  1. Hi nurses, I am loving this thread. I made an entry on April 19th and I am enjoying reading. rn/writer that was really cool and helpful. I did my entrance exam today for Practical Nursing in Jamaica. Easy sort of stuff to check your Language Level and Math skills as well as Comprehension. I got 98% and I am so proud, after being out of school over 20 years!!! My 8yr old daughter told me exactly what I would have told her...... "Mom next time try to get 100%!!!" Such cheek I would have been pleased with 70%. Now who would have THUNK it!!:roll ONE LOVE MISS DETERMINATION
  2. Hi everyone, I am s pleased to see this thread while browsing! I am just starting out as an LPN but a few weeks before I had the urge to do a Massage Therapy course. I did not even know how well until reading all this that my two new courses would wrap together so nicely. I thank you all for the inspiration and I will continue to check this thread. One Love! Miss Determination
  3. Hi Nurses, Very interesting thread! I am just starting LPN program in Jamaica. I have been a dedicated Early Childhood Teacher for 20 years. I love my teaching job it is rewarding and guess what it pays next to nothing!!! However, I do love working and being with children. My Mom is a retired mid-wife and my Dad is a Chiropodist (foot Doctor). They had encouraged me to enter the Medical field, however, I wanted to teach. Now, I see that with only 25 years to retirement I need to look at other options. I am married with 2 children and will have to provide for them for years to come. I do not know that nursing was a direct calling but I got the urge to add something to my career. I would like be of service as a nurse and educator to children who are in long term care. I am compassionate, I am very dedicated and I can offer more from my life. With the current shortage of nurses, I also see this as an oppotunity for me to not only "Touch the lives of others" academically, I have the ability and the determination to go on further and to truly touch and change the lives of others. Life has been great for me I have been allowed by Divine Order to live out all my dreams so far. I really hope that I will enjoy making this change and I sincerely hope that I can make a difference for more children. Being paid a better wage will certainly be an advantage and a change. It will help me better plan for the future of my own children. All the children I have taught over the years have excelled and gone to colleges overseas. My own children would lack such opportunities because my teacher salary would not help in any way at all. You guys please encourage me I have given a lot of myself and I really want to continue to be of service. Any ideas on tying in my teaching skills with nursing would be welcome. I am currently doing a Massage Therapy Course too. I figured that during the nursing program I will be able to give "alternative therapy" as a plus, who doesn't love a massage/ foot rub!!?? It even calms and relaxes my just-turned-four year old son. He loves his back rub at night "more lotion please mummy!" Take care folks! ONE LOVE!! Miss Determination.
  4. Hi there, Really a sick and unfortunate teenage prank. Perhaps his teachers need to also be on there toes and keep their water bottles to themselves. Can you imagine what this kid would do to a teacher which in his estimation is up against him, or does not give him the test grade he would like to get.... Similar situation occurred in my country in a prestigious school where I teach. Three girls - one distracted the teacher, one SPAT in her water bottle and the third girl shook it up!!! Needless to say this got huge coverage in our national newspaper and eventually the girls were expelled. The guidance counsellors in schools need to let children be aware of the consequences for the teenage pranks and aid the students in realising that some of the silly and unfortunate peer pressure pranks can affect their entire future because of the publicity which may come out of it. Sadly, these kids may have other issues which are underlying and not being dealt with and this can be a desperate cry for help!! This student really should not get away with what he did to your son, but perhaps be forced to do community service, maybe in a place where other teens are placed for their juvenille deliquencies. He will I am sure, have time to reflect and then think twice before being so dreadfully cruel to another human being.
  5. Hi studentnurse3, Just read your message. I am overwhelmed by just reading the course outline. I have not enrolled in school yet, but I am planning to do so this year. I will be relocating from the Caribbean to study with spouse and two kids ages 7 and 3. I will study fulltime because I cannot manage working at the same time. Continue to try and pace yourself with a time management plan. You are raising 3 children that means you can survive anything!! The course hopefully, is not more difficult than chasing behind a toddler. Currently, I am a Kindergarten Teacher with 24 students.:chuckle
