A&P II Club! Come on in!
We actually had a fun lab last night where we used stethoscopes to record heart rate and got to take each other's blood pressures--very fun--we also recorded change in blood pressure after exercise and while the victim was holding his/her hand in 5 degree water--though no one in the class lasted for the prescribed 3 minutes....it reallly hurt! I had my first test and got an 86 which I was very happy with since I didn't study in my normal thorough way given my crazy life right now. I'll have to do better on the next three....

Starvation: A good thing when concerning the Obese.
I'm not going to weigh in on whether fasting is or is not a good way to lose weight... But I'm curious, do you think you would be able to fast for that length of time? I had to fast for two days for a bowel prep and I thought my stomach was going to eat my pancreas....If you haven't tested it, you might want to try going a day or two without food to see how well you can function. You may learn that fasting is not for you. IMO, Slimfast works pretty well and is not all that different from fasting :monkeydance:

A&P II Club! Come on in!
I had my heart lab last night---we had pictures of a sheep heart in our books but were given pig hearts to dissect...and our lab instructor talks about his mother in a thick accent and doesn't focus too much on helping us... This semester I have a lot of personal stuff going on and have been sick for what's going on 2 weeks now so I'm regretting taking A&P II online--I'm just having great difficulty with self directed studying... Wish me luck--I have to take my first test tomorrow night (it's multiple choice/true false taken in the library) on the endocrine system, blood, heart and circulatory system...and I can't even keep all the hormones straight [banana] Good luck to all the other test takers!!!!!! [/banana]

What would you do?
Not really. I did call my insurance company and they too wouldn't give me his license number but assured me that if he is in their network that he is a licensed MD. I did get the form to file a complaint with the state and will be mailing it in soon. I keep checking the state database and he still isn't there....

Volunteers?
I am a volunteer at a NICU and have worked there a little over a month. My hospital isn't extremely organized (serious problems w/ the volunteer coordinator) but I agressively pursued the position. Just the standard volunteer background check was done and a TB test. Since they weren't expecting me on my first day (volunteer coordinator commmunication issues), I spent the first hour or so learning the phones. Then I was trained individually on how to take care of babies in the progressive unit (I don't deal with acute babies). I learned about infection control and changing the diapers, feeding, and relinquishing babies to mothers only after verifying matching bracelet numbers. I'm still getting the hang of it but I suppose it will become easier over time. The NICU where I volunteer hasn't had many volunteers and I get the impression that the few they have just come for feeding times but I come for longer periods and want to stay busy. So I take babies downstairs to their cars when they are released, I run labs, I answer phones/unlock doors, and I replenish supplies. I still feel underutilized but hopefully more nurses will take advantage of me being there as they get to know me. I have no set schedule--I come and go as I please though I have decided to go in every Sunday. I don't have a supervisor in the NICU so I walk around approaching people for things to do. This is my first hospital experience and I really love working there. As patients, the NICU babies are a great bunch!

What would you do?
Ironically, when I went into the examining room, a prescription pad was sitting on the counter and I was left alone in there for 10-15 minutes--I thought about warning the doctor about this but forgot to when he came in and we started talking about my problem...

What would you do?
I did not identify myself when I called. Unfortunately, the state only investigates written complaints but I can also do that anonymously.

What would you do?
I just called his office and asked for his license number. The woman who answered told me that they are not allowed to give out that information... She didn't seem that concerned when I told her that I wasn't able to find him on the state website...and I confimed his name and spelling with her... I'm definitely going to file a complaint.

A&P II Club! Come on in!
We had the LAMEST blood lab last night. Though the lab manual had us drawing our own blood and viewing it via oil immersion, using the machine to determine hemocrit, ect. all we did was look at a pre-prepared slide of a blood smear and we drew pictures of the diff types of WBC.... Apparently my school is afraid of liability of any kind--I just yearn for the olden days when I typed my blood in HS biology (some time ago....) Does anyone else's school really fail to provide meaningful lab experiences????

What would you do?
I have to submit the complaint in writing and they are mailing me the forms---I was just hesitant to do so thinking it was probably some sort of administrative oversight. But then again, this should be one item that gets taken care of without exception. There was no other MD listed with his last name in the entire statee so it's definitely not a case of mistaken identity...

What would you do?
Thanks for replying--nothing seemed off with him--I liked him and would go back though I don't have any reason to at this point. It's just a habit of mine to look up health practitioners to see where they went to school, how many years of experience, etc. I usually do it before I see them but was a little late this time...

What would you do?
I saw a doctor today. I just looked him up on my state's licensing portal and he was not listed...to make sure, I called the state and found out he definitely does not have a license to practice in my state. My question is: what should I do? Should I file a complaint against him for practicing medicine w/out a license or should I call his office and notify them of the problem? Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts.

A&P II Club! Come on in!
Hi, I'm in too! I'm taking A&P II online (as I did A&P I). Started lab last week. We're starting w/ the endocrine system...it's a tricky chapter!
