If I remember correctly, I read somewhere where it said you have to finish 50% of the prereqs at Douglas. That could be the issue you are having. I would speak to enrolment services and double check with them. They are changing the structure of things starting September 2022, but I can't seem to find the info about finishing 50% of the classes at Douglas anymore. They could've changed that. I would definitely recommend reaching out to Douglas and double checking. Before each application it would always ask me what program I wanted to apply for and you would have to specifically pick Bachelor of Science in Nursing - 2nd year entry. That option will only be visible when applications are open. ? Im sorry that probably wasn't very helpful.

That's a very strong GPA! I got my offer May 17. I had to pay my deposit by May 25 to secure my seat. I'm assuming you are waitlisted since you haven't heard back yet and it's been a while since offers went out. Hoping you hear back soon though! There's also a facebook group for Winter 2022 intake!! Well I actually already accepted both offers. I'm probably going to be dropping my seat at Langara within the next week when registration starts. Just trying to make some final decisions before I do that. And that's awesome! When did you finish your prereqs at Douglas?

Hi ☺️ thank you! I think I'm leaning more towards Douglas for a couple of reasons that I mentioned at the end of my post.

Hey! I got accepted for the fall intake at Langara and the Winter intake at Douglas! Douglas specifically looks at when you finished their 10 prerequisites and I believe it's a 1.5-2 year waitlist. I finished my prerequisites in fall 2019. I could've gotten in for the fall 2021 intake but completely forgot to apply. For reference, they were accepting people for the Winter 2022 who finished the prerequisites in Summer 2020. As I'm sure you know, Langara only has five prereqs. However, I'd say you would have to have a really good GPA to be considered. I believe some people with a 3.6 got rejected for this intake (not even waitlisted). Overall, Langara is much faster to get into than Douglas. If you have a strong GPA (higher than 3.6) then work on the prereqs for Langara. If not, then I would consider Douglas. For me personally, I think I'm leaning more towards accepting Douglas for a couple of reasons. The distance is much closer, you get summers off at Douglas, and I'd have to retake micro and patho again at Langara (no summers off). Only con is that I will graduate a semester later since I will be starting in Winter and not the fall. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! Best of luck to you ?

For Langara, they wanted immunization forms done one month before the start of the program. The criminal record check and first aid certificate were due first day of classes. The mask fitting was due before first day of clinicals. I'm assuming things should be similar with Douglas? We are getting all the info end of July. As soon as you receive it, I'd start working on them as soon as possible. Some vaccines take a while to get, incase you are missing any!

Hey! For my first aid course, I signed up at St. John's Ambulance for their CPR-BLS (HCP) course. I'm doing mine June 1 + 2. It was $165. I also already started my immunizations. I had this information from my acceptance at Langara so that's why I know this ? I got my TB skin test done recently at TMVC in Burnaby. They have other locations as well if that doesn't work for you. It was $55.

Our last semester will be fall 2024! We should be graduating December 2024 ☺️

That makes sense. It doesn't make sense for me to go there or Langara and have to redo some of the classes I already finished at Douglas and pay more money just because BCIT/Langara "sounds better". We all finish with the same degree at the end of the day and have the same job. I need to get over the mentality that one school is better than the other. What year are you in at Douglas?

