  1. You would not believe the paranoia one goes through! Even just to get this interview I had to jump through hoops. Luckily they've agreed to give me a phone interview (first one in the history of CSULA's ELMN program) since I live in Vancouver. I feel relieved since it is a phone interview, but I'm also afraid that it may put me at a disadvantage. Another thing that's a downer is that I won't have other applicants to bounce ideas off and I won't be able to get a feel for what my class/cohort will be like. I look forward to the program. Now that everything is becoming finalized, I'm relieved... no more head shakes of disappointment from my family for graduating with a degree I couldn't make good use of. God bless direct entry programs!
  2. As a future student of a direct entry program myself, I completely understand where you're coming from. I come from a background where my parents have urged me from childhood to become a doctor or lawyer. I was even planning on med school until a few years ago. I got the same reaction from acquaintances, friends, even family. Why not med school? I graduated from a competitive program at my school (Pharmacology) and all of the students I graduated with went to either Pharmacology grad school, law school, or med school. I even got the same reaction on allnurses.com! Ultimately the decision is yours and you know where your interests and abilities lie. I am not for a second ashamed of my choice because I choose to be an advocate for the patients. Be proud that you made it thus far! In the big picture, not many people have the privilege of going to grad school, even undergrad school. Be strong!
  3. Congratulations stressed_girl! Not as stressed anymore, I'd say! Now, I'm getting stressed! Errrr!!! Good luck to you chachingdy!
  4. Hi all! I've applied into Azusa Pacific University, CSULA, USD, and Western University of the Health Sciences. I live in Vancouver, BC and I wasn't really sure what to expect from these schools and so I took a little trip down to California last summer. I was quite disappointed with Western (I didn't know that it was such a small scale school). The other schools, I dropped USD because it's way too expensive ($100,000). So now I'm waiting on reply from CSULA which is my first choice because of tuition and I've been accepted into Azusa's program. I've graduated with a BSc. in Pharmacology in 2006. I also took the TEAS in January and did pretty well. This is really nerve-wracking! Especially because the school had contacted me and told me that they hadn't received my graduate application in the end of Feb! and later found out that it was a computer glitch. Whew! If chachingdy and stressed_girl are still reading, holla!
  5. This is true.. about half do go into medicine, but the other half also look into graduate school or law school (drug patents). I was wondering S and T if you also had the same opinion of BCIT? I know the program is 3.5 years which does seem like a long time after 5 years of undergrad, but on the other hand I would think that the 3.5 years would be that much more valuable. I'm also looking into some direct entry MSN programs in the states (FNP). However, this is such a dilemma for me. I can't seem to decipher my own intentions of going into a nursing grad program so early on. Would it be wiser to gain more experience as an RN and then consider a FNP program, rather than diving into the profession so quickly?
  6. Hi everyone. This May I'll finally be graduating from UBC with a BSc in Pharmacology and have recently been looking into nursing schools. It's a profession with great prospects and flexibility. I've missed the UBC Option 2 deadline, but also feel that it's for the best. What schools do you think are up to par in BC? At the moment I'm leaning towards BCIT because of the strong emphasis on clinicals. Can anyone give me their opinion on the schools in BC? (BCIT, Langara, Douglas, UBC)
