As a new grad on a med surg floor I have had so many days where i honestly wanted to quit!! But im happy to share my great last night! All my patients were angels and i went to help an elderly man to the BSC after he urinated on his sheets. As I was helping him to his feet (he was kinda shaky) and said, "would you like to dance?" It was truly a great moment because you could tell he was a gentlemen. We laughed and I made sure he had everything he needed, changed his gown and bed and tucked him in. I wish he was actually able to dance with me!! a special moment for me. THAT is what i love about nursing.... those special caring moments. :redbeathethanks for reading!!

With halloween now over, does anyone have any ouija board stories? I recently stayed at the Myrtles plantation in St. Francisville,la and was too scared to bring a ouija board. Like many, im fascinated about the idea. Please share:uhoh21:

Hi. I have been beating myself up about my first mistake in nursing. Im a new rn grad and have been on tele for 3 weeks. My pt was chronically anemic and has received blood many times. when i arrived for my shift the other shift nurse showed me how to hang blood and this was the first time i did it myself instead of watching. my preceptor is great but let this nurse guide me. (i have 3 pts for the first time) so, it was started at 50ml/hr with 400ml to infuse because thats what the nurse starts it at i guess. my dummy self, even though i know blood should be infused over 4hrs or less left it at 50ml/hr. after 5 hrs of start time and lab wondering when they can draw an h and h i finally asked my preceptor if i could increase it. i know!! dumb! she quickly infused the rest and apologized for not paying more attention. i apologized and blame myself. the pt was fine without reaction and the h/h increased to norm. i felt overwhelmed with the blood, 3 pts, a discharge @ the same time, accu checks rn's have to get, the phones, and the "new jitters". what happened?? can anyone relate....advice please. thanks:)

most women ovulate 14 days after the first day of last period. i dont think its possible unless its a miracle. a sign of ovulation for me is minor ovary pain and stringy discharge. But, i always have protected sex because CONDOMS ARE EASIER TO CHANGE THAN DIAPERS!!!!!!:chuckle

I am a new grad also and wanted to work in the ICU. But, my hospital quit allowing new grads because so many were deciding that it was too overwhelming. I understand why since alot of time and teaching is put into that newbie and then they leave. So i plan on working in telemetry for a year and then progress towards my icu pathway. but since you are already there i would stick it out as long as i could. but thats me and i dont know what you go through. some of my friends started in icu and they felt similar to you. wish i could help more. i passed the first time with 75 questions, 3 calculations in which i know i got one wrong, and so many select all that apply i couldnt count thhem. i thoight i failed.... but passed!!!!

I have the same problem too. I start orienting in 3 wks and am mostly scared about turning bright red when i give report. im trying to just focus on my hard earned accomplishments and remind myself i have nothing to be ashamed about!! i was the girl that gave awful presentations...... but i never stopped or gave up. With me the blushing disappears over time when the newness is over and i know what im doing know that you are not alone and more people than we probably think share the problem. im sure we share many qualities like a big caring heart and a drive for excellence. good luck!!!

William carey is hard. it is quite easy to get in. The formula for entrance is based on GPA, the HESI score, and how long you went to carey(prereq's). Most teachers are great, especially the ones displaced from new orleans and gulfport. Only a couple of teachers were unorganized, but that is everywhere. Carey grads get bragging rights! trust me its that hard

Ummm hello, hemorrhage is the most important. I would rather be in pain (pain level or surgery was not specific) and hyperventilate than to HEMORRHAGE and lose consiousness or die. If your patient just had a coronary stent and the sheath site check was his right femoral vein, which was hemorrhaging and he complains of pain.... I hope nurses wont run for the percocet or morphine!! These type instructors are why im suddenly a bad test taker!!!!!!

know what an antipyretic is!!!! Hand washing handwashing, asepsis, portal of entry, pain is fifth vital sign, nosocomial infections, ADPIE, open verses closed questions. just a few... good luck!

Is it true that lakeview regional hospital is private, and will therefore send rn's home if not needed? Im a student and heard not to work there b/c hours are not always guarenteed. Also, do you have to have experience before ST, Tammany or Lakeview will hire a new grad?
