Hello everyone.. im wondering if anyone can tell me about NWH.. and there experiences. ALSO what the starting salary is for new grads.. is it union? Thanks so much!

I believe a good nurse needs to be KNOWLEDGABLE and CARING. And hell.. if you dont have both then, knowledgable.. but, we went into this profession for a reason right!? Obviously we care. :)

Im actually in the day full time program and in my last semester, ill be graduating in MAY. This school is wonderful. They teachers are great, and are there for you every step of the way. They prepare you fully for the NCLEX. Our pass rate is 99% for the boards. I've had nothing but a wonderful experience here. Be ready to be challenged, but you will learn so much within the next 2 years. Time flys.. good luck!

I work at lahey clinic in burlington ma and the nurses start at 26.50 an hour and have full benefits and the hospital is not union. Evening shift its an additional 3 dollars and hours and night shift they just moved up from 5 to an additional 6 dollars an hour. It's a pretty good salary for a new grad, and they have a 10,000 sign on bonus if u stay for 4 yrs. I think it all depends on the hospital. But boston hospitals do pay more but take into consideration the commute into the city, or even the living expenses to live in a city. Its alot cheaper to live in NH. I know a nurse they works in NH and get paid alot less than what she did working at lahey- so she still works with us per-diem.

Also, there are a few girls that had like a 45-50 min commute and they managed. You have to be on the floor for clinical at 7am, so your leaving ur house prob pretty early. The night before when u do research u prob wont get back till late cause ur in class till about 12 noon then you have to wai tfor htem to post the assignment at the hospital.. so u go there, and pick up ur patient. come home.. do research. then go to bed just to wake up early tomorrow morning and be on the floor. Just a little overview of what your days are like. But they manage and are doing well.

I did the day program. The clinicals the first quarter are usually at lawrence memorial hospital or melrose wakefield. We have been to tufts melrose wak. lahey lawrence memorial mt auburn beverly hospital winchester hospital, ect. All pretty much within the area. If you're doing full time your schedule will be pretty busy with class time and clinical. Mon- thursday. usually 4-5 hr classes then u do research at the hospital the night before clinical to pick up a patient. You definately stay busy but there are alot of mothers in our program that have 3-6 kids and some how they manage. Hello all.. so im very excited to announce i will graduate in May. (hopefully) I've come this far and im not stopping now!! For anyone interested in nursing in the MA area i highly reccommend Lawrence Memorial Regis college of nursing. Its collaborated with regis college 4 yr program. But lmrc is a two year program and right on medford campus next to lawrence memorial hospital. We just got an award for the first school in new england for nursing excellence and the pass rate for the boards is 99%. I highly reccomend this school to anyone. All of the instructors are supportive, and know your name.. your not just a number. Everyone is focused on you suceeding and will go out of the way to help anyone out in need. It's hardwork but definately worth it in the end. :redbeathe

Hello everyoneeee.. so my head is not with it tonight i think im over thinking the whole nursing diagnosis thing.. ive done so many care plans now im not sure why im stuck in a rut. My patient came in for umbilical hernia repair and now has a binder on post op. but he also has a pmh of acites, alcohol cirrhosis, smoking 2 packs a day. drinking 3-4 drinks e/o day. He suffered from some post op complications and had to go back to the OR, they had take out 2ml of ascitis from his stomach. He was on a liquid diet yesturday and is now onto food. He also has colace orders, so was thinking increased risk for constipation? I havent met this patient yet ,and my instructor wants me to come up with 3 diagnosis and try to make a care plan... any good nursing diagnosis for me besides increased risk for infection?????? I was trying to figure out if i could do PC: deficient fluid volume or would it be excess fluid volume? hm confused.. Hope someone can help! Thanks guys. :redbeathe

I will have to agree, this posting is very positive, and not all of this forum is positive at times,and can be discouraging.. although i do think its a great place where nurses can vent and talk to eachother about everyday issues in the work environment!! I am graduating next year and i have been on this forum for quite sometime now, but ive also been a nursing assistant for 2 yrs, so i know what im getting myself into, and I love taking care of people although it may be stressful at times, nursing is a rewarding and meaningful job.. we are the epitomy of health care!! The thankyous and the smiles will never get old to me- i love interacting with my patients and meeting new people!

