  1. I am not paranoid at all. That is not what this post is about. Matter of fact neither of my families even have cameras. One has the Echo drop in. I have been to homes in the past with cameras and they watch when you eat or leave the room or go to the bathroom. Or if they don't like how you do something. It is to spy and not for the good of the patient. Sorry but I am not working in a dictatorship environment. It doesn't seem right. This post is not going how I intended it to go!
  2. You're right. They have every right to have one. But I am not gonna be watched all day. That is just weird. Where else are the cameras? In the bathroom? Trust is important. So if they can't trust us they need to find new nurses or not use us at all.
  3. I don't really know what they are doing to be honest. It is not specifically for me. Other nurses are there too. I have been with them for over a year and no issues. They just have this echo drop in thing. It just randomly comes on during the day.
  4. Thank you for your reply. I am on the fence about it. I kind of understand them wanting to use a camera. But at the same time it's creepy and distrusting. We definitely need to know it's there. And they should be used more as a communication tool for prevention. Not to "catch" someone. If they feel that way they need new nurses that they trust. I take offense to that somewhat.
  5. Hello all! How do you feel about families using cameras and echo drop in to spy? Is it even legal to do this without your knowledge or consent? This is in a private home health setting.
  6. Are you in a public school setting? I am an Lpn. I have a second interview on July 11th at a Charter elementary school. I have substituted at elementary, middle and high. But it has been a long time. I may be expecting more pay than they can match. How long have you been a school nurse?
  7. Hello Lina! The instability is an issue for me. And the benefits aren't that great. Around 40 hours a year PTO. No sick days. I think they just started matching 401 k, which is a plus. But I can't really afford to contribute with my current pay. I got offered a job at the VA clinic. 2 week PTO and 2 week sick days. But there is a long commute there and back. And its 5 days a week. The pay is $2 more an hour. I am so torn on what to do. Any advice?
  8. Wow I didn't know there was a Indian Health Service. I just researched that. And that is wonderful how you enjoyed your career. Thank you sooo much for your encouragement! I am excited about this opportunity. I have heard it's not easy getting a job with the VA. I am grateful! Hope you are enjoying your retirement!
  9. Thank you for your reply! I am afraid because I have done private duty home health for so long. I am just nervous of being in a group setting and using new skills. Current job is pretty easy. But no stability or benefits. I am kind of throwing everything to chance basically. I want to one day be able to say what you are saying about a career with the VA "grateful I was able to retire and keep my benefits for life". Very wise.
  10. Hello! I just got hired to work in primary care with the VA. I work in private duty home-health care. I have two clients with decent families and I like my schedule. However, I am trying to think of my future and retirement. My current health benefits are OK and they have a 401 k plan but no matching. The PTO is there but not good. No sick leave or anything like that. Basically the pay is decent but benefits are not so great. And the stability is not there. One of my clients gets sick a lot and will go in the hospital. Then I am out of work. So that's a concern too. It is so hard to find decent families in private duty home-health. It took me years to get these current clients. I am just afraid this new job won't work out and I have lost my families and have to start over. Any advice is appreciated!
  11. Hello! That was great information regarding VA employment! I am an LPN and have been offered a position at the Primary care VA. Any information on that position? Also could you explain more about no money put in social security? Thank you
  12. I am currently changing. I have worked in private home-health with Pediatric clients on and off for most of my 20 year nursing career. I keep coming back. It is the least stressful nursing job with the right family. But it is not without its issues. I am currently leaving both my cases and going to try and work for a clinic. I am not happy with this career anymore. Patient care is getting to me. One is in a vegetative state and very heavy. The other is a baby and the "playing" all day is not my thing. And the family has expectations of watching their other kids, dog and cleaning their house. The other nurse cleans for them, so it's expected. And family outings ....I don't like that at all. I think I am burnt out. It seems families are looking for a "babysitter" or "maid.” And I think that bothers me. Not to mention the benefits are terrible. No sick days or hardly any PTO time. Have you tried a doctors office or clinic? They are paying better now. And definitely more benefits and stability.
  13. Thank you for that wonderful advice and kind words of encouragement. You are absolutely correct. My client is well taken care of and that is all that matters. It is definitely getting better there. Hopefully it continues.
  14. This is my first time experiencing this expectation to this degree. I also take care of my clients area and clothes. Not a problem. The other nurses have set the house cleaning expectation I am afraid. I think they see I am not going to clean their house for them and seem to be OK with that. They also have the expectation of watching their other kids. Home healthcare needs boundaries but it is difficult sometimes. Keeping it "business" is easier said than done.
