Hello!? I know it is a little early to be starting this forum, but I thought I would go ahead and start the forum for the Emory BSN+MSN Summer 2021 Entry! I emailed admissions this week and they informed me that the application will open at the end of June - woo!

I agree... I would not feel comfortable learning this curriculum under an online format - hands-on clinical experience is crucial in nursing. I would be more comfortable if they moved our cohort to a later date. I feel as though we would be at a significant disadvantage for the workforce if we had to complete a good portion of our program remotely. I also agree that the pandemic will likely still be active in the Fall. I have a feeling "the end" will come to fruition through "herd immunity" from survivors (similar to past Flu pandemics) or continued acts of quarantine and social distancing until a vaccine is developed.

Oh, WOW!.. that is super intense - but your service at the hospital right now is super appreciated. I would be super interested in reading that article if you still have it! YES! Raleigh has a good number of breweries, 25 the last I heard; Raleigh Beer Garden is my favorite. Bull City Ciderwords is the one you're talking about, I believe!! I have been dying to go, but none of my friends are into ciders or sour beer like I am. Regarding the FB page, I do not believe one has been made yet - I think the DUSON admissions offices creates it?

I know the feeling! My pupper has a vet appointment during the second half of the virtual duke days, so that I will be missing the student panel. I plan on participating in the faculty panel @OctaviaF, if you have any questions you'd like me to ask, DM me and I will do my best to get them answered for you! Since we will no longer have an in-person Duke Days, maybe some of us can set up something (like a small get together at a brewery or park, IDK LOL) as we get closer to August. Maybe the end of July or early August? Just so we can get to meet and know one another... this program is going to be a wild ride, I'm sure, so I think we would all benefit from a strong support team.

It is 16 months, so 3 "traditional" semesters and 1 Summer semester. Since we are starting Fall 2020, we would graduate in December 2021. The Mayo Clinic opportunity sounds interesting! I guess it just comes down to what scope of practice you want in your future healthcare profession. Either option is fantastic tho! Also, I am unsure who all is officially going - but I paid my deposit on Friday. ?

I highly doubt so. The one case of coronavirus in NC is one county over (Wake County; Duke is in Durham County). From what they have released, the infected individual is confined to their home and not in a medical facility. Plus, the most at-risk population are older adults with pre-existing conditions, so we should be fine!

Hmm weird! Maybe they are releasing them as they process them? Or it could be that I got mine faster because I sadly did not qualify for any aid... Loans for days, am I right? Haha:,) Has anyone who applied for the merit scholarship heard anything?

They were released today! I got an email from them at 6pm - it went to my spam folder tho, so I would recommend checking there if you do not see it in your inbox.

Here are my stats: Major: Public Health/Community Health Education GPA: 3.8 cumulative, 4.0 pre-req** ** I am not sure if you have taken A&P yet, but I took the EXS version at UNCW and it was accepted by all the schools that I applied to. Research: Biostatistics, Tobacco, HIV, and 3D Modeling of Macromolecules Leadership: President of multiple clubs and an SI leader Volunteer: Brunswick county community health and Meals on Wheels Internship: 3 total. One at an outpatient clinic. One at a hospital in Fayetteville. And one with UNCW CHHS. I was actually accepted to Duke's ABSN program for Fall 2020, so I will not be attending MUSC anymore ?. I have heard nothing but great things about MUSC - and all of the staff there are phenomenal to work with regarding application questions. Again, good luck! If you have any questions at all regarding MUSC or any other ABSN program, please let me know! Maybe we can meet up on campus sometime before I graduate.

I got in!! Just got the email!!

I just called on my lunch break... the representative on the phone said 3 weeks ? I don't understand that timeframe since I emailed them two weeks ago, and I was told by March 1st.

I hope we hear back today! I have been refreshing my email every 10 minutes since I got up this morning LOL

Congrats!! That is awesome! I was also accepted to MUSC ABSN! I am still waiting on Duke and Emory's new direct entry masters of nursing program. Duke is hopefully (fingers crossed) this week; and Emory will release my decision on March 13th. I was also offered a really phenomenal job opportunity post grad, so I'm struggling with what I want to do. I am hoping once I know for sure about the other schools I will be able to make a decision.

I hope we hear back by Friday too. The suspense is just killing me.... has anyone heard back from any other programs?

I emailed them last week and they said we will know by March 1st. Since March 1st is a Saturday, and I highly doubt anyone will be working in the office that day, that decisions will be posted on next Friday (Feb 28th.) But who knows...

I am not sure of the actual statistics, but I know an ABSN grad in NC and in NY (both graduated last year). Once you have your BSN and pass your NCLEX you pretty much solidify your job security - nurses are ALWAYS needed. I am sure that MUSC, given that you would be a grad from their program, would prefer you stay at MUSC (they might even try to woo you), but the decision is ultimately up to you.The only difference between states is your license - so you would need to pass a licensure exam for the state you intend to practice in. Hey @LAktl congrats on your acceptance! MUSC was the cheapest program I applied to - a lot of programs in NC/SC/VA/TN are private and cost double, if not triple. I am taking into account MUSCs education AND hospital ranking/reputation, research opportunities (I want to get my PhD after the ABSN), location (the food in Charleston is awesome), and that its unique in the sense of it being a health science center. One of the classes we take is on interprofessional education - meaning we take a seminar with students across all of their colleges (Med, Pharm, Public Health, etc). Medicine is shifting to a collective front and I think they are one of the forerunners in that. I hope those points made sense and did not come off as ramblings lol

@maya_jk to my knowledge, I have never heard of them giving an extension because of the popularity of the program (but it doesn't hurt to ask). They are also strict on deferments - they will only consider one if you are unable to attend due to some major issue that is out of your control.

Hi again! I am really hoping to hear back before then... I applied to MUSC, Duke, and Emory. I already received an acceptance to MUSC and paid their deposit back in January. Im really struggling if I want to forfeit the deposit I paid for their program to attend Duke (if accepted) - since it is my top choice. But I also struggle with Emory because their program is a direct entry Masters... I am curious what other peoples stats are? Here are mine: - public health major - 3.8 cumulative; 4.0 pre-req (missing micro and psych) - research experience (biology and public health) - internship in healthcare/hospital administration - worked at a med school's free clinic for 2 years

Hey @maya_jk congrats on your acceptance!! I know what you're going through - I hate the waiting.... I applied to MUSC, Duke, and Emory. I already paid my deposit to MUSC... so, I'm struggling with deciding if I want to forfeit that money for another program (if I get in). I hear back from them March 1 and March 13. Congrats again on your acceptance!! Good luck on your other schools, and I hope your decision will come easy ? .

I believe that is just for the Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. The DNP program is online, so you can complete it from any state, just not certain ones. I believe that has something to do with nursing scope of practice laws and how they differ by state. You should be fine since this is a program on their campus! Plus I was also an out of state applicant (from NC, so not too far).

Guess I worried a little too much haha. But I saw last Friday that my status had changed to "under faculty review," so if anyone else encounters this, don't worry like I did! Good luck to everyone applying - 2 weeks is approaching soon!!

Hey @hr2020, I found out exactly a month from when the application was due - submitted November 15th (on the last day lol) and I heard back on December 15th. I actually called them the Friday before then, I believe it was Dec 13th, and they told me my status over the phone. Hope that helps and good luck!! Hello everyone! I submitted my application for the ABSN back in November and my application still says "Ready for Review"... I am curious is anyone else is in the same situation? I emailed admissions yesterday and all they said was "Admissions decisions will be sent out before or on March 1." I just think its strange were close to that deadline and my app still isn't "under review." lol
