I just took the NCLEX and it cut me off at 75. I really hope I passed. does anyone know if it is more common to fail in 75???

well, I was just wondering since it is in a required declaratory order for the BNE application/licensure. I am not trying to rub anyone the wrong way.

wow, I had no idea. It was one of the prescreening parts of the ADN program. There is also a spot in the BNE website for renewal purposes that says: "...other renewal questions asks "In the past 5 years, have you been diagnosed with or treated or hospitalized for schizophrenia or other psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, paranoid personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, or borderline personality disorder?" I guess that is where I got it.

It was my understanding that nurses with mental illness or a history of mental illness were not allowed to practice. Short term depression was evaluated. Can someone clarify this for me? Personally, I would rather a nurse have it diagnosed and be taking her meds than avoiding a psychiatrist in fear of losing the license.

What do you call an RN with her ADN? A: an RN What do you call an RN with her BSN? A: an RN What do you call an RN who passed her NCLEX? The same NCLEX that both groups took? A: an RN BSNs may go to school longer, but ADNs have to work harder to get there in half the time. I want to get my BSN, but since I am putting myself through school, I have to go the ADN route. That doesn't make me any dumber or less qualified, just that mommy and daddy didn't foot the bill.

I think it is silly for everyone to have to start on a med surg floor. It is great for some people and a nightmare for others. Personally, it's not for me. Now, this isn't saying I am above it or that I would be neglectful to patients. But I sure wouldn't enjoy it as much as working in another department. There are tons of different things you can do besides "bedside nursing" which I consider to be inpatient care waiting to come or go to surgery. Home Health sounds interesting, Cancer centers. Even OR sounds hundreds of times better to me. I just think people shouldn't get so riled up that others don't want to do exactly what they have done.

Seriously do not let the math frighten you! If you can solve ratios, you can solve about 95% of RN school math. Go for it!

I'm too tired to answer this thread. Why? Because I am a nursing student who just finished an ethics paper, a group presentation, clinical at the cancer center with aching feet and back, Then took a test today, have another test tomorrow, my student evaluation, an assignment for another class and a care plan due. did I mention I haven't had ANY relaxation??? and all that is the honest to God truth. All this week- one class- except the one assignment. Before nursing school, I didn't study. I made As. I had a 3.85 going into nursing- with ALL pre-reqs. People told me it would be hard, and it still didn't prepare me. This will probly be the hardest thing I EVER do. Finish out your first semester and tell me if you don't think it's hell.

I'm thinking the nurse who said to behave like the 7 cm woman is NOT a good nurse. Everyone experiences pain differently. She would have been better by shutting her mouth and giving the 2 cm woman some meds.

I don't work in OB... but personally, with my daughter, 0730: started IV, hung pitocin, 0800- anesthesiologist came in to start my epidural. Felt no pain until the epidural was dc'd. It was wonderful. The extent of my labor pains was "pressure" Pushed 5 times. Lasted about 7 minutes. I was relaxed and couldn't imagine how it could go any better! I might have a fit if someone withheld the epi till I hit a "goal." Why not make a woman the most comfortable as possible??

Well, I had 2 different teachers explain it both ways. No student input. I wrote it to coincide with my current prof. but I just can't replace it without knowing why. And it seems that all the text books are supporting the original, first way I learned it. I suppose I will just keep with the current way, but I was hoping someone would enlighten me to something I just am not getting and if I should return to my "normal" method after this class.

So, I thought I had it all down. But now, I am having problems with the Risk fors. I have always thought it was Risk for _________ RT _________ but no AEB or AMB because that would prove it was not a risk dx. But transferring to a new school has changed this and it is Risk for __________ AEB/AMB with no relation. It has been explained to me, but it still doesn't make much sense. Which way is the "RIGHT" way?

I posted this on another thread, but I am looking for this: I am running out of time on a paper. (due Friday 10/13) It is an ethics paper over abortion. What I need is a medical or nursing journal article over ethics of abortion. Not the law, procedure or how nurses personally feel, but an ethically supported article in relation to the nurse's code of ethics. I am finding this increasingly difficult because there are tons of articles on the legal limitations and first hand stories, but none over the ethics of it. This paper would have been written the first day if it was my opinion or the law, but it's not. Any help would be appreciated! I will be searching until Thursday! Thanks, Marcie

Welcome to nursing school. At least you are making Bs! I think it's almost unheard of to make A's. I too, was an A student before nursing school, but I find happiness in passing and making B's. It was in the second semester that I said, I only THOUGHT I was smart till I got in the nursing program. The reality is that we all are smart- that's how we got to this point. But, we are just being pushed to our limits. What kills me is that at my school, the points are readjusted. 74-83 is a C (under 74 is failing), 84-90 is a B, 91-100 is an A. And if you get a 73.9- you still fail. They don't round up. I am sitting on the fence with an 83 point something. And sadly, this makes me happy that I might still pull a B! Hang in there!

I would probly feel a bit hippocritical doing teaching on diet & exercise and smoking cessation if I myself didn't follow those rules. But personally, if that nurse is providing good care, I could care less what she does in her time away from the hospital, clinic, etc.
