Geri-Psych: Does it exist? (asked the naive new nurse)
I agree with you, the LTC where I work has really lousy management for these types of patients. The hospital does discontinue all the meds they used to control them, and they get extremely wild and unmanageable soon after being admitted, putting the other residents in jeopardy. We usually work short handed, and attempting to protect the other residents is extremely exhausting and almost impossible, and who gets the blame when a resident gets attacked, the poor overworked nurse. You make many calls to the doctors, with little help. The administration is no help at all,, they claim the state won't allow us to maintain control, or have enough staff to deal with this problem. Working there is an ongoing nightmare.

Facebook almost cost me my job
Why does everyone blame facebook for everything, it's a social media, using it is your choice, what you post is your choice, just as all nurses is. Use your good sense and there should be no problem. It's like saying all nurses caused me to burn dinner, or facebook caused me to be late for work.

NEW Hospice RN Case Manager Question!!
I always try to help the Hospice nurses that come to my facility, but my load is great, and we have to get our work done, we aren't allowed overtime, and it seems they show up at the worst possible times, and need help when I am in the middle of a situation I can't walk away from at that moment. Sometimes it seems that Hospice causes more time consuming work, than just taking care of the residents ourselves. However, I really do appreciate them, most of them try to help, and take some of the load .

Facebook almost cost me my job
I love Facebook, I use it to keep in touch with family, friends, and church friends, we try to keep encouraging thoughts, and info that anyone can know, never anything private, we have contacted long lost friends and family through facebook. So far there have been no problems.

Fibromyalgia
I know what you are going through, I've been living and working with FM for years. It took several years of Dr visits, testing, and trying many different meds before they finally diagnosed me with FM. I tried Lyrica, it helped a little, but I didn't like the side affects. I am very sensitive to meds, so I had to stop taking all of them. I found a herbal supplement that helps me, called Zyflammend. You have to take it for well over a month usually before you notice an effect. My doctor approves of it, so if you should try it, run it by your Doc first. Eat an anti inflamatory diet also.

My God, these family members!!
Almost sounds like you work where I do, they tell us to document, document, etc, but when you finish your work, and try desperately to get your charting done, the families (and other staff) see you " just sitting there doing nothing", and keep interupting. I try to be as kind and patient as I can, and explain that I need to get my charting done, and they complain that we spend too much time doing paperwork. You go into overtime to get done, and the next shift thinks as long as you are still there, you should deal with whatever happens, and then you get written up for doing overtime. Also some people sit there and gossip, and talk loud, so that you can't even think.

Leaving the Profession!
I may be behind you real soon. I love my patients, and they love me, but some of the families are absolutely rediculous and unrealistic, and I am finding the verbal abuse a little difficult to smile through anymore. I get tired of taking the blame for doctors, and understaffing.
