What are some of the emergencies you have encountered? I am a little overwhelmed with hospital nursing and want something different. Hoping school nursing will provide the right balance of work like balance and nursing skills

Hi Everyone! I am looking into school nursing in NYC public school. Any insight or feedback on what it is like? How do you get placed? Are you placed closer to where you live? I am looking to take a significant pay cut and hope I get to make a little more from overtime or after school. Any advice

Hi Everyone, I am new to Allnurses and am so glad I found this site. A little about myself, I love everything nursing. I worked inpatient maternal-child all my life and loved it, but I need a change. I am at a point in my life where I need a more work-like balance career; weekends and holidays off. Thankfully, I have an accepted job offer as a nurse family partnership, and am excited to explore this part of nursing in public health. . If anyone has worked or still working in NFP, please share your experience. What is the orientation period like? I know the training is virtual now but how long is the orientation period? I was told it's for a year. I know the newer NFP model calls for one home visit per day plus two virtuals, is that true? I was told I needed a caseload of 25 to 30 clients, What happens if I don't get that number? Will I be laid off? It is a grant-funded program. What do you like the most about NFP and what do you hate the most? Is there a lot of documentation? And finally, how do you manage to see all your clients? I know this is a lot of questions, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations, OHN is so different from the hospital. Much more laid back and not much documentation. Employees are screened before coming to the facility and if they are sick or display any type of symptoms, they cannot come in. At my facility, we do preemployment physicals, EKGs, Vitals, Multistix, hearing conversations, and spirometry testing. Mixed it are few asbestos screenings. On a busy day, I see about 10 employees and on a slow day 2 employees. I work for the state government. You will love your new job. Bring a book for downtime (lots).

Hi RunbNursing, NFP is an amazing program. If I take the job, I will be able to give back to the community. I love the autonomy, however, I am still thinking if I should proceed with the job. If you don't mind, I have a couple of questions. On average how clients do you see? What did you like the most about it and what was not so great about it? My biggest concern is if I don't have the number of clients needed for the required caseload, what happens then?
