Advice needed please
I worked in dialysis for 10 yrs and in my opinion you can do a better job if you have a little med -surg experience under your belt . As a new grad there's a lot you haven't seen that these pts will have. Renal disease affects the entire body not just the kidney -it can be caused by diabetes, htn , trauma etc. These pts are sick .you'll be morecomfortable with more experience also. I worked for Fresenius -they don't pay real well -I make much more as a staff nurse in the hospital than I did even with the differential they pay for working in the acute unit and being the coordinator and I had maxed out .Hope this helps -good luck

Training at Fresinius
i worked for FMC and will NEVER work for them again ! they work their nurses like dogs and care more about $ than patients or staff. My experience was lack of administration back-up, a clinical manager who was over the acute unit but had never worked acute , 15-20 hr days -sometimes 10 in a row and when you ask, plead for help you're told "soon" . I no longer work for them and my BP is normal now and i get paid more for less hours-my advice do not work for Fresenius

dilemma between FMC and Davita...which one?anyone?
i worked for fresenius for 8 1/2 yrs -i kept hoping the situation would get better -over worked, underappreciated -but it didn't -i finaly got seriously ill -had a TIA because of the lack of staff in the acute unit i managed - during my recovery period the clinical manager of the renal floor of the hospital offered me a job-more $ than i was making with my acute diff. and 3 days/week as opposed to 12 days straight most of the time at least 15 hr days.I took the job-love it-have no residual from the TIA -and to tell you about the $ with fresenius my profit share after all those years was less than $2000.But more than anything else the lack of support and caring by the administration of that co. is the reason i will never work for them again

Anyone got their CDN certification
I took the exam last year -glad I did it but I did it for me -at the time I worked for Fresenius and they do not 'REWARD' you for anything . As a friend of mine said 'if they cut any more corners they'd be round". the test takes about 3 hrs. but if you've used the book and study guide you should be fine. Best of luck to you.Where are you from ?

I am quitting...after almost 7 years.
just read all the comments -I too have quit hemo after 8 1/2 yrs -last 2 1/2 yrs in acute as the coordinator the last yr.{ I think}I begged for help -staffing was down to 2 nurses that worked full time and took call ,one nurse who worked only 3 days/week and usually put in for PTO every other week and would not take call and we were doing around 300 treatments/month -only had 4 machines in the unit and 2 bedside machines. I finally had a TIA -was out for 6 weeks and when I went back discovered the lock cut off my locker because the 3 day/week person "needed" it and she had been given my position .Was offered a position by a nurse nmanager in the hospital we worked in for better hourly rate and shorter hours. And by the way no one from the unit or administration came by to see me the week I was in the hospital except for the other nurse I had been working with and he too has now left. I doubt if I would ever work for Fresenius again -they area company that just doesn't care.I' m working on athe renal/oncology floor now and enjoying it.And I get to see my husband again !
