Stanford University Acute Care Transitional (ACT) Program 2025
Hi guys! I was looking into this program and wondering if any alumni could give some advice about the application process. I was curious what type of applicants were the recruitment team looking for: bachelor's v. associates, experience, etc. I was also wondering if anyone had an example of a resume/cover letter and if they answered the questions at the end of their application with short explanations or long ones (if anyone is curious what I'm referencing, Stanford will ask about 3-4 questions towards the end of your application that are 'free responses'. Typically they would ask things like: what working at Stanford means to you; how your experience relates to the current position posted; what quality nursing care looks like; etc.) I really want to work in a hospital as a nurse and have no experience as an RN working in an acute setting (currently an Infusion nurse working for a private company). It would be a dream-come-true to work for Stanford, but I'm unsure how to tidy up my application and interviewing process so I may accomplish this goal. If anyone has any great advice it would be so very helpful! Thanks, again!

City College SF FALL 2020
Hey! I just seen this oh my goodness ! Are you #157 for CCSF? They emailed me through my CCSF email, but I also set it up so I can get notifications through my main email as well. If they’ve made it this far down the waitlist this fast I’m sure they’ll get to your number. They started telling people super late. I found out I was in EVC back in Feb as well as most schools I applied to so a lot of people are going to be giving up their spots since most schools have reached out already.

Yes ma’am! That changes everything I totally get it. At least you’ll have your RN! A lot of people say they’re not hiring RN’s with just their ADN don’t listen to them. At all. They need RN’s everywhere BAD. Especially during this pandemic so once we’re outta school they’ll be asking for us. They even come to the school to recruit the soon-to-be graduating classes

City College SF FALL 2020
Hey friends! I was also in this predicament. If you’re already enrolled into a BSN program then I would stay with that. Yes, you’ll start school sooner but the initial time spent will be much longer as opposed to you waiting til Spring and finishing out your BSN. A lot of the nurses I work with now attended private schools and are $180,000-400,000$ In debt. Eventually we’re all going to have to go to a state/university. At least you guys have the opportunity to knock it out now.

Also, I applied to CCSF last year and was waitlisted #30 I had read comments of people getting accepted previous years when their # was like 34 or 35. You just gotta try again. A lot of people give away their positions because a lot of people are waiting to hear back from BSN programs. This is for any nursing school you apply to.

City College SF FALL 2020
Never, ever loose hope. I applied to 13 schools last year, from LA to here. The school I actually wanted is the only school to accept me which is Evergreen Valley Community College in San Jose. I think you should look into them as well, you will deff get into their program. It’s very frustrating. But you will succeed. You can also try Ohlone CC in Fremont they probably will accept you as well just make sure you attend their information meeting. They hold them once a month and that’s the only way you’ll get a packet.

Yay! Dude I have a strong feeling they’ll call us and be like, “hey! You’re in!” I’m already starting at EVC Spring 2021 but I’m gonna see if CCSF says I can start in fall, if not Ill most likely give away my spot.

Hm, that’s super rude ! Sorry you had to deal with that. Someone had commented and said they were dropping Megan, so I’m sure you’ll end up getting called but it might take some time. Sorry, hun ?

Thanks so much, Tema! I like your advice and I’ve actually been leaning towards that way anyways. I’m willing to sacrifice 11 months to finally get my hands on that ‘nurse’ title! And plus I heard they have advanced placement options into ADN Programs but I don’t mind going through the process! I thought about doing LVN a couple years back when I had just turned 21 but I had so much going on. Now I’m like, girl, just go do it and stop laggin’. Hey, MrRn, they’ve got some good LVN programs, besides Unitek/Gurnick, that are much cheaper. It wouldn’t hurt to do LVN plus it can teach us how to survive RN school if we’re paranoid about the challenges. I was gonna challenge the board but I still need one more year of hospital experience (I’m at 3 years and you technically need 4 1/2). I’m 24, so, I should probably get the ball rolling!

I think I might do a LVN program just to increase my points or do an RN advanced placement. What do you guys think?

EDTECH/EMT Challenging BVNPT BOARD??
Yes. Here in Cali as long as you’ve been in the game for 4 1/2 years/51 months as a CNA/Tech you are allowed to challenge the board and take the NCLEX without ever doing a program. A lot of techs at my job who’ve been in the ER ONLY have done so and receive the LVN pay. I actually wanna work as an LVN, however. But I only have about 3 years of inpatient hospital work. But if I’m allowed to combine me working as an EMT it would sum up to almost 5 years !! Just wanted to see if anyone had heard of that before. 3 years in hospital and 1 1/2 years out in the field.

EDTECH/EMT Challenging BVNPT BOARD??
By the way, I have called BoN and they explained they wouldn't be able to tell if we are eligible with work experience over the phone or in person. The only way is to submit an application and wait to see what the Board says you're missing. (Not a lot of help)
