I currently work very closely with a large number of critical care nurses and nurse practitioners across the entire province from various different sites and am extremely lucky to be able to talk to them about my future in schooling and as a RN. I can say that ALL of them have advised me to choose BCIT over UBC. A lot of them have highlighted that students from BCIT are better prepared and are put at the top of the pile when assessing resumes for a full-time line. Also, I would say that BCIT is highly regarded for their nursing program, even more so than UBC. With that being said, I’m still on the fence between UBC and BCIT because regardless of the advice I have been given there is a demand for nurses and I truly believe everyone will get a job in the end.

The shorter program is definitely a huge pro for UBC. I have been accepted to UBC & BCIT and I’m having a hard time deciding! I’ve actually heard that BCIT has an advantage when applying to your masters (especially NP). I think the last year of paid preceptorship is also a nice benefit for BCIT’s program. In the end, I would probably want more hands on experience before being thrown into a full on career in nursing. I’m still unsure of my decision, but either way a spot at UBC or BCIT will open up! I’m hoping every hears back soon as I definitely know it’s a stressful process.

I applied with a 3.8 CGPA with a bachelor of science degree from SFU. I also work as a rehab assistant throughout my undergrad, and started working as a project coordinator for quality improvement with PHSA after graduation. I don’t think I did well on the Casper test, but still managed to get an acceptance. There is definitely hope if you think you did poorly on that component!

Just got accepted!

So much anxiety all day waiting around for 4pm haha. Hoping to hear soon whether it be an acceptance or rejection!

I think so too for this intake. I applied last year (sept 2020) but my prerequisite ended up being expired. During the process of applying I had a phone call with my assigned admissions officer and they basically told me Casper wasn’t too important. However, I think it is definitely weighed heavier now that it’s been around for a bit. Sept 2020 intake was the first intake that required Casper

Everyone on this forum has such strong applications! I’m sure if they sent out any acceptances today one of us would have gotten something! Hopefully if anyone did get in today they post on here just so we know what we’re working with

It’s all so confusing! I really thought applicants with degrees were considered first. I’ve heard in previous years that 53% of those admitted have degrees, but it could have all changed...maybe Casper test is the end all be all now Haha. I guess it doesn’t matter now we just have to wait! Good luck everyone ?

This could also be true! I have a degree with a 3.8 CGPA & 4.0 for all prereqs + a decent amount of healthcare experience. Perhaps it’s based on Casper? (I don’t think I did too well on that).

I was also thinking this. There is only 64 seats - not hard to send all the acceptances out together. Perhaps it’s based on admissions officers?

You too! I also applied to UBC. I currently work as a project coordinator within Vancouver Coastal and work with tons of critical care nurses. After speaking to a lot of them most have told me to steer clear from UBC as they see discrepancies in skills between students from UBC versus other schools that have more clinical hours (I.e., BCIT, KPU, Langara). Although I love that UBC is 20 months as I already have a degree I am now scared I would be less skilled, but I guess I will see once acceptances go out ? Best of luck to you!

I also got into KPU! I’ve been running around trying to finish the checklist for the OSS. My immunization records took just a few hours to be pulled so maybe you’ll get yours sooner. Is KPU your second option? I’ve been going back and forth about whether I would accept BCIT (if I get in) or go to KPU. I like that KPU is only 27 months versus 36 months at BCIT, but BCIT of course has more clinical hours.

Hmm.. mine still hasn't updated to received. I'm wondering if it's because I submitted on late Friday afternoon, and the admissions officer hasn't gotten to it yet? Did you just go to Student Self Service & then myCommunication to see the update? Thanks!

I just submitted my application. How long does it usually take for "my communications" to show that your application has been received or is there somewhere else I can check?

Hi! I have been offered admission for Sept 2021. I’m wondering what the job market is like for those graduating with an advanced entry degree as I don’t think we get as many clinical hours. There is a facebook group: Kwantlen Faculty of Health that seems to have lots of BSN-AE students, worth a look!

Does anyone know if acceptance is given out on a rolling basis or all apps reviewed after March 15?

It seems as though majority of people feel like CASper is a shady operation as for the first time in North American history, schools are putting their screening process in the hands of a FOR-profit company. Majority of admissions committees are held accountable to the university with regard to having an impartial and transparent screening process. However, what happens behind the scenes of a private company is not monitored. I’ve also read that the validity behind the CASper test has never been peer reviewed. With that being said, I didn’t think it was too bad! I’m definitely skeptical since as prospective students we never receive our grades. How can we ever improve If we don’t know whether the CASper in particular lead to regrets on an application? I guess this is just another stepping stone we must overcome to achieve our goals...

Hey Everyone! I am writing my CASPer exam in 30 minutes. After reading multiple forums it seems as though everyone has the same take on it - an unfair, scam. Who knows! I believe it takes more than 5 minutes to think critically and answer 3 questions clearly, but that's just my opinion. I'm hoping they don't weigh it too heavy during the admissions process. I am applying with a Health Sciences degree (180 credits). My GPA is roughly 3.8 on a 4.33 scale. I have 2 years of experiences as a project coordinator for a health authority (mainly working with ICU staff). In addition to those 2 years, I have 2 years of physiotherapy assistant experience, as well as 5+ years as a volunteer at a seniors home care centre. Although I think my application is decent, I am extremely worried about the CASPer exam - I think it could make or break my app.
