Newfoundland Nursing
LPN/RPN positions are needed in fair amount on the rock. Medication course is a must now. Our facility now has a lot of PCA's which are being brought in more and more.....too bad because the assessment skills are not there. Acute care facilities do not have LPN's in ER or OBS anymore. No LPN's in ER and some areas not in Surgery either. LTC facilities are a better chance I think but only an LPN from here can give you more info. No permanent positions...on call and if you come you may have to go on the list BELOW the PCA"s. A lot of complaints about that but the union NAPE made that decision. Check it out throughly before you decide to come.

Newfoundland Nursing
OMG!!! we would welcome all nurses here. This summer we have a drastic nursing shortage and R.N's are being denied annual leave or have to take less than requested. Be warned...lots of OT, and being ordered back to work...so don't answer your phone!!! One R.N. retired 3 years ealy because she was denied annual leave in May!!! I've worked all over Canada. Newfoundland is great..outdoor life is great but YOU BETTER LIKE THE COLD WINTER'S AND SHORT SUMMERS!!!

would you be a RN for $11.00/hr?
If I had a choice today, I would not be a nurse for $50/hr. I started at $11.17/hr in 1984...now in my province we are at $29/hr. Still not much job satisfaction...working short and can't get any time off unless we apply a week in advance. Look at your stub and you lose half in taxes. Shift work means you miss half of the important events in your children's lives. I love the post by ISONAK stating she would go back to $4/hr for pure nursing...not the crap we put up with today. Soon the next Memo to come out will say..."good job saving a life today, but you did it wrong...according to policy it states....blah blah blah" Where has nursing gone?

Sometimes I Miss Being a CNA
oh my goodness...it is not about being distinguished as a LPN (CNA) or R.N. It is about nursing period. I beccame a nurse to care for the ill..not put up with the crap that management and the "committees" come up with. Policy for this, policy for that, your coffee break exceeded the time limit, wipe up the vomit before housekeeping cleans the floor, clean the shelves in the storage room, and many many more. Nursing does not give me any pleasure anymore...except for the one time when Mr. X held my hand and said "thank-you." That is what nursing should be about...you know what I said? I said "you're welcome." And for that one moment, I felt good......But then a new policy/memo came out!!!
