  1. I'm also a 35 y.o. mother of 2 children going through a mid life career change I'm starting my BScN at Ryerson in September so I'm afraid I have no information on the RPN program but like you I had to go back and "upgrade" a few highschool classes (math and chemistry for me) and I found a really easy way to do this. If you are in Ontario check out this website for the Independent Learning Centre http://www.ilc.org/cfmx/COU/About/cou_AboutMain.cfm?Menu_ID_Sel=600&Lang_Sel=1 You can sign up for Ontario certified highschool classes and do them online (or distance) for free and at your own pace. I had originally started with a night school to do my math but with the kids and my husband and our schedules, leaving the house even twice a week became a rather large burden. I found the Independent Learning Centre and was able to do math and chemistry online and got them done much faster than if I'd stayed in night school. Just thought this might help you with redoing your highschool classes. PS - if you're in a province other than Ontario I think you can still sign up with ILC but I think there is some cost involved for being out of province. I'm not sure you can probably check it on their website. Good Luck. -Michelle-

  3. My daughter was almost born in the toilet. I was in hospital for preterm premature rupture of membranes at 31 weeks. For whatever reason the machine wasn't picking up my contractions so I and the nursing staff figured the pains I was having all day were just from the baby moving with no cushioning. She was my first what did I know? Anyway at one point I decided I really had to go to the bathroom. There was no one around because hey I was stable and not in labour. Well got in the washroom and sat down to pee and quickly realized I was having a baby. There was no call button in the bathroom and I was in so much pain I couldn't speak. I tried to speak but words were not coming out. I couldn't move so there I was in the washroom just praying to get the strength to open the door because I could feel her coming out. Luckily the nurse came by and heard me moaning and got me out of there. Poor nurse she was so young and she really didn't want to deliver a baby all by herself. She did well and my daughter came out kicking and screaming (a relief for us considering her prematurity). Everytime I hear a story about a baby being born into the toilet I know just how that can happen. If it weren't for that nurse it would have happened to me. -Michelle-
  4. I just got accepted to the bachelor of nursing program at Humber college (collaborative program with the University of New Brunswick) and to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at York University (collaborative with Seneca college). I'm so excited I can't even see straight. I have also applied to the BSCN at Ryerson University but haven't heard anything from them yet. I'm just trying to figure out which is the best place to go. Does anyone have any input? I knoiw the Humber-UNB program gives you a bachelor of nursing degree as opposed to a Bachelor of science in nursing so I was leaning towards York or Ryerson because everything i've heard seems to be that the BSCN is the better one to get??? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, Michelle
