Yep, as far as I understand it, if the school is approved by the BON students can take the NCLEX. I am not certain if ACC is nationally accredited or not, so sorry if my previous comment was misleading.

Hi David, True, this list shows the "approved" Colorado programs for nursing. It doesn't, however, indicate their accreditation status. I attend DSON and it is not accredited, although they are in the process and making good progress towards their national recognition. ACC is not accredited, as well as some other popular community colleges here in Colorado.....you just hear more about our school because it is a newer program and offers a BSN. Just wanted to offer the clarification! Students at DSON always get this question about accreditation, so we have become really good at answering it!

I found out a week after I applied. I talked with some other people today and it varied from 1 day up to a month......I am not sure why there was such a variance, maybe it had to do with the fact that all pre-req's were/were not complete? I have heard that the wait list is a little longer now, so perhaps that has changed a bit.

No problem! I love to share any info, as I used this website a ton when I was researching schools too. Any little bit helps. Yes, there is a light rail and many of us use it and the bus. Market Street Station is two blocks from the school, and Union Station about the same. Easy distance to the school from any one of those areas. I applied at CU as well. I had a solid GPA from my previous BA(3.4) (first time around in college and I wasn't nearly as focused as I am now!),good GPA from my pre-req's (3.8), experience in health care and I did not get in.....I was discouraged, but it is a tough school to get in to, lots of applicants, etc.....after hearing about the wait lists at the community colleges I was getting really bummed, so I am glad I found DSON. I hear Regis and UNC are great schools, so those may be options for you as well. For me, I didn't want to have to wait for the applications deadlines only to find out months and months later that I didn't get in! With DSON I started alot sooner. I hope that helps!

Ok, parking. There is a parking lot across the street, but it varies from between $5-7 a day. You can find parking much cheaper a few streets down for around $1-1.50 a day. My advice, before you start classes take an hour or so and scout out the parking situation around the school just to get a good idea as to where you want to park, how far you want to walk, etc. Books are expensive. The school is pretty good about getting a book list out before the quarter starts so you can hunt around for good deals. I use Amazon or Half.com to find mine used and it has worked out well for me. I spend between $200-275 on books, give or take. It depends on the quarter and what classes you are taking. I read all of my textbooks.....some students never take the plastic wrap off.....my advice, get the books and read them. The school is still in the accreditation process. We had a meeting on it a few weeks ago and it sounded really positive. We have a few instructors who have been involved with accrediting boards and they feel good about the direction we are going. Our NCLEX scores are good (I think the last I heard it was 94% for the BSN class, around there),the building and lab are going through renovations, all in all it seems to be on the right track. It will still take awhile....maybe a year or more, so keep that in mind. Also, if the school becomes accredited AFTER you graduate, your transcripts will STILL reflect that you are coming from an accredited school thereafter. The school is very open and honest about the process, they are not trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes, and they are working hard to make it happen. Hey, its good for them too....they want to be accredited as much as we want them to be. I hope that answers some questions....let me know if you have any more. :wink2:
