  1. The interview from what I remember had standard questions like why you want to be in the OR, how you handled difficult situations, etc. My advice for you all if you decide to join UT: ask questions and show interest! And grow a thick skin—don't take anything personally. Remember the number one priority is the patient and always speak up for their safety. Good luck with your interviews!
  2. I like working with all different members of the surgical team and the level of interaction with the patient and the family. Each day varies, I can have hectic days and I can have slower paced days. What I especially like is the feeling of satisfaction I get at the end of the day—I feel like I actually accomplished something. In contrast to floor nursing, when I would leave and see the same patient day after day I wouldn't feel the same sense of accomplishment. The biggest challenge would be working with different strong personalities. Even still, I would take my worst day in the OR over my best day on the floor.
  3. Wow! Are you under a contract or something? All you should have to do is submit a 2 week notice. Does not matter if they accept it or not. I hope you have someone to talk to. Burnout is very real.
  4. I would look into what is called RN Fellowship programs first! This is similar to residency programs but fellowships are for those who have experience as an RN. You would get more support this way. Programs like this are usually inpatient hospital based however. It is possible to get a job without OR experience though, but I imagine it would be challenging.
  5. From what I understand, when other students in my nursing program did not pass that predictor, they took it again and it had similar if not the same questions on it. I would ask your faculty to clarify as they should know. Good luck!
  6. You may want to know some basic medications as a circulator so if your patient has medication allergies you know what to avoid. Other than that, you will learn as you go. Good luck!!
  7. I've not heard of nurse and physician couple in the same workplace either, but every other couple has essentially acted as if they were not together at first. Some workplaces make a bigger deal about it than others, so be aware of that. Some people think that there would be bias or favoritism
  8. Actually, it won’t let me message you, LOL. If you’re willing to share any information/tips it would be appreciated!!
  9. Thank you! I interviewed March 16, got an offer today, but they said I could’ve heard back as late as next week
  10. I was offered a position in the OR residency today!
  11. Hi everyone! As an update, I interviewed for the ambulatory clinics yesterday and the OR today. Does anyone happen to know if UTSW offers relocation bonus/reimbursement for residents? I forgot to ask, but so far I think only Medical City does that.
  12. Has anyone been scheduled for OR yet? I’ve been scheduled for an interview for ambulatory but not OR. Getting antsy LOL.
