avondale college... (???)
Avondale College has two campus at Lake Macquarie and Wahroonga. It is possible to commence Nursing at either campus. I completed a Diploma of Applied Science (Nursing) at Avondale College (prior to Batchelor programs). The clinical experience obtained at Sydney Adventist Hospital was extremely valuable. The program is now a Batchelor of Nursing and other post graduate degrees are available. It is still possible to obtain clinical experience though Sydney Adventist Hospital and be employed as an undergraduate nurse. This way you are learning and getting paid for it at the same time. Sydney Adventist Hospital is the largest and most comprehensive private hosptial in NSW. Check the hosptial out at www.sah.org.au

Traveling when in Oz
Public transport throughout Sydney is excellent. To check out the cheapest flights try www.webjet.com.au as it has a comparison on all carriers on one page. Flights to Fiji approximately $600 return but you could pick up a package deal for a little more that would include accomodation.

To agency or not to agency
You need to decide on the pros and cons of agency nursing. Do you want to decide when and where you work? You could also be cancelled at the last minute. OR Do you want to work in one location permanently and be guaranteed work? Could one be more exciting than the other? Not sure if I have helped or not ....

Questions for an assignment. Appreciate any help you can give thanks!
1.Which country are you practising in? Australia 2. Do you have a specialty area of practice? I'm currently working in Nursing Administration 3. What are your current issues of concern such as understaffing or mandatory overtime? There's no mandatory overtime and we also use the "TrendCare" patient acuity system. 4. Do you have any issues that are culturally related? I am not sure what you are getting at here but due to the nursing shortage we are empolying more international nurses. All staff are working extremely hard at welcoming them and assisting them to fit into the hosptial culture. 5. What level of education do you have? I have a Batchelor or Nursing.

Welcome to the Forum - General Aussie Chat
Vegemite does not come from an Australian company but if you want to taste a better "vegemite" try "MARMITE". It is all Australian made and tastes even better.

Nurse killed at work
To read each of your posts leaves an impact. To be killed in the grounds of your workplace while smoking ....? I understand each person smoking has a different point of view. When the hosptial I work in banned smoking in public places it also made available stop smoking programs for each staff member should they wish it.

Div2 to Div1-How long it takes?
While completting your Endorsed Enrolled Nurse (EEN) program you will be eligible for 12 months payemnt (You get paid to study). Once you complete this course you are able to covert and enrol in a Batchelor of Nursing program. You will be given credit for your EEN course. It is possible to work at least 2 days per week during study semester and more during vacation.

What to do now!
Recently I saw an add in the paper advertising the Endorsed Enrolled Nursing course. There are courses starting all through the year. If you contact Sydney Adventist Hospital as Joannep suggested ask for the Learning and Development Department, the Endorsed Enrolled Coordinator will be able to give you some advice and she is very approachable and willing to help. If you are unable to get immediate admission into the EEN (IV) course complete the AIN (III) and contact the Staff Allocation and Roster Coordinator who is respsonbile for the casual pool of nurses.

Enrolled Nurse vs. Endorsed Enrolled Nurse
Anyone registered with the Nurses and Midwives board in NSW as an enrolled nurse prior to 1990 is able to complete the medication component at TAFE. If you completed enrolled nursing prior to 1990 you will need to complete a conversion course then the medication component. You will then be elegible to register as an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse. Anyone commencing studies with TAFE now will complete the Endorsed Enrolled Nurse (IV) program. There are no more Enrolled Nursing programs now that the Endorsed program has commenced. This may be in NSW only.

nurses uniform inquiry
I would wait until you are at the hosptial you will be working in to find out their specific requirements. That way you will not be wasting money. The hospital I work in Sydney supplies you with a uniform. You have a choice from different styles. It also depends on the area you are working. ie theatre, emergency, ICU or general wards.

How to get in TAFE for Enrolled Nursing?
All students enorlled in the Endorsed Enrolled Nurses course through TAFE NSW are allocated to a hosptial to work for the 12 months program. You will be earning money while you complete this course. More are electing to complete the Endorsed Enrolled Nursing course prior to coversion to Batchelor of Nursing program. This way they are paid for the first 12 months of their study and can then be employed as an EEN while completing BN.
