So even 1 year of experience would make a difference? Also, would the technical school matter then or would they look more so at my experience at that point? I’m hoping not to wait that long but if I have then it is what it is haha.

Would it be better if we try to stay in Utah for a year and me work for a year before moving? Would that help?

That’s awesome! How do you like it? We need to take a trip in the next year and a half and figure out where we want to live haha. I wish there was that type of program here ? For 2 yr or 4 yr schools I still need about 2-4 semesters of pre-requisites and then the programs still take 4 semesters (they don’t go through the summer) so essentially 2 years and then I could do my BSN. There is one program that takes a yr but they have over 270 applicants and only take 70 ? It makes it tough to put my eggs in that basket haha. Maybe I’ll just get a phlebotomy license and work until my kiddos are older and can go back to school. They are 2.5, 7 months, and one on the way. So that probably won’t be for a while.

We will be moving to the Dallas area, probably a suburb like Frisco or Allen so that’s where I would be looking. I would be graduating with my BSN from a university (I would be transferring the RN from the technical school to the university to finish my BSN) before getting to Texas. But you recommendation is the same? They don’t have accelerated programs for bachelor’s degree holders in Utah ? I have noticed they do have those sort of programs in Texas though. The difficult part is I have three kids and while in Utah have family that can help me get through school, once I’m in Texas that won’t be the case ?

My husband and I will be moving to Texas in about 2 years, he will hopefully be getting a job offer with Deloitte (accounting firm). I’m in the process of figuring out nursing school, I already have a bachelors in psychology, am older and have two kids. I’m thinking about going to a technical school to get my RN and then could transfer to a university to get my BSN online. I’ve already looked into the logistics of everything. But the problem is we would be moving just as I graduate. I do have hospital experience as a blood gas tech in a university hospital (I was on the trauma team as part of this job) and I’ve been an interpreter (I speak Spanish fluently) in a hospital and clinic setting. Could realistically get a job when I move to Texas? I’ll be doing all of my clinics in Utah and therefore could get a job offer here but not in Texas. Would it be better to try to stay here a year and work and then move? What would you suggest? Also, would it make a difference in how marketable I am if I go to a technical school instead of a traditional university/college to get my RN? It’s just a much shorter route for me (much more expensive though).

So the program cost are $50,000 with everything included (books, fees, tuition, etc). But Utah is pretty cheap when it comes to higher education and going to a traditional school would be about $20,000 or more cheaper. The program is 18 months, which is the most appealing part because that includes everything. Every other program here I would need at least two semesters of pre-requisites if not 4 semesters. Plus their programs last anywhere from 1 yr to most being 2 years.

I am 29 years old, married and have two kids with one on the way. I don't have time to waste so I am considering Ameritech. Right now I am in Utah but we will be moving to Texas in 2 years. Right now I have my families help and support, when we move to Texas I won't have any family around. I would love to choose a traditional university for nursing school but, my time is limited I only have 2 years left in Utah, and I don't have my Physiology or Anatomy finished. Then there is a matter of even getting into a program, everything is so competitive here and again I don't have time to waste. I'm scared that I won't get in to anything even after doing the pre-requisites. Which is why I'm very seriously considering Ameritech, however the stigma behind choosing it and the price tag are my two hold backs. After asking a nursing friend of mine, she said get it done as fast as possible, no one really cares where you get your RN from. I would be transferring my RN to UVU and doing my BSN there, because I have a bachelors already my generals are done and they would allow me to do this, after buying some nursing credits that don't fully transfer over from Ameritech. Or I could get my BSN from WGU as well. HELP!!! I'm so lost and confused
