University of California at San Diego (UC San Diego) New Grad Residency November 2024
So I just applied to their Clinical Nurse II position for the NICU that closed last night. I checked my status this morning, and it's already said "Others More Competitive." I've heard that people have been hired with a little less than a year, but how? ? I guess I should just tough it out and continue to build my experience while I wait for another NICU position to open up ?

I forgot to post this last week when I saw the announcement under UCSD's job postings, but the webinar will be on June 5th at 11AM. Posting is still up, so sign up while you still can! ? Also, for the new grad program, do you know if you need no more than 6 months experience at the time of application or at the time of the cohort start date? What if I've hit my 6 months exactly at the time of application? I'm not sure if I'm eligible to apply anymore, and I don't see that UCSD has an email we can contact for any questions about the new grad program (like UC Davis does). I hit my 6 months in the middle of June. ? I currently work in a Level 4 NICU in Sacramento. I'm originally from San Diego, but I moved up here for nursing school and was lucky enough to be one of the first few people in my cohort to land a job. Pay is great, but I just want to be back home in San Diego! ?

UCSD New Grad Residency March 2024
Thank you ? originally, I was thinking about toughing it out and getting the experience before I apply to any hospitals in San Diego.. but I'm just so eager to go back home because I hate Sacramento ? I only moved for nursing school and ended up landing a job here. But I guess for now, I should just rack up the experience and as much money as I can because the pay difference between RNs in San Diego and Sacramento is huge. I went to a private university so I'm in a ton of student loan debt ?

Ahhh, thank you so much! I forgot to look into other health care systems like Sharp and Scripps LOL. I saw that they had a webinar today at 3PM. ? Did you happen to attend and figure out what units were hiring? I was hoping to stay in the NICU!

LOL never mind then! ? I'm not willing to quit before my 6 months unfortunately ? I looked at UCSD's current Clinical Nurse 2 NICU position that's posted, and it says, "Minimum two (2) years of recent Level III NICU RN experience. (If sufficient applicant pool, department may consider RNs with less than 2 years of NICU Level III experience.” I may just tough it out at my level IV in Sacramento for another year and a half or so until I reach 2 years of experience and apply for a Clinical Nurse 2 position when I'm eligible.

Hey all! I have a question, but I'm not sure any of you would be able to answer. I'm a new grad nurse working in a level IV NICU at a hospital in Sacramento. I will be hitting my 6 months in June, and I saw that there is potentially an application opening in June for a November cohort. I know it says less than 6 months experience is required, but do you know anyone that has gotten into the new grad program at UCSD with prior nursing experience? And do you think having exactly 6 months of experience at the time of application will disqualify me? Sacramento pay is great, but San Diego is my home and where I'm happiest so I'm just trying to make my way back, for my mental and emotional sake!

UC Davis New Grad Residency Fall 2023
I heard the exact opposite from a nurse manager and that they hired too many for the July cohort & barely have room to hire for the october cohort. I feel like this application round has been such a mess, and there hasn't been any straightforward answers.

UC Davis New Grad Residency Fall 2023
applied on April 10th, status changed to "routed for further consideration" on April 26th, and as of today, I still haven't heard anything or received any interview invites. the waiting game has been an emotional rollercoaster, and I have lost all hope at this point. good luck to everyone who's still waiting to hear back and congrats to those who have gotten offers extended to them. ❤️❤️❤️

Hey, y'all. Has anybody gotten an interview anywhere or heard any updates?

UC Davis New Grad Residency Fall 2023
Yes, we cannot re-apply to it because it is the same Job Req ID#. My classmate got a response this morning, and those who applied before the April 10th deadline are still being considered for the July and October cohorts. She also mentioned in the email: "The repost is a one-time exception and not tied to our October Cohort. There have not been changes to departments hiring."

I've been routed since April 26th, and I still haven't gotten a call from either of the units I got routed to, so now I am finally starting to lose hope and getting a little impatient ???
