  1. He could see a dermatologist for environmental allergy screening - testing can be done not just for latex, but for a host of other dermal irritants.... i had the same thing happen - I am not allergic to latex at all - and it was not the gloves, For me it is actually particular alcohols - Purell, some scrubs... I can now survive using Avagard and handwashing alone - no Purell or other scrub options. Good luck to him!
  2. Thank you! I came from upstate - so I may be spoiled with by the ambiance - I am just a bit disappointed by initial visual: dirty lounge, no lockers available for new employees, someone sleeping in a chair, it just felt unprofessional - but it is NYP Columbia - It has to be better than it seems...
  3. Hi - Desperately trying to find out info about the OR"s in the city - I just moved back to the city for a position and, unfortunately, feel I need to quickly look for a new one!!! I live in Manhattan and would love to hear any info / opinions about the dept. heads, staff, environment, lounge/locker rooms, etc... Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Hi! Seeking info on NYC OR"S - all boroughs - mainly major centers... Going to NYP/Cornell open house for the OR- but would love to hear inside information - Finally trying to moving back to the city!
  5. Thanks for the thoughts - especially using Hibiclens alone - it will be the best way to find out if it is the CHG.... then I can take it from the thre - meanwhile - still searching! all the best!
  6. Hello - I am fairly new to the OR and have been struggling with moderate to severe contact dermatitis to surgical scrubbing. I had a RAST test and am not latex allergic. I have tried to do trials between alcohol only - and to just CHG formulas, both traditional and waterless. I keep getting the rash and having been having to keep in under control with Protopic RX. (i do have eczema history...) I am hoping someone may have found some surgical scrub options that worked for them - thanks for any advice!!! I definitely do not want to be forced to end my new career!
  7. Hello! I am planning on trying to move back to the city from upstate - and am seeking info on OR's in Manhattan, or suburbs... I would love to hear about great teams - and negative ones too! I am a fairly new nurse with under one year OR experience - i would love to end up in a great organization. Thank you!!!
  8. Coincidence in regard to the earlier post... but I am trying to relocate from upstate and am attempting to find the best hospitals in Long Island - and I would like to move right near the ocean... Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I know close to nothing about that region. all the best!
  9. Hello and Happy New Year - I was wondering if anyone is aware of any upcoming job fairs in NYC? Thank you!
  10. There are no hospitals in the very small city of Cohoes. Nearby facilities are as follows; Samaritan and St. Mary's are in Troy. Ellis in Schenectady. Albany Medical Center, Albany Memorial & St.Peters' in Albany. Good luck.
  11. Hi. No, I still haven't heard. I did send a note to the nursing recruiter and one of the nurse managers - as well as an email - still nothing. The open house was helpful, if not a bit disorganized. I think a more "aggressive" approach would have been more helpful - there were about 100 people there trying to get work.... Good luck!!
  12. I was wondering if anyone went to the NYP Cornell open house back in April - and attempted to get a job thereafter. If so, have you heard back?? I submitted an application , etc.... - and am still waiting. I was wondering if anyone had another experience. Thanks!
  13. Hi everyone - i am looking for a little advice... I have two job offers; one is ER in small community hospital - they have a good orientation, all the training, etc... but it is not the local trauma center. My other offer is in the larger, teaching hospital, which has the regional trauma center (won't hire new grads...). The position here is on a well respected neuroscience unit that includes an 8 bed step-down unit. I guess my question is if this neuro experience might look good for getting into a trauma Er down the road... I feel very confused. Thank you for any insight!
