StonyBrook ABSN: Class of 2021
There is still time. I think my interview was in December, and it usually is about 6-8 people. Be yourself and be genuine. After the interview, there would be a quick math test and if you have taken the TEAS it would be super easy math. Make sure you can type fast for your essay because I think it was about 20 mins to write "why you want to be a nurse" along those lines. The Summer was the most difficult for me in this program. Start studying for fundamentals ahead of time. I wish I knew someone personally before the program so that would be my advice for you for the Summer. I hope your cohort is supportive because there is some competitive rivalry that some people are not willing to admit (but there is). Get your finances ready, because you will spend a lot on books close to $3,000. Also, you will cry in the Summer, lose hours of sleep, and will be studying for long periods of time because it's intense, but you will get through it. So good luck! Also, I know someone will ask "can you work?" my answer is no. You need every minute of your time to devote to this program because you are dealing with a patient's life. Learn as much as you can and ask questions. Will healthcare experience help? yes, but your peers will catch up quickly so keep moving forward. For my commuters, can it be done? yes, but you will pay a price which is time. I would move close by as possible, this is why you need to have your finances in order (it would be mentioned during your interview). Advocate for yourself! plus the professors are awesome (most of them)!

Honestly, no. But I don’t know anyone, and the Schomburg apartment seem to be the cheapest if you look online. Based on past threads our clinicals may start at Stonybrook which I can take the shuttle and walk to the hospital. After that semester is over I will have to uber or carpool. It’s crazy bc I was an EMT and looks like you were too, but somehow we got away with it bc I was always in the back with the pt.

SUNY Downstate ABSN 2020-2021
Same here. Still waiting for a rejection email or an interview. I took the TEAS late november before they extended the deadline and was grateful bc I submitted my application early December. The first week of January I received an email to upload a missing document, which I did. But, I had to call bc for some reason my checklists did not show I submitted my transcript. Anyway I am still waiting for them to call me. I am done with all my prereqs; I just wished I applied earlier.

Yes, you need to take the TEAS for LIU. I went to their admission office when I was searching for nursing schools and the passing rate seems to be pretty low for their program. It's a private school and they would want you to apply to their program the same day if you have your transcript.
