EC responds to NCSBN survey ...
Yes, I got the letter too and I already mailed it back. EC I think should be happy that someone is looking at the school and taking a survey. I answered the questions truthfully and I have never felt incompetent to do my job. Nor does anybody care where I went to school and for my lack of not knowing how to do some skills. I got to practice and now I am capable of doing them. I did a 12 week nurse residency program along with other new graduates. I feel like you, the NCSBN should not have let EC know about the study. EC needs to get their head out of the sky!!

As another semester at Chamberlain comes to a close ...
I will be taking Evidence based practice and Health Assessments and then the capstone. I will be happy to be done too. Yet, this year has flown by with school, working and family life. After EC, GA board problems and then Chamberlain, I am done with school for a while. See ya in the threads.....

who else is in Chamberlain RN-BSN program currently
Okay my fellow Chamberlain friends. I have four classes to complete including the capstone. I am signed up for Vietnam and the 20th century and was wondering how much writing is involved with this class?? Also, I was thinking of adding Evidence based practice so I am finished faster. What is evidence based practice class like?? Is there a book to read and of course how about the writing is involved?? Don't get me wrong, I don't mind writing but when 2 classes demand papers everyweek at the same time, it is a lot when working full time. Thanks, Nicole

Excelsior College and Georgia. How are the Precepted Clinicals Working?
No, I don't work at the hospital in Macon and I didn't do my preceptorship there either. Memorial in Savannah is where I work and did my preceptorship there. You have to have your temporary license before you start. You have to fill out a ton of paperwork before they send you the temporary license.

Excelsior College and Georgia. How are the Precepted Clinicals Working?
I was a RT and was required to do 500 hours of clinical. I work at a trauma hospital in Georgia and was able to do all of my preceptorship there. They have been very supportive of me through this process. I currently just finished my hours and have had my paperwork forwarded to the board so I can get my license. It worked out well for me due to me already being employed at this hospital. Each area where I rotated to was very supportive and made my time there well worth it. My clinical education department has been contacted by many to provide preceptorships there because of this current situation. I am not for it, but a fee (I believe) is going to be asked of those who needing to do the clinical hours. I have spoken at large to the clin ed dept but it has taken a huge chuck of time and effort to find preceptors in the hospital to do this. The only way they see it is to ask money. I am really sad that they are doing this but this what are you going to do about it. I am currently working on pediatrics and love my new job. I believe just having a new graduate of any type of schooling, traditional or nontraditional, have some sort of nurse residency program, this state would not have to require EC graduates clinical hours. My hospital offers an extensive nurse residency program but the board still insisted it wanted its own hours. What do they think a nurse residency program is all about??? Obviously they know nothing about them. Hope that answers any or all questions you may have. Please let me know if you need any other information.

Ga board of nursing now accepts excelsior!
But you will need to do clinical hours. Read carefully....

Georgia Help!
Yes, just do the clinical hours and you will have your license. I was in the same boat as Gemini79. I had to do 500 hours and my hospital let me do my clinical hours there. I will be done on monday!! Thank God. Consider working at a hospital and talk to them about doing the clinical hours.

GA BON no longer accepting Excelsior education; Speak up Cont. Updates!!
Unfortunately, the governor signed into law that will not allow Respiratory therapists to complete the program in GA. Most other states allow RT's to complete the program. If you really want to become a nurse, just go to nursing school. Respiratory is a great field as I am one also but I should have gone into nursing right out of school. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

GA BON no longer accepting Excelsior education; Speak up Cont. Updates!!
I know the school is not at fault for this but how many times have you been contacted by them regarding the GA BON?? I can count a number of twice that they have contacted me. I took my nclex in oct 2008. I surely wouldn't have taken the nclex this year at all till a decision was made. I never got the decision about my 500 hours till May. I surely wouldn't have told the students to go ahead and take the nclex out of state. I surely would have waited for a decision to be made. That is a mistake on the schools part. Like I said in an earlier post, we are all in this together and finding clinical sites is difficult but it can be done. I am just floored that LPN's are being required to do clinical hours when in LPN school most do the hours that are required.

GA BON no longer accepting Excelsior education; Speak up Cont. Updates!!
Well this board is just crazy. I am working on my 500 hours right now. I can't believe that they are denying LPN's too. I am able to precept at my current hospital but it wasn't easy to get it all approved. I feel bad for all of you especially if you don't work at an acute care facility. I would look into finding a job at one and see if they have a nurse residency program that can help you get the hours the board wants. I didn't know they were still denying graduates and that the school isn't helping much either.

Being an RT got us 500 hours. You can be compensated but not as an RN.

I also enjoyed that class. The big paper due at the end wasn't as bad as what I thought it was going to be. I actually enjoyed completing that paper. It is good that we have to complete certain steps first in order to write your paper instead of doing it at 1 time. Its a fun class!!

The board never decided to give us the go ahead to test here. They approve your license by endorsement, that is all. You have to follow the rule that was established by the board that the Govn did indeed signed into law. The board now, after 10 months have come up with a plan that allows EC students to apply for endorsement depending on which discipline you were before starting EC. Also, depending on when you registered with the school. The boards website has all the information listed.

I haven't decided yet. I know the term starts soon but looking for something without a lot of paper writing. I have completed 5, including the 1 I am in now.
