Polk Community College
Doggone it, you beat me to it!! I've been looking for those statistics for a few days now and just found it a minute ago. PCC is #4 in FL. HCC is third from the lowest...the other two are 64.5% and 50%! :imbar even so, 73.5% is not good. I think you're referring to the Partnership for Success program. I hope I qualify, even though I'll still have to take out a Stafford loan to cover what they won't pay for, uniforms, supplies, pda, etc... :angryfire

Polk Community College
I have applied for admission in the spring semester. One of my friends is a nurse who graduated a year or so ago, and she told me that it took a while for her to get her letter. However, that was three years ago. Maybe they've streamlined their process (I hope). I'm dying to know if I got in! I happen to be acquainted with one of the nursing instructors, and the last time I saw her, I mentioned that I had submitted my application. The very first question she asked was, "How many of the pre-requisites have you completed?" I've finished all but Microbiology, which I'm taking this semester. She said that was very good, since the first thing they consider is number of pre-requisites completed. And then they consider GPA. She was also telling me that someone else she knew had applied for the spring semester, but did not have as many pre-reqs completed and that she didn't think they were going to get in based on that. I don't know about anyone else here, but I am very excited to be going to this program. I've heard from many people that PCC's nursing program is one of the best in the state. I've also heard that local hospitals are more inclined to hire a nurse from PCC than from HCC, but I don't know if that's really true. No offense to anyone attending HCC, though! Just a rumor I've heard.

Area around Arnold Palmer? Need help!!!! PLEASE!
I live in between Orlando and Tampa, and I can tell you that you would be hard pressed to find a decent sized apartment for less than $575/mo. I have a 1 br. apt where I live, and it's $665 a month. But it is huge, almost 900 sq. feet and in a more upscale area. Usually, when the apartments start going down in price below 550-600, it's not in the greatest area. If you go to http://www.rent.net and type in the zipcode for Arnold Palmer (it's 32806), it will do a search of properties in the area. I looked up a couple that looked pretty nice. I also have a relative that lives in the Buena Vista/Disney area that has a great little apartment in a nice area. They are called Parc Vue. I don't go to Orlando too much so I don't know if that's close to APH or not. Also, have you considered buying a house with a government loan? I think it's also called a HUD loan. You would have to check into all the eligiblity requirements and whatnot, but my husband's cousin built a 3 bedroom house in a great little community and his payments were around $600 per month. It's a great program if you qualify. It's just a thought, but to me, it would be so much better to pay towards something you will own instead of throwing your money away on rent...I would do it myself if I were able to! Hope this information helps.

How is code blue announced at your facility?
I am not a nurse yet (I will be starting my nursing prerequisites in Jan.), but I do work at a hospital. We don't use colors here, we use numbers. A code blue is "Stat Code 99" and the floor. We don't announce the room number either, I guess thinking along the lines of not wanting to alarm pts. I know this is unrelated to codes, but I have to say that I usually am not interested in any kind of discussion boards, but this one is great! It really helps me get a good idea of what being a nurse would be like, good and bad. It's really strengthened my desire to become a nurse!
