Hi there. I started at WCU in January and due to the pandemic..all my pre reqs were online though the Summer. I have taken a leave for medical reasons, but was told that currently all but labs for core nursing are still online. So, that includes pre reqs and core nursing classes. I plan on starting back up Nov 21. I was told by a fellow student you has moved on to begin core, that the school really wants to return fully to campus by Nov, but not sure that will happen.

Hi there. I am starting at WCU Jan 2021. I have been told by my advisor that any classes taken must have officially transcripts submitted by the end of the first term (which is 10 weeks). So, yes you can be concurrently enrolled elsewhere and completing classes towards your pre-reqs. Just make sure the class will end and offer an official transcipt prior to week 10. I'm currrently taking a few pre-reqs online through straighterline. Self paced. WCU accepts up to 12 transfer credits from straighterline.

Hey there Mayhlee. How are things going for you in the process with WCU. I spoke to my admission rep today and hopefully should know the outcome of my enrollment in the next week or so. I currently registered with straighterline so that I can repeat Chemistry without paying thousands of bucks for it. I took it 12 years ago and I am just not getting it on straighterline. Do you have any advice or recommendations? I was hoping to repeat chem and physiology through straighterline. As well as complete english 2, but this is tougher than I thought.

I attended an online orientation earlier this year and it was explained that they will only take up to 12 credits from organizations like straighterline (CLEP, etc.).

I applied to North Hollywood campus. Straighterline is 100% online. You do not need to go through any process of applying. You simply register and then pay for the classes you want to take. From what I understand they provide the study material, tutoring, quizzes and final exams. I think the exam is proctored somehow. It is self pace. WCU accepts up to 12 credits. I priced a chem class with lab to be about $220, which includes their monthly membership fee. That is a heck of a lot cheaper than WCU and my hope it to knock out 3 classes before my Jan 2022 start date. I wouldn't have been able to do that through community college.

I know quite a few nurses...as my sister is an RN. I've her group of coworkers who have said that it does not seem to have a negative impact graduating from WCU. one has a family member who graduated WCU and did not have trouble finding a job. I also know a chemoinfusion nurse who told me the same. He graduated WCU and found a job right away. I'm in Ventura county and it does not seem to be an issue around here. I confirmed that mine were recevied within the same week I requested they be sent. The colleges allowed for electronic sending of the transcripts. I called my admissions counselor a few days after they were sent to confirm.

hello all. wondering if you who have recently used straighterline can tell me about how long it takes you to complete a course? I am planning to take phys, chem and eng 2 through straighterline. I know the amount of hours you can devote varies...but just a general idea please.

I received an email from ------------------------------- the registrar with an unofficial proposed schedule. I spoke to my admission counselor and she did say that they would not finalize any of transcripts review and schedule until around Nov, because they are currently working on the Nov students. Hi All. So I have some preliminary info. WCU sent me a draft proposal of which of my prereqs were accepted. It looks like all my sciences taken at community college within the last 5 years were accepted. Also intermediate algebra at CC along with statistics taken a Los ANgeles Pacific University. I would need to retake Chemistry and physiology because I completed them over 5 years ago. Also need to complete English 2 because I have not yet taken it. I'm not enrolled yet, but looking to start in the Jan session. If so, I will take Chem, phys and english 2 through straighterline. WCU accepts up to 12 transfer from Straighterline. It's online college credit courses, at a fraction of the price compared to WCU, and it's self pace. I've done some research and found that if you are disciplined you can complete a course in about a month. Also update on financial aide- I was able to qualify for $16,000 per academic year through their own centennial scholarship. I'm super happy about that. So in the end I will get $16,000 scholarship money, $9500 federal loan and about $10,500 will come out of my pocket (annually) upfront to secure my seat. I figured that to be about $40,000 of my own between out of pocket and loans. Luckily I can also get some of that reimbursed through my employer. For me, it's worth not waiting for CC program acceptance and earning a BS in an accelerated program. Any questions..please let me know. Happy to help.

Hi Cookie: So, my first admissions counselor was not great. He was unresponsive and hard to get in touch with for clear answers. I called the main line and asked to speak to a supervisor. Ultimately, I was assigned a new admission counselor who has been much much better. The financial aide rep I have has been great. Super responsive and helpful. If you want to know more about transfer classes, go their TES website. You can search up schools and courses to see which look like they will transfer over. That is what my admissions counselor advised me to do. She even recommended that I take classes at a local community college while I wait for Nov term to begin. At the moment, I am waiting to see if I qualify for the centennial scholarship offered by WCU. That is what will help me decide whether or not I move forward. I do not know if going through the steps of meeting with financial aide hits your credit report, but it certainly does not bind you to attending the school. The school will not officially enroll until all your payment methods have been secured. Let me know if you have any other Q's. Best wishes.

