 bed hospital a metro area, the offer is good and I am really interested however as a new grad I am not sure if this is a good career move. I worked as an ICU nurse but, I have no experience writing ICU orders and when I ask if an internsivist was going to be around I did not get a straight answer from the physician, any thoughts! Its true I need a job but I also want to follow the rules.

Ironically I was looking at the same thing this morning Rush in chicago has agcnp dnp.

They have received my app, transcript, verification of address etc.. and the left side of the column is blue... no reds meaning they have everything they need. When I called, the "smart mouthed" attempted to explain to me the difference between "30 business days and 30 days". Which translates to 6 weeks, to me that is ridiculous, they need to find out what other states are doing and ectype. We paid our fees and if they need help, hire some one to expedite these services people are eager to go to work. it does not make any sense to graduate and in 4 weeks of passing your boards with no license and no tangible explanation as to why you don't have one. Here I am about to loose a position by the end of this week because if this and they could careless.

Riburn I have been a nurse for 12 years...7 years in ER and 5 in STICU. I actually went to school in Lubbock but jobs in houston is shut! Like I stated earlier there are tons on Acute Care but no primary care jobs!

Where in Texas are these supposed new grad jobs ?? Because I am in Houston and can't find a new grad fnp job, every body is asking for acute care np. Luckily I have a job that pays me the same if not more as an NP I would been broke too. Tell me where the np texas jobs are and I will be there...

Hi there, I need some information on the TX BON time line on issuing APRN license. I initially applied for a license on Sept 10 and took my boards three weeks later and passed. I currently have a job and my prospective employer is getting "Antsy". Can any one tell me from your experiences how long it took the TX BON to issue an APRN license after passing boards. Most of my classmates out of state are getting their applications processed in days why it taking TX BON "forever". Help!!! I don't want to loose my first job before I start. I called Austin but their unfriendly staffers were not that helpful..

When should you really start studying for the FNP certification, we have 2 semesters left and for our first exams our prof is suggesting we start studying certification review books. Is this routine or she is making us jump the gun?
