"The Calm Before The Storm" Laying Nurses Off To Prepare For A Pandemic Surge
I live in metro Atlanta and our hospital has implemented a "re-deployment initiative" to pull nurses to the Covid units. Right now it's mostly nurses from OR, PACU, and outpatient side but it could expand. I have friend who works in mgmt at a Dr's office who has been "drafted" to the med-surg floor. I work in Psych and there has been whispers of us having to get floated as well. Needless to say nurses are panicking as most of them have no other experience outside of psych. I have M/S and tele experience but I haven't worked the floor in over 5 years and don't like the idea of possibly being forced back into it

Sunrise Detox Center
Hello all! Has anyone ever worked for Sunrise Detox Center? They are opening a location here in GA and I was hoping someone could tell me a little about the working environment. I do know that they are a very high end facility and cater to athletes, celebrities, and other VIP's. They require a video interview, which I'm not to thrilled about. If anyone has any insight or experience with this company, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Admission Evaluations and the DSM
Thank you guys for the input. The process at this facility is just so different from what I'm accustomed to. And I just have some reservations about there only being one nurse on the unit, when the eval nurse is in the ED doing assessments. I just don't think that is safe at all. Thank you guys again!

Admission Evaluations and the DSM
Question for all of you seasoned psych nurses. I recently started a position on an adult unit and at this facility nurses are to perform evaluations on ED patients who are on a psych hold. For Example, if someone comes into the ED voicing or displaying any psychiatric s/s, the Dr will order a PET(psych eval). One of the nurses form the unit will come to the ER and ask the pt and series of questions to determine if they warrant inpatient admission, outpatient tx, or d/c home. The eval form is 9 pages long and also includes a section where the nurse has to fill in each axis of the DSM-IV. I was of the understanding that only a physcian or ANP could complete the DSM. Now let me say that I don't have a lot of psych experience, I've done a year of geri-psych in MO and I currently live in GA. Where I came from nurses didn't do these type of evaluations of patients. We had intake coordinators and/or doctors to perform the initial assessments on our ED patients. My preceptor let it slip that this is normally 6 months of training to do PETS, but I only have 3 days to get it. I just feel uncomfortable with this process, having the responsibility to determine pts fate makes me nervous. Do any of you all perform these type of evaluations in your facilities? Thank you in advance for the advice.

Orientation for new grad Psych Nurse Practitioners
I don't have an answer to your question, I was curious as to what school you got your Masters from. I'm thinking of going back for my NP and am interested in a reputable program. Thank you

ANY Case Managers at United Health?
Actually I just got a call this afternoon(yes on a Sunday!), I called the recruiter back, but he wasn't in his office..Still haven't completely made up my mind. On one hand, I would love to gain the knowledge and experience and take it somewhere else after a year or two, but I don't want to go from bad to worse. DECISIONS!!

WellStar employees
TBird It may be a blessing that you haven't heard from them. Seriously, sometimes we think we want something so bad, then when we finally get it, it's not at all what we expected. When I got hired here, I thought it wold be my dream job, now I'm trying my best to get out of here. Trust me when I tell you you are not missing anything!

ANY Case Managers at United Health?
They haven't made an offer yet. I would love to come of 12hr night shifts, but I don't want to go from bad to worse either. I think I'll just hold out for something better. I'm trying to decrease my stress not make it worse..

ANY Case Managers at United Health?
Just wanted to give you guys an update, i went ahead and went on the interview for the CM position today. I have to say it was the longest interview I've ever had..nearly 2 hrs. First I met with 2 of the hiring managers and they started off asking the standard interview questions, then they asked me some behavioral/scenario type questions from a pre-printed form. After that was done they told to me to wait a few minutes while they go discuss if they wanted to proceed any further. So after a few min, one of them came back to tell me they would like to proceed and have me meet with ANOTHER manager. Another 10 or 15 min goes by and the phone in the conference room starts to ring. After 2 missed calls, the receptionist comes in to tell me that I'm supposed to answer it and explains that I would be given a scenario and to pretend as if I were on a live call. Anyway..after that was done, I finally met withthe 3rd manager who pretty much repeated the first 2. They talked a lot about meeting "metrics", that your calls rated according to your quality, number of enrollments and the accuracy of your documentation. They said that your work is not commissioned based, but they do have "incentives" Sorry to be so long-winded. but I just wanted to give anyone else who was considering UHC an idea of what to expect if they should go for an interview

ANY Case Managers at United Health?
For those of you that are working there or have recently left, do you mind sharing what state you're in? I am considering a postion with UHC, but the reviews I've been reading on this board as well as others give me pause...are any of you in Georgia?

Nurses wear navy blue and/or white scrubs, techs light blue, resp is black, lab is burgundy...what unit are you working on?

Opinions on Wellpoint as employer
Please let us know the job works out for you. I'm considering telephonic nursing as well. I recently took a position on a post-op observation floor..it hasn't even been a week and I'm already ready to jump ship.

Walden University MSN Nursing Informatics
Hi there! I actually ended up switching to a different program, not because I was having any problems, I just realized informatics wasn't my passion. But the program is not that bad. It is time consuming, weekly writing and discussion assignments, but if you manage your time well it's manageable. You'll have a reading assignment, then have to make your first disscussion post usually by Weds. Then you have to respond to at least 2-3 other classmates by Sat. Then there is a paper due every Sun, usually 2-3 pages. Keep in mind both the paper and the discussion papers have to be substantial written in APA format, not something you can just throw together. I found the discussions and reading topics very interesting and thought provoking. It does take up a lot of time and it can be a pain, but if I can do it anyone can. Good luck in whatever you decide!

Applied for tons of jobs but no call backs (Georgia)
Thank you for the encouragement! I am so glad everything worked out for you. I'm surprised the pay is so low there. I live in the Midwest too (St. Louis) and I am in that same pay range, I was hoping for a decent pay increase once I moved. I was just there last week researching neighborhoods and it seemed like there was a hospital on every corner..you wouldn't think it would be that hard to land a job especially with experience. Oh well, it will all work out in the end. Congrats again on your new job:cheers:

Applied for tons of jobs but no call backs (Georgia)
Congrats on your new job. I am planning to relocate to GA in the next couple of months. I always see tons of openings at all the hospitals..now I may have to reconsider if it's that hard to find a job there. Aside from that, how are you enjoying GA?

Employment Verification for Licensure b Endorsement
I was finally able to get someone to fill out the form. I don't see why they just can't go online or call the Work Number to verify your employment. The GBON needs to realize this is 2012 and most everything is automated or online. Is there someone from one of your old jobs that you keep in touch with who could possibly fill it out for you? I hope everything works out..keep me posted.

Employment Verification for Licensure b Endorsement
Thank you so much for your reply. I actually have been talking to my HR dept at work and they have been giving me the runaround. I've given them the form twice and it just seems to keep magically disappearing. This is going into the third week and I'm starting to get frustrated. I'm gonna give them another day or so and talk to them again. Wish me luck! Thanks again for your help!
