  1. I have been out of practice for six years. But three out of six years I was working on my MSN degree in the US. While applying for RN positions, I was told that they could not hire me since I did not have any working experiences in the US. They wanted me to apply for NG program since I am considered as a US graduate becasue I got my MSN in the US even though I received my BSN degree in my home country. So I applied for it but they were not intersted in me. Some HR staff suggested me to take the refresher course, so I called the director of Nursing with a local community college. She told me that I was unable to take that course because "I haven't been out of practice long enough." The course is for RNs who are out of practice for 10 to 15 years... Even with an RN license, Green Card, BLS card, and more than eight years of working experiences outside the US, I am unable to find an RN position in the Bay area.
  2. I took the class in San Jose on June 06 2006 and was told that we would be learning the new guideline. Here is a website link by University of Washington http://depts.washington.edu/learncpr/ Take a look. There are illustrated charts and videos showing how to do CPR on adults, kids, infants and.....family pets.
  3. I just took the BLS class by AHA on June 03, 2006. And this is what they taught in class.
  4. No. The new guideline by AHA is 30/2 no matter with one or two rescuers. However, the ratio is 15/2 on kids or infants with two rescuers.
  5. Yes I did call the hospitals here including KP, Stanford, El Camino, San Jose Regional Medical center...And you know the rest. Perhaps it just like Suzanne said the time is not right. Now I am trying Alameda County. Thanks to you all for your responses.
  6. Don't know if it is Kaiser's rule but I also contacted some other hospitals about the job openings, "Working experiences in the US" is what they are concerned about. I don't want to think about it is about "race" but I in fact know of a girl from Poland who got a job from a hospital which I have applied for. She also did not have any working experiences here. So this makes me wonder why. Maybe, as you say, this is the worst time for job hunting because of the new grad "flood". (Or is it a good idea to take refresher course ?)
  7. Thanks for yor prompt response. I also thought about working outside the Santa Clara County. However, my husband works in Mountain View and my kids also go to school in Santa Clara. It doesn't seems to me a good idea to relocate. I also consider to find a job in the Alameda County. However, it is still a part of the Bay area. Maybe I should slow down for awhile. After the new grad "flood" ends, I will probably can get a job around here.
  8. I did call other hospitals asking about the opening positions. Still, they did not want to hire me since I did not have any working experiences here in the US. They all asked me if I had working experiences, I said yes with a "but...not in the US" because I didn't want to lie about where I had practiced. In fact, I have six-month experience in nursery room, one year in med/surg and seven years in peds hem/onc. I thought my education background (an MS degree in peds nursing from UW-Madiosn)would be a plus but I was all wrong.
  9. It is a great job, believe me. I had been a ped oncology nurse for seven years in my home country. I loved it. BTW, my preceptor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is an NP. She has very proficient knowledge of ped onc.
  10. Is there anyone who can tell me if this is true? I attended the new nurse info session at Kaiser last May. The recruiter told us that, based upon the regulations of Santa Clara County, they could not hire foreign trained nurses unless these nurses had working experiences here in the US, no matter how many years of experiences in their home countries. Is this true?
  11. Yeah maybe you are true about this. However, when browsing through their career centers, they are still hiring nurses--many positions are still waiting to be filled. (Some even have been posted since last year.) But none suits me as they told me. As for green card, my husband and I are petitioning it right now. He is the main petitioner under EB-2 category since he is an engineer with a PhD degree. We filed last Feb. So far I-140 got apporved. Code 3 biometrics was done last Apr. Our attorney said that we will probably get it within six months.
  12. No. But I can work with EAD because my husband and I are AOS pending. I also clearly indicated in the application saying that I can legally work in the US. Still can not figure out why I am not being hired.
  13. People are talking about it is easy to find an RN job in the US. However, I find otherwise. I had one year experience in Med/Sur and seven years in peds oncology in my home country. I also hold a MS degree in nursing from a renown university in the Midwest. However, I could not find a job in the Bay area. I applied for Stanford and Kaiser. They did not want to hire me as an RN, saying that I did not have any working experiences here in the US. Instead, they wanted me to apply their new graduate programs. In the end, they both rejected me. I feel so frustrated. They only wanted the new graduates just left school with IPs, not an individual trained outside the US with an RN license. Is there anyone knowing what this is about? Please kindly tell me the possible answer. Thanks!
  14. Hello fellow Taiwanese, You might want to check out this link: http://www.medhunters.com/articles/licensingNursingUsa.html Good Luck
  15. Congratulations! That sure is fast. Right now we are under my husband's application for GC which was originally processed at CSC but transferred to TSC last March. Now I am wondering if applicants under schedule A nurses and advanced degree have different qeues in terms of the process of AOS. The last time which is munites ago I checked the processing date for AOS at TSC is on 10/10/05. Therefore, yours is really fast.
