  1. I did my background check back in March. Since I’m an internal employee transferring units I didn’t have to do an occupational health screen or drug test again. When I first started at utsw I had to do all of that like 2 weeks before my start date.
  2. You should’ve done a background check and drug screen before your start date.
  3. Are you an internal hire or new hire?
  4. Thanks for letting me know. I’m going to email the recruiter.
  5. Nope! I received an email from my recruiter yesterday but that’s it. Did you receive something?
  6. Has anybody received word of a schedule for orientation week from their managers? I haven’t heard anything. Getting a little nervous since we’re only a week out. Also wondering if we have to come in person or get to do orientation online at home.
  7. Hi. They only accept applications from BSN nurses. The only way to apply with an ADN is to already be an employee at UTSW so you should be good. I’ll be graduating with an ADN in May and starting my residency in the ICU at UTSW in July.
  8. I'm not sure but it's okay to accept an offer and change your mind.
  9. Thank you! Thank you! I’d love to connect with anybody starting a residency! Feel free to PM me! God luck everybody!
  10. I interviewed with the all of the critical care teams on 3/16. I just received a call today from my recruiter that I got an offer in the MICU!
  11. I think if ED is what you love you’d be doing yourself a huge disservice by starting on Med Surg just because of the hospital. I’ve heard good and bad things about Parkland but one thing I know for sure is they WILL teach you how to be an ED nurse. It is fast paced and chaotic down there but you’ll be able to go to any hospital in the country off the name alone. There was a time when new grads had to start on Med Surg but that’s not the case anymore. We are lucky to be able to start in the specialties of our choice now. Good luck on your decision!
  12. I’m currently a PCT at UTSW. They have the best pay for techs and since it’s a state hospital insurance is free and 100% paid by the company. I’ve worked at another level 1 hospital in Dallas and I must say my managers at UTSW are the best I’ve ever had. Friendly, understanding, flexible. Always willing to work with you. I’ll miss them not sure if I’ll ever find that again. I guess it depends on what specialty you want to start in. Not a fan of med Surg personally. ICU has always had my heart but if I had to work med Surg I would want it to be at utsw. Hope this helps.
  13. I received an email to sign up for an interview this past week. They are going to be in person starting next week (if you’re located in Dallas) so I don’t think they will make any decisions for a couple of weeks. I declined as I’ve accepted a position in my #1 unit. Good luck! Hope y’all hear something soon.
  14. Anybody here starting in the MICU this Summer?
