  1. I haven't worked there personally but a classmate of mine did her senior preceptorship on that unit. She liked it a lot and said the patients were critical/generally pretty sick. I think the ecmo patients go to the cardiac ICU though.
  2. Hey, did you end up getting the job? I was in the same boat as you and applied to be a dialysis tech to get my foot in the door of healthcare. Now, 2 1/2 years later, I'm a nurse ? I didn't use their education benefits because it requires you to work a lot during school (I want to say 20-30 hours a week but I'm not entirely sure) and requires a 3-year work commitment afterward. Decided to switch it up and start my nursing career in a different specialty but dialysis will always hold a special place in my heart. I'll add that the first 6 months off orientation is the hardest as it takes a while to find your groove and be comfortable in the job.
  3. Which one did you choose? As someone who is about to graduate from George Mason's ABSN program in a few weeks, I'd pick GMU. The program is not perfect- it has plenty of flaws such as disorganization (but I've heard that is just a common feature of nursing school in general). Many of us in my class have accepted jobs already in our #1 specialties/units and a good number of nurses at the hospitals we did clinicals at were GMU graduates as well. I know nothing about VCU so I can't speak on them, but GMU nursing grads seem to have a good reputation in the Northern Virginia area, as far as I can tell.
  4. Hi everyone! I shadowed the med-surg ICU at a hospital I really want to work at last week, and my interview is this Friday. The clinical director (who I haven't met yet) wasn't there when I shadowed, so she offered to meet with me before my interview to answer any questions I might have (it's a panel interview so she won't be in it). What are some good ICU specific questions I could ask? I got a good feel for the culture of the unit when I shadowed, but want to make a good impression. Thanks you in advance ? Edit, it's for a new grad residency
  5. I would think you’d be considered a VA resident, as long as you submit a copy of your parents military orders. My husband is military and I was able to claim VA residency from him. I also completed my first degree and several pre-requisites in another state and didn’t have any problems. The transfer credit matrix is helpful if you want to double check. For chapter 35- I’d contact the GMU office of military services ?
  6. I was accepted as well!! Congrats everyone!! I
  7. Nothing here. I’ve been checking my portal and email several times a day haha
  8. I had 91 credits transfer over, the rest that didn't were upper-level courses from my first degree so that makes sense. Also, I checked my nursing application portal today and the under review step has already been completed... anyone else?
  9. Me! Finger crossed decisions are sent sooner than later