I am actually in the process of trying to qualify for their centennial scholarship. I had my financial aid appt a few weeks ago and I only qualify for $9400.00 in federal loans. No federal grants or scholarships (primarily due to my husband's income). So I tried to qualify for loans from Sallie Mae and College Ave for the remaining $29,000, but was denied. I only work part time right now. Based on GPA and HESI or TEAS score and need.... prospective students can apply for the centennial scholarship, which my advisor had me do. I'm really hopeful that I will qualify for a good amount. If so, then I will likely start Nov 2nd. My admission advisor told me to check the TES on their website. It's basically a search page where you can look up colleges and courses to see which ones will transfer over to WCU. So far, I think all my pre reqs will transfer over (except Chemistry and physio because they are older than 5 years).

Hi Cookie123d. I thought I'd come here and provide an update on my experience with WCU so far. I had meeting with financial aid last Friday. Very informative and very helpful young lady named Lupe. Each individuals' situation is going to be unique...for me I qualified for around 9,000 a year in fed loans and nothing in federal grants or scholarships (primarily due to my spouses income). 9,000 isn't much if you know their sticker price is about 38,000 per year. So, Lupe advised me to apply for individual student loans, for the remaining need, through a portal which she recommended. Unfortunately, I was not able to qualify based on my income alone. I forwarded the denials to Lupe and she then sent me an application for a specific scholarship through WCU which is offered when students have a financial gap and cannot qualify for an outside loan. I am in the process of completing that application along with applying for a few other scholarships that pointed me to. They are all through WCU student portal. It seems there is a fair chance that based on CGPA, TEAS or HESI scores and financial need....that I could qualify for a scholarship to cover a good portion of the tuition. They use a matrix to determine the need based on the 3 areas I mentioned earlier. Again, I know each persons financial situation is different, but I recommend going through the motions if you are truly interested. So that you can see where it leads you. It might be more affordable for you then you think.

Hey there. So, I am currently going through the process for enrollment at WCU N. Hollywood. I have a similar background as you. I completed some of my core sciences over 10 years and did not get the best grades (C's). My local community colleges all have some kind of matrix for a point system. They all vary a little bit, but in the end I know I will not be one with the highest points. I'm 41 yo and this is a career shift for me, so I really do not want to be a on waitlist for 2 years. Just a little insight from the asking around that I have done. I have several family members that have been RNs for 15+ years, friends as well. What I have concluded is that there doesn't seem to be an issue for WCU graduates finding jobs. I too was weary of a for profit school reputation. Sometimes ppl tend to think you just buy your degree. I know of at least 3 ppl that graduated from WCU, all whom found jobs quickly and one particularity I know well. Stated he got a great education at WCU. He finished almost 5 years ago and works in a chemotherapy infusion center now. As for the financial piece...I haven't made it there yet. I have an appt with a financial counselor in a couple weeks. I've read other threads here where students have stated they have slashed the tuition by 30,000-40,000 through qualifying for various grants and scholarships. If you are truly interested, then contact the school and register for a zoom orientation. It is very in depth. Then you can take the next steps and truly find if it is feasible for you. The required GPA is 2.5 ( I think), cumulatively. Pre reqs must have been completed within last 5 years. They do accept up to 12 transfer credits from entities such as straighterline. I don't recall the TEAS pass rate this is required. I didn't take the TEAS. I took the HESI, just last week and it is only required for WCU to test reading, math, vocab, and grammar. Minimum passing is 76. I scored 93. More points, more chances for scholarships. I will come back here and update you after my financial aid appt. Best of luck to you.

Hi! I'm here after taking the HESI yesterday. So glad that is done! First, the school I am applying to only requires testing in math, reading comprehension, vocab, and grammar. I purchased the HESI A2 guide that is in this link above. That was an excellent starting point. However the pocket prep app is what really helped me out. I highly recommend it. In order to get maximum benefit, you will need to purchase a premium account. It is well worth it at 14.99 a month. I had only one week using it to prep. It allows you to set up test exams and the questions are very much like those on the actual HESI. Also allows you to determine which area you need the most study. Every question has an explanation for the answer. It was really a great tool. As for the test... Math- Big on ratios and conversion Examples- 12:48::X:112, find value of x word problems where you will need to determine things like how many ounces in 3 gallons. so know your conversions. They are page 42-43 of the HESI study book Reading- Fairly easy. It was mainly read a passage and determine things like authors main point, summarize, what is a true fact stated, what was not stated, what did the author infer. Vocab- Very few words on the test that were not in the HESI guide book. So study those Grammar- My biggest weakness. Pronouns, predicates, adverbs, etc. That was studied long ago for me. I did most of my practice tests in this subject. The practice tests on pocket prep almost mirrored the content on the HESI, so again, use it. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions. So I have done some research and it sounds like we can expect conversions to definitely be on the test. E.g. ounces to cups, liters, etc. and centimeter to millimeter. That kind of stuff. The tables are in the HESI guide on pg 42-43. Also expect to know the details of grammar. That is probably the area I need to study most. It has been a really long time since I looked about pronouns, predicates and conjunctions. What school are you applying to? I start a 4 week Summer anatomy class next week. EEk. It is a repeat for me because I Originally took the class 10 years ago. I also took chem 12 years ago and remember hardly nothing.

The school I'm looking to apply at only tests reading, math, vocab and grammar. I'm still nervous cause it's been a while since I've studied those subjects.

I'm studying with this book now. Scheduled to take the HESI next week. I will come back here and let you know how it went.
