  1. I work in NYC too and would love to work in your ED. That would be such a reprieve lol. I really love ED nursing and feel very conflicted about changing jobs because the patient to nurse ratios are ridiculously out of control all over NYC and Jersey. If you don't mind me asking do you work in level 1 trauma hospital?
  2. I'm a ED nurse in NYC and I can confirm that nurses can have up to 14-17 patients as mentioned by above. It happened to me as recent as last week and it's very unsafe, the city is overpopulated and there isn't even enough space for the patients sometimes they will stand waiting for stretchers. I don't think NYC will ever have the same patient ratios like California, we have too many complex issues.
  3. You are lucky to have a nurse to pt ratio of 4:1, I work in NYC and it's horrible, I had 10-12 or yesterday all day. They don't even consider the acuity of the patients they just slam you back to back with chest pains, abdominal pains and psych, it really sucks in New York City. Thinking of moving, it's very unsafe here, one time I had 14 pt's and 11 of them were admissions.
  4. I graduated from Ramapo this past May and i have to say their Nursing program was great. Its a tough program but the instructors are always willing to help with anything, they are very open. As for the info you received regarding clinical sites, its absolutely untrue and i would always recommend that people speak directly to someone in the Nursing program in order to obtain accurate info. Valley Hospital in Ridgewood and Englewood Hospital are the primary sites for where you will have all the clinical s except for psych which is at Bergen regional. Basically you either in Valley or Englewood group. Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions.
  5. Good Luck to you Laura. Take your time answering the questions and don't rush. Let us know how it went!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Hi there, the exam to my opinion was difficult. The first bunch of questions were ok then the exam got harder as i went along then towards the end before my screen shut the questions were fair again. I did 75 questions and used Kaplan to prepare for the exam and also supplemented my studies with Saunders. I had questions on priority, pt teaching, delegation, infection control(biggie), SATA's, pharm, pysc and peds.........nothing on OB. I studied for 2hrs max because i work nights and never had enough time. Good Luck in your exam. When do you take it? I also forgot to tell you take your time answering the questions.
  7. Just found out this morning that i passed nclex. I took it thursday in nyc......... Thank god the misery is over........good luck to those of you yet to take it and congrats to those who have taken it and passed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)
  8. I'm currently doing my summer externship at Hackensack Hospital but very disappointed by them:down:. I was offered a full time position when i interviewed with the condition that i work every other weekend and attend a class every Tuesday but when we got to the orintation things had changed. We were informed that now we were only being offered every other weekend position because of budget cuts and could get more hours depending on your unit. Hackensack is a great place don't get me wrong but i'm very upset:o that they deceived us plus my unit offered me only Every Other Weekend(EOW). Working EOW will not give me a learning experience i expected because the nurses get so busy on my unit that you end up doing CNA duties and now i regret turning other hospitals down for Hackensack. Just wanted to vent out and advice those of you planning to apply for next summer to have a back up plan or esle you will be disappointed if wanna learn and looking to make money through full time employment. Thanks
  9. Sorry you got denied but with your GPA you should be able to get into the other schools which you applied at.I just got my acceptance letter last week and that was after my application had been rejected by 3 other schools and i had almost given up when i received the good news.By the way my GPA was 3.63.Keep your hopes high and Good Luck.
  10. I got an acceptance letter to the BSN program for Fall 2006.I'm just glad the wait is over with because i was already thinking of plan B since 3 other schools had rejected my application. Good luck to those of you still waiting for their letters.
