  1. @Dcast5, honestly I did not do any of the practice questions, they key here is to pass the personality test portion, just think of leadership and independent thinker. try to have all of your answers as consistent as possible on the personality questions, other than that the deductive reasoning requires some mathematical thinking in my opinion.
  2. Im not really active here, if you'd like give me your email and I can give you some tips . @MurseRN1996
  3. @apragma525, it may or may not be a couple of days, depending on your unit or outpatient clinic. Some people get called a couple of days others get called within a few weeks. When I interviewed they told me to call back if I did'nt hear from them in a month. I got an offer in less than a week so maybe just depends how many people they're interviewing and how busy they are.
  4. Hello all, I received a job offer at LAC+USC, of an RN1 A ITEM with SHIFT OF NEED position. I am curious to know what this all means? I was told this is a permanent position so does this include benefits, paid holidays 401k etc? And if anyone knows what is meant by SHIFT OF NEED, please help me out here in understanding because I am clueless .
  5. @apragma525, the exam results I got 2 days later I believe . After that you receive your results and pass the exam you can call nurse recruitment to schedule any available appointments with them. After that im not sure how long it takes for them to clear you and get back to you. But from what I've heard it can take up to a couple months.
  6. @apragma525, I applied the first week of September and got an email to take the exam around mid December . so for me it took roughly 3 months for them to email me to take the exam. The exam that I took consists of personality questions and some deductive reasoning questions, in my opinion theres no way in studying for this exam.
  7. @nalie2, so say for instance if I work in an outpatient unit I can transfer to a different clinic or to an inpatient position? My plan is to stick with LA County and advance in my education and hopefully work as an NP. thank you for responding to my questions , honestly my overall goal is to just work somewhere were I can learn more and be able to grow from there. So far I've heard green things about County and I cannot wait to see for myself. How are your hours? Are the clinics also 12hr shifts?3 days per week?
  8. @nalie2, thank you, are working for county right now? if so how are you liking it? is there opportunity for growth? im looking into doing outpatient clinics and plan on getting my FNP or Psych NP,am wondering if it will hurt me in the behind if I don't do hospital setting work.
  9. @nalie2, got it thank you! I don't know why I thought it would be at least a little above 40 . In your honest opinion would you say it is worth it in the long term to keep working for county for both clinic and hospital ?
  10. @nalie2, I see online it says it ranges from 82,000-124,000 annually, I tried to break it down making it about $47 hourly for a new grad, would this be accurate ? and thank you for responding . Do you know if the salary goes up if you stay with the county and acquire more experience ?
  11. @lilscholar, thank you just emailed them! And congratulations on your new job! Do you know anything about their clinics as far as pay being the same for inpatient and outpatient clinics ?or any real differences ?schedule or benefits?
  12. @lilscholar, they are asking for resume, recommendation letters and certificates. Are we allowed to still send the cover letter even if it was not asked for? As for the certificates this includes BLS,ACLS etc?
  13. Hi guys, So for all experienced nurses wether working in a hospital or outpatient clinic I would appreciate your advice and insight. I am a new grad RN, hoping to become a future Family Nurse Practitioner. My question is, is it necessary to have hospital experience to become an FNP specifically working in an outpatient clinic setting? What are the chances of landing a job as an FNP if I decide to not do hospital setting and instead as a new grad start off in an outpatient clinic? If im honest with myself, during my clinical rotations and preceptorship I never really saw myself or enjoyed the hospital setting, but I did truly love the rotations I did at the community clinic working with the FNP's. My ultimate dream is to be an FNP in a low income community ,so again my question, am I really kicking myself in the behind if I do not start off in the hospital as a new grad?
  14. @Diamondzee1, I graduated from the school already. As far as professors I cannot say much because when I graduated they were in the process of hiring different professors, some professors are no longer teaching the same classes. there are new professors from what I was told. , as far as the system what do you mean by this?
