San Jacinto College - Applicants
The ADN (Central) Generic Program takes 2 years with out prereqs. It is a Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall and then another Spring (OR switch the fall and spring depending on when you start). I have no say in what classes I take. There is a progression of classes. You start with Foundations, then med Surg, then Complex Med Surg and then Advanced Med Surg. Like I have said before, I am in the night program (only opens up every two years) and I have only 1 teacher. The days program has MANY teachers to choose from, but you follow the order of classes. There is an outline in the catalog. You can take all the NON RNSG classes before hand. I did that and it has made it easier. YOU STUDY ALOT for RNSG classes so not having other classes to worry about is GREAT! I do not know ANYTHING about the LVN or transitions program so I can't help you there. I applied for the RN program and got in so I did not talk to anyone about other classes. I DO AGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS POST --> TALK TO YOUR COUNSELOR!!! GO to the CENTRAL CAMPUS and talk to someone there!!! I went to North and they MISLEAD me A LOT! If you have any other questions (anything) I am glad to help! I remember when I was applying and having A TON of questions and wishing I knew someone in the program to ask! I just finished up the semester and THANK GOD I passed ALL my classes! SO I have 3 weeks off before I start the summer clinicals! YEAH! 15 classes down -- 11 more to go!!!

For those fixing to have finals --> Take a deep breath and good luck! It is crazy when finals come around. I have a test on Monday and Wednesday (Med Surg and Pharm) and then the next week I have: Monday: Med Surg final; Tuesday: Clincal & HESI final; and Wednesday: Pharm final!!! THEN I AM OFF FOR 3 WEEKS before I start my third and LAST Med Surg! I am at my halfway point --- so if I made it this far then I know everyone else can!!!

Evening LVN-RN or RN programs in Houston
I am currently in an evening RN program at San Jacinto College Central (in Pasadena). Because of the lack of evening teachers, they only offer the evening program every 2 years. So the next time it will become available is in May of 2008 when I graduate. It is only open to 30 students and is based on "first come - first serve" basis. Once you get your acceptance package there would be a letter stating that they are offering it and that you must be 1 of the first 30 people to call and reserve a spot. That is the only one I know of, however I do not know ANYTHING about any other nursing programs - as I did not apply anywhere else. If you have any questions, let me know!

It has been a WHILE since I have posted. I am in my last week of my first semester!!!!!! I need to be studying RIGHT NOW - but it is time for a break. I am in the night program at San Jac (ADN) -- they only offer the night program every two years (this semester was the beginning of the two years). Out of the 30 people I am in class with ABOUT 27 of them WERE working at the beginning of the Fall semester. They had a HARD time trying to keep up with everything that you have to do. Most had to go to less than 20 hours a week at work and many had to completely quit their jobs. We had 3 drop out just in our class. I find it hard to doe everything they want you to do and I do not work at all. I quit when I found out that I was accepted into the program last summer. I do, however, have two kids and a husband that I NEVER see bc I am always doing homework or studying. This is the harderst thing I have ever done!!! You have to be dedicated and determined. If you are both of those, then you will have no problem - without or with a job.

Wharton County Junior College
I did not have any of that info until yesterday either - they gave it all to me at the orientation. With the exception of the uniforms - the letter telling us that we got accepted told us that we would have orientation and that we would have to buy uniforms and lab packs there. I spent a total of 370 dollars at orientation - that is not tuition or books or vaccine or anything except for uniforms, lab pack, and drug screenings! My middle intial is M, but Bridges is my married name not my maiden. My husbands family is all from Louisiana... Any of yours? Possible a (not so) distant relative.

Kishad65, Do they have an orientaion for you to attend? I was accepted into San Jac, we start on the 28th also, but we just spent two days of 8 hour long orientations. We got all the info in those 16 hours. They had students that had just graduated and students that are still in the program talk to us along with the head person there at the program.

New grad moving to Baytown
I second that!!! DO not work at Baytown Methodist. Had a very close coworker of my husband that was taken there. They told him that he was suffering from West Nile and shipped him downtown. When he got to downtown he was suffering from Diabetic Coma. The family went through so many emotions with the West Nile thing and then to be shipped somewhere else and be told that it was not even that. ON top of that -- My husband had hurt his knee getting out of his truck one morning. By the time I got home from work he couldnt move is knee and it had swollen up. Took him to that ER (they did MRI) and they told us that it was - just sprained. Gave him pain meds and crutches and sent him home. After three days of pain and still swollen, we went to hosp. downtown (took the MRI readings that we had from Baytown) and they looked at it and asked when he wanted his surgery bc he had a torn ligament. Not a good hospital!!!!!!! Look at hospitals downtown or Humble or even Pasadena...

Houston area nursing students -- ??????
Thanks everyone!!! I found another DR in LaPorte that would file everything with insurance, so I called my insurance and changed my PCP to them and I got everything for $15. I contacted a nursing student who is about to graduate from San Jac and she told me about the place. I wont find out anything about my schedule or what books or even what the uniform is going to look like until Aug. 2. I will get my class schedule then and fitted for the scrubs. We also are required to buy to "lab pack" from them that has the bp cuff, steth, scissors and other things in it. I am lucky enough to have a sister in law that has several NICE littman steths, so I will be taking one of hers to replace the cheap one in the lab pack. I did not know there was a fast track Hep B offered. I have to have that completed by the time my clinicals start in Oct. I amot sure when they start, but I wont get my last Hep. B shot until Oct. 3rd. SOOOO I am praying that they start later than that!!!!!!!

Houston area nursing students -- ??????
Just have a question for all you about to start or already in or already finsihed. I just my letter and I am required to have a lot of things done. I am trying to find a some cheaper places to get this stuff done than my doctors office. 1) A physical (My Dr. wants 100) 2) Hep. B Series (The cheapest I have found 95 per shot) 3) I am also required (not matter the results of TB Skin Test) to have a chest X-Ray (I am hoping my Dr. can write a refferal so I wont have to pay for this) 4) All my immunizations (I have no idea where I would find a record and I am 99% positive that they are not current... Going to the Harris Cnty. Health Center and they charge $20 for all) Any suggestions on where I can get any of this done cheaper, PLEASEEEE let me know. I am so excited to have made it into the program but the cost of everything is HIGH!!! All of that PLUS uniforms and lab packs and out of district tuition!!!
