Thank you both for the response! I'm bumping this thread in hopes that more Buffalo nurses will see it. MFS sounds REALLY interesting and is going to be close to the area that I will be moving to. Could you give me more information about it???
  6. LPN to RN 1+1 program doesn't exist for experienced LPN's

I could not agree more with the original poster! I graduated from LPN school in 2005 and came across this "AMAZING" program that would be "2 years, one night a week - and you'll be an RN, BSN" - that 2 years & one night a week turned into 3 1/2...
  7. gaining skills

Oh wow - I wasn't aware of that. LPNs are OVERworked in this area. When I worked in the ER - I did EVERYTHING that the RNs did - including given IV push meds. There were 3 things I couldn't do: Hang Blood, Take Verbal Orders and Push Cardiac meds...
  8. Working while in an LPN - RN program.

I graduated from LPN school in January of 2005 and began an LPN - RN, BSN transition program in November of 2005 - I literally have been killing myself - working full time and still carrying the full-time class-load. The school advertised the progra...

  10. Working while in an LPN - RN program.

I go to Mt. State University and it has been disasterous - we were kind of the guinea pigs in this area for the program.....I'll just be glad to be done with it in 8 months!

  12. VENT: ADN and BSN

I am in an LPN to RN, BSN program currently with 8 months left. A friend of mine went to an ADN program when we got out of LPN school - so that he could finish is RN more quickly. He graduated in May of this year - and we graduate in April of '09 -...
  13. LVNS can make the money...

WOW - I wish LPNs in this area made anywhere close to that. WV LPNs start out around $12 an hour in the hospitals.....I'm sorry last month - they bumped it up to $13.......I can't wait to be done with school!
  14. gaining skills

Do you not like the hospitals? I started on a Trauma Unit and I saw basically EVERYTHING and ANYTHING come through. I was really able to learn and work on my skills - we had trachs, pegs, every drain imaginable, wounds, wound vacs, every type of ...
  15. What *really* separates a LPN from a RN?

About $39,000 :chuckle I am in my last semester of LPN - BSN school....boy has it been a ride!
  16. Do Nurses Eat Their Young?

I believe that nurses do eat their young - I think stress, frustration and time limitations in a shift all contribute into this.
  17. Can LPNs Flush PICC Lines In Ohio?

LPNs flush PICCs & get blood from them in my hospital (Ruby Memorial - Morgantown, WV)
  18. My pockets are overflowing!

Please - whatever you do....don't wear a fanny pack A few nurses at my hospital have been sporting these bad boys....it's just not a good look :chuckle Edit: NOT that there's anything wrong w/ them!!! :)
  19. West Virginia Nursing School Links

I'm doing the LPN to BSN program through Mt. State University - I highly recommend it!!!! It's only 1 night a week and you get your BSN - not too shabby :)
