Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
I have wanted to be a nurse since I can remember. I love helping people and really enjoy being around people. I got my GED at age 28 and went to a technical shool at age 30 and became a LPN. Against great odds I made it through nursing school. We had 2 small children and my husband at the time got busted for growing pot in the back yard. (I did not smoke pot, but knew about the plants) I was sure that I was going to have to quit nursing school and my dreams of becoming a nurse were crushed. Counsilors at the tech school helped me get food stamps and found some churches to pay the bills. Along while in nursing school my husband at the time did not want me going to school, he gave me heck about it. I graduated in 1991 and 15 years later I am back in school to obtain my RN,BSN. Now with a husband who is totally supportive of me and my career choice. What a differance!!! I LOVE my job, have been at the same hospital for 15 years and they are working with my school schedule to keep me on part time. (my school schedule changes from semester to semester) May all your dreams come true!!!:gandalf: Life is magic!!!

Job satisfaction
I truely love my job. 15 years on a med surg floor as an LPN. I am blessed to be able to help patients and their family members through a tought time in their life. I love getting to know my patient's, everyone has their own unique incredible story. The staff that I work with is for the most part very professional and the docs are incredible. There has not been one day in my career that I did not look forward to going to work. Hope it continues!!!!

Name that part. Words patients use for their own anatomy.
Early in my career I took care of a lady who told me she needed help to "booboo". I had this blank stare on my face for what seemed several minutes. Finally she got really upset with me and yelled, "I have to sh.......t!!!" So I helped her to the bathroom!!

School loans and debt, how much are you in the hole?
GM, I have 16,000 dollars so far and just finishing up my AA degree at a community college. I start a BSN program this fall at a FSU which will probably be about another 16,000 and I am 45 years old, so I figure I'll being paying on my student loan until I retire!!!! It really has been worth every penny though, I have been an LPN for 15 years and I am learning soooo much. Very greatful to be able to continue my education!!
