New Law for nurse without Immigration???
is this is the end for the nurse immigration to the u.s?\ suzzane what do you think will happen in the near future? durbin introduces legislation to ease nationwide nursing shortage wednesday, september 19, 2007 [washington, dc] – u.s. senator dick durbin [d-il] introduced legislation late last night to address our nation’s nursing shortage. the nurse training and retention act of 2007 (s.2064) would help create a pipeline to nursing for incumbent ancillary healthcare workers who wish to advance their careers and for current nurses who wish to receive specialty training and advanced degrees to become nurse faculty. “everyone depends on nurses for quality patient care, yet the healthcare system in america lacks an adequate supply of nurses,” said durbin. “by 2020, the shortage could exceed one million. we have the opportunity to stop this trend and start equipping our hospitals with the nursing workforce needed to provide exceptional care. today’s legislation proposes a new, innovative program to address this critical need and build on the untapped resource of the current healthcare workforce.” today’s legislation would ensure an adequate supply of nurses and promote high-quality patient care by awarding department of labor grants to programs that offer opportunities for a career ladder for current healthcare workers and nurses to receive specialty training and higher education. “patients will receive better quality of care when we invest in training the next generation of nurses to fill the nursing shortage." said cathy glasson, rn, president of nurse alliance of seiu, “this legislation puts incumbent healthcare workers on track to become nurses—and no one is better prepared to become nurses than those already working in healthcare.” durbin noted that the need for nurses is growing, but our ability to train more nurses is not keeping up. in illinois, the number of qualified applicants being denied admission to nursing schools is growing. from 2002 through 2003, there were 502 qualified students rejected from illinois nursing schools. last year, there were 1,900 students turned away because of lack of faculty and resources. and yet, in spite of the increasing number of eligible nursing school applicants, illinois could be facing a shortage of over 21,000 nurses by 2020 because of a lack of nursing faculty. additionally, healthcare organizations see several advantages in training healthcare workers to become nurses because they require less time in orientation than new workers and represent a diverse population more representative of the patients being served. nurses who advance from other healthcare positions are generally better prepared to meet the demands of the bedside, are more aware of the work environment and ready to meet its unique challenges. senator durbin has continually offered legislation to address the nationwide nursing shortage. most recently, he led a bi-partisan effort to adopt a six-year pilot program aimed at encouraging nurses leaving the military to become nurse educators. the troops to nurse teachers program was included in the senate 2008 department of defense authorization bill. along with congresswoman nita lowey (d-ny), durbin introduced the nurse education, expansion, and development (need) on january 31, 2007 to address one of the major causes – an insufficient number of nurse educators – by providing grants to colleges to improve their ability to educate nursing students. ppease edit thread to include only a couple of sentences and the link to the article. this has been posted someplace else, so is under the us copyright law.

CIR is finished
Thank you Suzanne for everything you are doing!! I think we all know how much time you are spending in this forum in order to help us and your effort are very very very much appreciated!!!!! from all the forums on the internet you have been always the most trusted one, always telling the truth either good or bad. in the past you mentioned you have trusted lawyers who advise you, you mentioned that they think that somkething for nurses should be availble by summer, I guess they thought the CIR will pass and will include the Nurses... Well I think the CIR was a big Surprise to us all, it seems in this bill that the Democrats are against Nurse Immigration and our only supporters are the Republicans who are now defeted and in Minority, What do you think about the future of nurse immigration to the U.S, will we have a support to be included in a seperate category than other Employment Based 3 category? Second question regarding the upcoming retrogression that will probably will happend in the next month or so..., while the Visa Bullitin clearly states the visa numbers will be severly retrogress, I do remember a large forward movment in EB3 cutoff dates for "rest of the world" category before the July visa bulliten that made all section Current in order not to waste Visa numbers this Year, My question is, do you think that severe retrogression of numbers mean that "rest of world" category will retrogress further then the June Visa Bullitin? I know that there are no clear answers, Just wanted to hear your oppinion... Thanks again for everything!

retrogression in this october again???
Suzzane, Since when the EB visa are based on a "first come first serve" basis (as in H1-B) we all have priority dates and if the EB-3 cattegory is Current right now it means that they need to assign visa numbers to cases who are in line. I thought this is how it is working, I do not understand how people can get in line and what will be couried to them on the 2nd of July. If it is on a first come first serve basis please inform us, and mabe we will be able to submit what is needed to be submited also on their doorsteps, what do you mean?

USA legistlation process question - Especially for Suzzane...
Hello, while the US senate is currently debating the New CIR I have a question regarding the whole legistlative process in the US, as the fact that it has two houses of representatives makes it quite different from my country. I read on the Internet the porpose of the two houses, and I understood the process of each one making his own law and then a conference is formed... BUT, are the Senate and the House really separated, I mean: is it possible that the current debate in the Senate is not in collaberation with the house and it is very possible that the House is completely against a law that the Senate spend a lot of time making? I know what happened last year with the CIR so I know that the answer for my question is Yes, but is it possible that they are going to do the same thing all over again? The second question is regarding the conference... what happenes if the Senate passes the law that they are debating on right now and the House passes the STRIVE Act? what happens then at the conference (regarding for example the Merit-based system, which the strive act dont include) Thanks, It is not a critisism on the system, I just want to understand the idea of the legistlative process and to know if the senators at this stage are even considering their moves with collaboration with house representatives...

Immigration News and Updates
hi suzanne it has been a month or so since we last heard about your assessment that visas will be available by the summer, do you think with the develpment of the last month that this assumption is still correct? You mentioned that you are in contact with several immigration lawyers that you trust, do they still think like that. I have to tell you my feeling, while I am trying to keep optimistic every day that passes I think nothing will happen. as you probably know, the only place other then this forum that we get information from is HLG blog, well they are always optimistic and suddenly that does not encorage me, I've read thier blog from start to end and they have been optimistic for a year now... and still nothing happend. I think you have ever been true to the reality and not for false hopes. you are the only one I trust, Thank you for that and for all the time you are puting in the forum. So, what do you think? has something change? Thanks alot