I think it was just the reputation part about Langara and BCIT that people are making me feel like I need to go there over Douglas. Hey guys! I was reading through this post and was hoping I could receive some input. I'm having a difficult time deciding between what school to go too and would love to hear what you all think. I applied to BCIT, Douglas, and Langara this year and so far I have been accepted into both Douglas and Langara. I'm still waiting to hear back from BCIT. Breaking things down, it seems like Douglas has the most pros to me. Douglas would be a 15 min drive. It only has 6 terms, so I would get summers off. It's a cheaper option than the other two. I'm also familiar with the school, since I've done all of my classes there. BCIT is said to have the best reputation. IDK if that really matters. BCIT would be approx. a 30 mins drive (give or take depending into the traffic), more expensive, 9 terms (believe we don't get summers off). Langara also has a good reputation. However, langara would be 9 terms as well (no summers off), more expensive than Douglas, and the drive is approx. 45 mins. Again, give or take depending on the traffic. If I choose BCIT or Langara, I would get to start fall 2021, meaning I get to graduate Summer 2024. If I choose Douglas, I start in the Winter of 2022, meaning I graduate in fall 2024. With the pros that Douglas holds, do you think I should go to BCIT or Langara simply because I get to finish a semester earlier and because it has a "better reputation"? Let me know what you guys think please! Any input would be helpful.

Hahaha ? definitely took alot of work to get to that GPA. I had to upgrade 2 classes because I was rejected twice from langara and once from Douglas and BCIT. Wasn't easy. Thank you for your advice though! I have alot to think about. Congrats again on your acceptance! Maybe we will meet in the Winter ?

Congrats on your acceptance!! ? And thank you for your input. Everything you said was correct. I'm still waiting to hear back from BCIT, but it's such a hard program to get accepted in. In terms of Douglas, I will have an easier workload, only 6 terms, summers off. Whereas at Langara, I would have to retake patho and micro I believe ? Douglas would also only be a 15 min drive from me and Langara would be around 45 mins (could be more depending on traffic). At the end of the day, we will be nurses regardless of the school we graduate from. I think the only thing holding me back is that people say Langara + BCIT has a better reputation than other schools. Does that really matter? If I accept Langara, I do start a semester earlier, but again it's more expensive and more semesters.. In terms of GPA, I have a 3.78 at Douglas. Since GPA at Langara is calculated on only 5 classes, I applied with a 3.99.

I recently got accepted at Langara to start in the fall and I also just got the acceptance from Douglas, which I would be starting in the Winter. Hey! You have alot of great work experience and I think that will really help set you apart from other applicants, specifically if you applied to BCIT, since they look at work experience there! I applied twice to langara in 2020 with a 3.3 GPA and got waitlisted both times and then eventually rejected. I also applied to BCIT and Douglas with the same GPA and got rejected. BCIT more so because my GPA was low and Douglas because of their long wait list. If you read through this thread, the GPA average for this intake has significantly gone up and I think the lowest that got accepted was around 3.6. I don't remember reading about anyone who got waitlisted here. The nice thing about Langara is that they only calculate your GPA based on the 5 required classes that they have listed on their website. I decided to upgrade my two lowest classes, which was English and biology. Doing that really helped boost my GPA and eventually got me accepted to this intake at Langara! I wouldn't stress too much about volunteer hours because the only school that I applied to that I got to showcase my experience was at BCIT. In one of my emails that I received from BCIT, they said that they look more at work experience, preferably healthcare related, and your volunteer experience would only set you apart if you and another applicant had very similar applications. I would focus more on upgrading your classes that you got the lowest grade in and boosting your GPA. Also, Langara looks at your most recent grade. So, for example, if you got a B the first time and you redid the class and got a B- the second time, then Langara would calculate your GPA based on your B- and not your B. So be aware of that! In terms of applying to Douglas, they have the 10 required classes they want you to complete before applying. For the Winter 2022 intake, offers are being sent out to people who finished in Summer 2020 or earlier and have a 3.3 or higher. Acceptance into the program is based off when you completed the 10 classes and I believe there's a two to two and a half year waitlist at the moment. BCIT has alot more requirements than the other two. They look at your overall post-secondary GPA, credits (which you have a great amount of), work experience (which you also have a great amount of), and your score on the Casper test. Sorry for how long this was! Hoping I could provide some help to you. It took me a while to finally get accepted and trust me I know how hard it can be when you don't get accepted. Don't give up! Boost your GPA and you'll eventually get it! ? Best of luck to you!

I believe it was 64 or 67 seats. I could be wrong.
