  1. I work nights which includes q other weekend. Our weekends are Sat/Sun for all shifts. If you work weekend nights what does that mean in your hospital? Sat/Sun or Fri/Sat?
  2. Thanks-keep your fingers crossed! I am not sure what floor my friend had in mind. She has been there forever and thought it would be a good floor for a new grad. I think rotations would be tough. I really don't want to do rotation but will take what I get!
  3. I am hoping to get in there for an interview! A friend works there and is trying to help me. How do you find the parking? I am a little nervous about the offshifts and walking around that area at night. Does that sound stupid? My ideal job would be 3-12's at night. Do they have a formal new grad program in March?
  4. thanks for the info. Do you know how much it is if you work q weekend?
  5. Can anyone who works at BIDMC explain the shift differentials? I know the base pay is around $26.00. What can you expect as a new nurse if you work the night shift?
  6. One more thing- nursing exams are completely different than science exams. I had straight A's in all science classes-Biology, A&P, Chemistry but in nursing B's and I worked hard!!! It is totally different. You are right not to take nursing for granted.
  7. I chose an ADN program at a community college. I did have to wait to get into the program which at first I did not like but it was definately to my benefit to complete all prereqs before starting the program. The program was tough and those who had other courses to take struggled or did not make it. I also have a BS and do not care about ever getting my BSN. I work with others who have gone to private ADN programs make the same money as I do but have loans to pay.I am happy with my choice of a community college ADN program. Good Luck and remember 1 year is not very long!!
  8. I can't stand gross feet!! yellow toenails!! It's the worst for me!!
  9. We run blood by gravity. If you use a pump at 125/hr and the PRBC = 225ml won't it go in too fast?
  10. In my community college program most of us were 2nd career students who already have advanced degrees in many different fields so we have taken the HARDER courses. We also have LIFE experience that does not come with a BSN. The decision to go to a community college is usually based on several variables. These programs are wonderful and do prepare RNs for the workforce-just look at the base rates compared to rates for BSN programs- no difference in my state.
  11. I am a new grad working on a med/surg floor. I have a wonderful preceptor and have worked up(barely) to a 3 pt load. My preceptor helps me a lot!! today I had meds through a NGT, 2 good sized dressing, a blood transfusion through a VAD(1st time I accessed one), a nausous pt with no orders....... notes. I am a little frustated because I really like it but I am not sure how I can be faster and still maintain safe practice. I have been on my floor for 5 wks and do have at least another 8 wks but it's a tough job!!!
  12. I am 45 and grad in May,started my first job in Aug. I agree I was going to be 45 anyway and I do not want any regrets! Go for it!:mortarboard:
  13. Maxim in MA pays 26.25 + milage
  14. The problem with cheating is bigger than school it's how will these people who cheat be good nurses. They are taking the "easy" route through school and are basically dishonest. I would not want a nurse like that working with me or taking care of me!
  15. As part of my employee physical a drug test using a hair sample was done. I may also be required to submit urine samples if asked.