Hello all, the reason why i posted was to say that i had a wonderful experience in the OR as a student nurse from lmrc. I actually referred a nurse whom i was shadowing about this website, and she told her other friends about it also! They think its great. Anyways, i am amazed at the teamwork and compassion your facility has..it seems like you really love your jobs and you really do welcome students and new grads. into the OR and thats what we need, new grads and students being welcomed and supported!! In order to work as a team and have a good working environment everybody should respect one another, and i believe thats what your facility has! I just applied online for an OR per-diem position as a CA to your facility, I LOVED the experience and just wanted to thank you all! :nuke:

Hello all, i have clinical tomorrow and have not seen my patient but have researched alllllllll about her. I have to present a teaching plan tomorrow to my teacher then revise it after but im unsure of what to teach her that will be meaningful since i have not met her yet..... She is a 55yr old female- morbidly obese, that came in with chest pain radiating to her left arm.. shes been in for chest pain numerous times and had an MI AND DVT in left arm in 2004. She has a PMH of bipolar disorder, depression ( on many meds for it), mental status change due to letimal abuse, and COPD. I was thinking i could teach her about eating healthy but i wasnt sure if any of you guys had any other different ideas, i dont want her to take it offensively as me callin her "fat"... she also gets a duoneb treatment every four hours, which helps open up the lungs but i wasnt quite sure if they gave her an incentive spirometer.. if she doesnt have it, i prob cant teach her how to do it? ALL INPUT and ideas would be greatly appreciated..... thanks alot!:nuke:

:w00t:Hey everyone, sorry im in a little trouble. Im at the library right now and i forgot my nursing diagnosis books from class, and im trying to find out some good websites to help me out. I have a 93 yr old female that came in yesturday with a mental status change due to the uti, and fever. She is alert but not oriented and at times she is veryy confused. Her past PMH is dementia, macular degneration with legal blindness, joiunt disease and depression. Not too much, they are just going by her records since she does not have any family in the area. Any ideas about what kind of diagnosis i could come up with... 1. being the first priority, OR any helpful websites for nursing diagnosis? Thank you all!!

dont no too much yet, because i havent actually met my patient,, just introduced myself and did a quick asessment. i was just looking for good topics for the diagnosis.. but she has a h/o hypertension and is treated with medication...blister on leg covered with tegaderm... maybe tomorrow ill have more info, iguess im "jumping the gun here"..

So my clinical coordinator on the floor said my pt had small bowel obstruction as their primary diagnosis, but then i looked through the my pts chart it said "ventral hernia small bowel obstruction". To explain the diagnosis i had to browse through LIPINCOTT's manuel or my medsurg book but...they are both under intestinal obstruction.... is that the same thing or am i going to have to combine definitions? little confused........ please help

Hello all nurses.. im 20 yrs old, currently working at lahey clinic on a busy cardiac floor as a nursing assistant.. im in regis college adn program as we speak...my nurse manager saidf shed offer me a job on the floor as a nurse when im done with school, but i was always interested working in the city like mass general.. i understand they dont accept adn anymore but would it higher my chances of getting a job because ive beena nursing assistant with 2 yrs experience on the floor? Just curious........let me know!

I do work part time 20 hours.. im not exactly sure if u consider me going to school full time because i dont have classes on mondays and tuesdays but wed. thurs. friday i do..... im done with all of my general education classes, all i have is clinicals and tests pretty much. I admire you all for working that much, taking care of your childrren and going to school, i dont know how you did it..... it amazes me,, you all are angels! Hello everyone! I have posted many times on this webisite for advice on nursing as a career and you all have been veryyy helpful. I second guessed this career a couple of times but now i am truly certain i want to become a nurse! Im 20 yrs old now.. and ive been working at Lahey Clinic on 5west -a very busy cardiac telemetry floor as a nursing assistant on the evening shift. 36 beds, i take care of 18 pts a night. It has almost been a yr now since working on the floor, and it helped me truly realize that this is what i want to do..... yes it is stressful at times, and in fact almost all the time, but for some reason i absolutely enjoy it.. and at the end of the the long day.. i go home at night feeling accomplished, and that is TRULY a wonderful feeling. Im at lawrence memorial /regis college now... im on my first clinical rotation.. nu101 which im very excited about! Being a nursing assistant has truly helped me through this clinical rotation.... Id have to say i was working 24 hours at lahey but i did cut down to 20..... im still nervous as to wonder .. how much work is too much? Im seeking advice from you nurses as to what you went through and how much hours u worked during nursing school.. is it do-able?? Thank you all..

Im in the day program. I just got hired at lahey for part time evening.. so thats every other weekend and 2 days a week. Im kind of nervous as to whether ill be able to have a part time job and still go to school. I have done all of my pre-reqs, so im basically just doing my clinicals in the fall, ill graduate in 2 yrs!! Thanks so much for the help, any advice about the whole part time, work thing?? hi melgrek, you have to get on their case about the jobs you applied for. You should go in there and apply yourself because the book that they have at the human resource department is updated with all of the new job posts, keep checking online also.. they change everyday. Wait a week or so after applying, and then ask about the job post you applied for when u call human resources. Theyll usually transfer you to 2 people that are hire the cna's. Anne calcaterra and Diane Charlton are the two who set up interviews with the nurse managers on diff floors. Hope this helps!!
