Duke ABSN Fall 2021
It’s hard to say... Here’s why. We don’t know if we’re going to be in-person in the fall but I’d say there’s a good chance we’ll be more in-person than we are now. Right now, I personally don’t find it difficult to balance everything because we can roll out of bed and log into class and have a lot of ‘free time’ to study and review because of how they’ve reworked with covid.

Duke ABSN Fall 2021
From my understanding, Duke’s nursing school does not provide 100% tuition in scholarships. Everyone in my cohort that I’ve talked to about money (which is not many) has some sort of loan be it federal, private, or both.

The process is just the layout of the program and how everything works. Is it different than I expected? No but that’s because I didn’t come from a healthcare background and I didn’t know what to expect so I was game for anything. I personally didn’t find the adjustment hard but I can’t speak for everyone in my cohort.

Duke ABSN Fall 2021
First semester is busy! Keep in mind, it’s an accelerated program so they’re throwing a lot at you at a short amount of time. The faculty is incredible across the board. Very supportive and open. They truly make you feel like they care about you and they’re fair in terms of tests. Their doors (well, zooms) are always open and anything you need help with they are willing to give extra time to. The Clinical Instructors are the same. Everyone is just really friendly. At the root of it we all have the same goal: we want to become well-trained nurses and they want us to be well-trained nurses by the end of the program. I think the program is well organized in terms of curriculum. They say a lot before the program begins ‘trust the process,’ which felt overwhelming. But now that I’m in it, I totally get what they mean. Overall, I’m incredibly happy with my choice.

Duke ABSN Fall 2021
We’re hybrid right now. Most of our classes are virtual. We have our labs and clinical rotations in person. However, a lot is up in the air with the vaccine. (We did have access to the vaccine as a cohort and it was optional.) I know they’ve floated the idea of us being more in-person in the fall so nothing is set in stone yet. I’m assuming at the minimum, we’ll continue to be hybrid. I personally didn’t receive any financial aid. I wasn’t planning on Duke but fate intervened so I missed the deadline for financial paperwork. We haven’t really discussed finances as a cohort other than private student lending options. I do know that Duke does not provide 100% assistance. A majority of the people in my cohort have had to get a private loan. But Duke does have helpful repayment options if you agree to work for them for x amount of years after you graduate.

Duke ABSN Fall 2021
Hey all! Just wanted to send positive vibes & good luck to you all. I'm in the most recent cohort that just started a couple weeks ago. We had some great current students hop on our forum before we started and it was super helpful, so if you have any questions about pre-admissions or current COVID protocols, let me know! I'll answer the best I can. Best wishes you all get in! P.S. If you’re curious what Duke is ‘looking for’ I don’t think there is a solid answer. Our cohort is very diverse, from all over the country, and with varying previous health care experience (I had none)!

Duke ABSN Spring 2021
Hey! I know your question wasn’t directed to me, but I’ll answer the best I can anyway. We all have been chatting over the last couple months and to be honest, I don’t think there’s any one thing I can say that we all have in common (although we haven’t really discussed our GPA). It seems like Duke wants diversity (in all aspects) above all. Some of us have worked in the medical field some of us have not. Some are recent college graduates and for some this is our second career. Some are finishing their prereqs after getting admitted. So I would say try to stand out in your personal statements and pick references that can speak to your ability to care for others. Tbh, I applied late and still got in so I think they are looking for someone that they think will be successful in their program. Hope that helps!

IDK if you were in the duke days session with faculty but they touched on some of this a bit. If anything the students in during this calendar year were the guinea pigs and we’re the lucky ones. Classes labs and clinicals have all been online during this time. If someone gets sick they will have to do virtual class. They also will be social distancing and every duke student will receive a free duke mask. They will be doing health and wellness checks and if you don’t pass you will have to zoom into class but you will still be able to cover all your requirements. Also if anything g this might be the best time to apply and pursue this career. Less competition, more special focus/ attention from professors/ advisors/ etc. Also with so many people dying there is a need for more people like us in the world. Personally, I couldn’t think of a better time to become a nuse.

I have a personal question about the program, is there anyway you can PM me? I tried to send it you one but it said I'm allowed 0 messages per day and to try again later.
