I am also a basic bedside psychiatric nurse with psychiatric certification and MSN in education. The five years after obtaining the MSN I just worked at my regular CMH job and adjunct taught at a community college. This has led to a full time teaching job. This change is recent so too soon to know how it is going but wanted to tell you about my situation. Psy is always so hard, trying to match up skills and qualifications and has limited employers.

Hi This is also my speciality area. I have found it difficult to obtain a full-time teaching position.I was doing adjunct for a while then last year the program moved mental health to spring only and I could not find ANY work for fall.I obtained a list of nursing schools from the state then applied for every nursing program in the state and online. I now have a position that is about half mental health. Guess it does depend on the area. I love psych and have MSN plus certification. I have found the speciality to always been limiting in number of possible employers. You may need to be willing to teach in another area of nursing if you want full-time. I am hoping with time I will be assigned to only mental health instruction.

I took the ROPD program, so I think this is the same type program. The program require a 120 hour clinical practicum and 240 hour teaching practicum. I worked full time, but my employer was open until 8pm. I could go to my practicum very early then go to work in the evening. My preceptor did allow me to log hours preparing lecture, grading, and the school had weekend lab hours I could get some time with students on skill practice. It is so difficult to work and get hours, but possible. Do you have summers off? If so maybe you could find a summer program. I know one university near me has an evening program I did look into that but could not get a preceptor agreement. Best wishes, this was almost a barrier to not finishing for me.