  15. thats weird, I called and he said there was med surge . Try calling tomorrow and everyday after that. don't give up, something should open up. @NurseEm10
  16. @NurseEm10 did you call today ? For what unit specifically. I just called a half an hour ago and they have med surge and other outpatient units available
  17. okay, I just figured out their phone number and how to proceed, I am scheduling an interview tomorrow, @NurseEm10, the phone number is (323)409-4664
  18. @etchensketch , would you know what number to call for LAC+USC? I have actually tried looking for it and cannot seem to find the number.
  19. 100 is a passing score it puts you in Band 1, meaning youre at the top of the list I guess?, so far one of my other nursing friends told me that she contacted the nursing recruiter and got an interview. So that is my next step, try doing that as well.
  20. @nalie2, thank you for your response, it has been 9 days since I got my results on email. I am now thinking of waiting this last week and if I do not hear anything from them I will absolutely call. I wonder if they are backed up or not hiring due to Covid.
  21. The one thing I will say is it doesn't have the best tracking record but again not all schools do for a reason, its nursing, but it is very doable, and you will learn a lot of self discipline. As far as working you don't have to quit, they will not ask for prove of you not working, the only thing is if your job is flexible to let you work hours when you're not in school then you'll be set. More than half of my cohort worked either part time or full-time, on days we did not have class, its very hard to work and study at the same time but its doable. I worked part time and full-time while in nursing school, you'll get used to it.
  22. So only speaking for LATTC,for the waiting lists, they do not choose people with the highest GPA, to give you an example, my overall GPA was 3.0 but my sciences GPA was around a 2.5 , with that in mind I had a classmate or several classmates who got in with a 2.5 overall GPA and a sciences GPA of 2.5., we all still got in . They go by first come first served, so the sooner you apply the sooner you'll get in. Im not sure how long the waiting list is now, but it varies, your luck might be different than everybody else. I say this because I had a few classmates who waited about 2-3 semesters(1-1 1/2 years),even with high GPA's like 3.5 to get in meanwhile I only waited about 4 months with a lower GPA. You just have to meet the minimum requirements, attend a mandatory orientation and then they'll put you on the wait list. If people who are on the wait list get accepted into other schools they cut those people off and make space for the rest who are on the wait list. Again everyone's time varies, but if your name is destined to be picked earlier or later it is what it is. Don't give up hope, I know when I was looking for RN programs I was depressed thinking I would never get into one or that ti seemed like it was taking for ever , but you never really know what this life has in store for you. Do your part and the rest will be taken care of when your time comes, it just requires a lot of patience. I know my opinion wasn't asked but if I can offer my two cents, Its better to exhaust all options that are available to you rather than to just stick to lottery based CC's. , in the meantime while you wait, start to look for hospitals to volunteer or get a hospital job that has opening for any position, this will help you get your foot in the door once you're done with nursing school, they never say this to us but its hard getting a job as a new grad, this state is super impacted.
  23. Hello everyone, I am creating this post because I did not find a lot of information on the web regarding this topic. I recently passed the LA County exam for the RN I/RELIEF NURSE position, according to an email that was sent to me with my final score. However I am not sure about what to do to proceed with the possible hiring /interview process. I know that nursing managers are said to call based on whatever Band a person is placed on. With that in mind, does anyone know how long it usually takes for a hiring manager to call(for example if you're placed on BAND I)? Has anyone had experience with this? (I am looking forward to working for LAC+USC) ,Or if anyone can share any suggestions or things I should know I would appreciate it, thank you all.
  24. I applied to both lottery system based CC's and CC's that go by waiting semesters. haha, try applying to both, you never know who might choose you or where you will end up. Whatever you choose I hope that you find what your'e looking for. Best of luck to you .
  25. I know this is an old post but , if you get a 75% int he first semester for any of the classes you get kicked out, But if you pass first semester and continue on to second through fourth you are allowed to retake only one course. Meaning if you flunk a class in second semester or third, you can retake one, after that if you flunk another course youre completely out of the program .
