  1. Nursing is my second career. I am 44 with 6 years nurse experience but my only experience has been in a fertility clinic as a nurse manager. I recently quit that job after 5 1/2 years and immediately got offered a position as a clinical operations manager at a pulmonary clinic. It's great money but I have been there for a month and feel like I am in way over my head! There was no training at all so I have no idea how to do my job and it's a horrible feeling. I was told at week 3 that I have about a two week window to prove myself to the doctors! It's a lot of project management and I have no experience in this. I was offered another position at a nearby acute care rehab. It's less money but it is closer to home and 3 twelves (which I love). Since I went right out of school into a clinic setting I never learned the med/surge nurse skills. The acute care facility would be my chance to learn it but would I be making a mistake? Everyone I talk to says I will hate acute care and to stay in my management position. But I feel so lost!
  2. Oh wow, you are not too far from me! I am in Canterberry which is just East off of Mainstreet. Yes I will be taking the light rail as well...the gas to get downtown and back everyday would kill me! It sounds like we will be in class together. I am really excited and very very nervous! -Melissa
  3. Are you in the traditional BSN class? Where in Parker do you live? I am in Parker too! Are you going to take the light rail?
  4. Hello, I have seen many posts of students starting DSON this fall....is anyone in the traditional BSN program starting this July? It would be great to hear from my future school mates :wink2:
  5. Raynebo- I think it is a 2 block walk from the final station to the school. Where in Parker are you? I am in Canterberry (East on Mainstreet). Are you excited? Have you gotten all of your stuff done? I still need to get my drug test and I think that is it! Just waiting to see when our classes are and what books we will need. Hopefully we will find out soon so that I can budget for my books! It is good to know that there are others in Parker. Maybe we can carpool for our clinicals! -Floyd (Melissa)
  6. Satori77 - Did you get into DSON? If so, when do you start? I start this July and also live in Parker (in Canterberry). I will be taking the light rail....I am going to go on a few practice runs in June just so I know what I am doing and where I am going:bugeyes: Let me know if you are starting in July too...we can get together and do a test run!
  7. Do you have a co-signer? I am pretty sure you have to own your own home before they will give you a loan. But if you have a parent or someone who can co-sign then that may work. Good luck!
  8. Yes, I do worry about the loan...I am trying to get my current debt payed off and now I will have a whole new debt to worry about! I am taking History as one of my classes this semester (I had to take a couple more general classes for my BSN). It is so hard for me. I hate History! There is sooo much work to do for that class too - a ton of essay writing! I just hope I can make it through:) So what part of town do you live in? Will you have a long commute to DSN? I am in Parker and will more than likely take the light rail.
  9. I will probably go through Sallie Mae because we are in the process of selling our house right now.... Are you taking any classes right now? I am finishing up with my last 3. I have been going to Arapahoe. I am even on the waitlist for nursing there but it has been nearly 2 years and I think I have about another year to go! I got tired of waiting, besides a BSN is better than an ADN...and in the same amount of time!
  10. Hello, I see there are a few of you starting DSON in July 08. I just turned in my app fee and was told everything was ready to go for me...just waiting for the official acceptance letter. I will be in the BSN program. I am very excited and also nervous about the work load. I, like many of you, have kids and also work part time! I was going to take patho online this semester (I go to Arapahoe) but decided I would learn more in class so I will wait and take it with everyone else. Hope to meet some of you in July -Melissa
  11. Hi Jasmine, I will also be applying for the July start at DSON. Maybe I will see you there! - Melissa
  12. Thank you all for your advice. It is nice to know I am not the only one out there who totally screwed up their gpa just out of HS. I will see about attaching a letter of explanation to my application. Hopefully it will make a difference!
  13. Hello, I am a 34 year old student and have a current gpa of 3.5. But.....I attended 2 semesters back in 1990 right after graduating HS. I dropped out the second semester, but not "officially" so I received all F's. My grade point average for those two semesters was a 1.18 OUCH! What can I say? I guess I was just young and ignorant! I wish I would have realized the harm it would do me in my future! Anyhow....in order to get into the school I am about to apply for I must have at the very least a 2.75 cumulative gpa. Right now my cumulative gpa is 2.6, I do still have 6 more classes to complete before acceptance in which I can bring that up to meet or exceed 2.75. My question is, do I have to transfer the credits from that first college way back in 1990? Will they find out if I don't? I am a very good student now I really don't want to ruin my chances because of my stupidity right after high school. Also, if you retake a course and turn the F that you orginally received into an A, does that drop from your GPA? I am guessing not but thought I would ask. Thanks in advance!
  14. Thank you so much! I have been doubting myself a lot lately. I sometimes think that maybe I am getting in over my head. I will continue on with my studies and do some more general anatomy reviewing.....I am hoping to get into Colorado University spring 2007.
  15. Thank you all for your responses. I feel a little better. I think I will try to do some reviewing when I have time. A&P has sooooo much information, I am not sure what parts I really need to have stick and what parts might be ok if I just have the general idea... I wish I would have gone to class for A&P, it is very overwhelming on line.
