The University of Texas at Austin | Alternate Entry Master of Science in Nursing (AE-MSN) 2023
I have a 4.0 in prereqs, 3.94 overall, psych bachelors degree. I worked on an inpatient psych unit for a year and as an OBGYN medical assistant for 2 years (although really have the responsibility of what would be an RN and my physician supervisor discussed that in my LOR). I went into more detail/bullet points in my resume on a couple main experiences rather than trying to crunch in more experiences. My essay was very personal/vulnerable and told a cohesive story of both lifelong personal and professional experiences that have led me to psych and specifically psych NP (and not psychologist, PA, MD, RN, etc). I spent A LOT of time on the personal statement and tried to show my own unique voice and a clear story. I started drafting early so that I could take breaks and then re-read it with fresh eyes several times. I had a physician who has been on a top med school admissions committee review it. I know I have excellent LORs from two physicians and one professor. Hope that helps. Good luck with everything!

Entering DE-MSN program as first cohort?
I'm considering a DE-MSN program that just received accreditation. The school already has an established BSN program but the faculty, etc. will be all new for the DE-MSN program. It'll be a small class of 10-15. It's much cheaper than most DE-MSN programs and I can get federal aid, but I am weary of being in the first cohort. Does anyone have experience or feedback about this?

Rush University GEM Program Spring 2023
Had my interview for the GEM program last week which I think went well and next week I have a second interview for the direct entry pathway portion of my application! Eager to hear a decision coming up on October 7!

Chicago market for new RNs
I am considering direct entry MSN vs. ABSN vs. ADN routes as I have a bachelors in psychology and what end degree would best serve me. I'm in Chicago. I'm aware the magnet hospitals here only accept BSN or higher. Is it difficult to get a job at Northwestern, Rush, or U of C with a BSN? I also know there's a nursing shortage but I'm curious how much that is true in Chicago. Also, I'd be interested in psychiatric nursing.

Rush University GEM Program Spring 2023
Thanks so much! A few questions: 1. Did you consider an ABSN or ADN program? And how did you decide on Rush? 2. I'm super hesitant about the cost--how are you handling this and do you feel like it's worth it? The thought of having like a $700-1000 monthly student loan payment afterwards (based on my calculations including living expenses) is really terrifying me but I'm also maxxed out on loans for second bachelors degree. I live in Chicago and it's my understanding the major hospitals don't take ADNs etiher. 3. How has your experience been overall?

Rush University GEM Program Spring 2023
Yes I signed up for my interview slot today as well. I have heavily researched these forums and found people posted a lot of the questions they were asked, all saying it was pretty laidback. I will probably briefly review my answers to those questions and mostly try to not overthink it. Seems like it's not too tricky--mostly like why you want to go into nursing and they just want to feel you out as a person! Good luck to you too ?

I also applied for this program for Jan 2023. I submitted my application beginning of August and received my invitation to interview today!

Rush GEM fall 2022
Curious how much you were offered? I am applying for Spring 2023 and cost is the biggest consideration for me so I would really need a substantial scholarship to consider

Personal statement for direct entry NP (PMHNP)
I am looking for some feedback on a personal statement for a direct entry program (I am pursuing PMHNP), ideally from a current nursing student or otherwise qualified person familiar with admissions. Thanks so much in advance.
-
Why do you choose DE MSN?
Can I ask which one you are applying to that allows for online classes for MSN for 1 year fulltime? I'm currently looking into these programs for similar reasons.

Direct entry MSN to PMHNP
Can anyone who has attended Rush's direct entry MSN progam (or any other direct entry generalist MSN) comment their experience? I am highly considering it because I live in Chicago so it would be ideal to not move for school and obviously it has a great reputation. My concerns are the cost, especially when I don't get the NP at the end. I'm interested in hearing if you've attended and then gotten the DNP or post-master's certificate and what that process was like in terms of time, cost, etc. I want to ultimately be a PMHNP. Thanks in advance.
