  1. For me it depends on the way they died and their age along with if the family was prepared. I work in the ER and the traumatic injurys and children bother me the most I don't know that I ever will get use to it. I work I an urban area with high crime and I see alot of shootings stabbings and MVC patients. I will never get use to children CPR's especially the abuse cases. The older patients are getting easier but it is hard emotionally dealling with the families my heart breaks for them and their loss.
  2. 4Y/O little girl with a boggy skull, bruises from head to toe, and soaking wet. Dad said he was trying to cool her off because she was running a fever and she started to have a seizure. I didn't believe that from the start but the thing that irritated my the most is that he was able to go back and forth from the trauma room to the family room ALL day while they investigated. He wasn't charged till the next day for the murder of his own daughter. He got to go home with his pregnant wife and two year old child.
  3. When I am listening to your lungs Do Not make a loud vocal noises to make me believe you are having more trouble breathing or pain It hurts my Ears!
  4. I do everyday I work in the ER and we specialize in "Train Wrecks" at least 50% of our Pt population is on dialysis if you can call it that they dialized once a week compassionate dialysis only if their K+ is high enough we have frequent fliers that come in with a k+ of 7.4 ... its so bad the when their are several of these types of patients we will guess whose k+ is the highest mine won last week 8.8
  5. my cramps have gotten alot worse also and period is much heaver and longer. but i have 4 great kids and don't want any more so benefit definately out weigh the risk
  6. Can someone explain to me why Some nurses eat their young. I am in an ER internship and i love the work and the patients. I work in a ltrauma center and its very fast paced. My only problem with myself is trusting my own knowledge and skills. My problem with the place is some of the other nurses on my unit are just plain hateful. They make rude remarks that have nothing to do with my competency. I am new in this profession and new to this hospital add those to the fact that I am nervous and not very good and standing up for my self and I tend to avoid confrontation. Heres the best part she is one of the charge nurses. I feel like I have made the biggest mistake ever. One nurse did stick up for me once when I was told to do something in a very degrading manner. Several of the hateful nurses told her that she was over exaggerating and blew her off. How am I suppose to stick up for myself when I see how they did that nurse. I wish I could say that my preceptor was one of the good guys but she is just like them only she is more subtle about it. Is it like this everywhere or have I just chose the worst place to work? HELP any suggestions
  7. I really wanted to think maybe it was something else. I do think you are right it not a good fit. The problem is the RN's who precept new nurses get a $4000.00 bonus for precepting. I really think that if I ask for another preceptor that I will end up with the same problem that I already have. Someone to follow around and be thier punching bag while they collect a big fat bonus check for doing so. I think that if you like to teach then you should precept not because they are paying you that much extra. Thats just and opinion but my greatest respect now and hope it will always will be is for those experienced RN's to take us new grads under their wing and teach us the right way to fly.
  8. Does anyone feel like thier preceptor is trying to make you quit? I have only been with my preceptor for a couple of weeks but it really seems like we don't click. She will ask me if i have done the skill before and I will tell her yes once about a year ago. Then she wants to witness each one which you would think she would be going to assist or guide me .... something of that nature.....NOT HAPPINING!!!...Instead she will wait until I have missed a step such as securing the Pt's NG tube or hooking it to suction... and will simply tell me you wont forget that step next time will ya?? Maybe its me but I don't feel like this is a very good way to learn from my mistakes especially when I cover myself and the Pt with their own stomach contents. It is not just with proceedures its with alot of things that I do. I feel like I don't know anything and that I am destined to fail. Anyone have any suggestions???? I am a new nurse in the ER and I love the area and the patients but i just don't feel like I can keep my head above water.
  9. I am one month into my internship in the ED and It has been ok up till now. We are not paired up with one preceptor there are several ineterns with one preceptor. I don't feel that we are able to get enough guidance. It takes several attemts to get a question answered. We spend alot of time asking each other for help....not that its a bad thing but. It sure feels like the blind leading the blind. It seems that I had this image built up in my head of what it would be like after finishing school. I really feel like I don't know anything and will never get the hang of all of this. Is this a normal feeling ....or have I made a big mistake??
