  1. Patient was AxOx1 on arrival, her baseline. She was unable to answer any of my questions. But yes absolutely, I will definetly clarify this first for all future patients.
  2. Hi everyone, Just needed a little advice and reassurance on something that happened a few days ago. I'm an RN on a telemetry unit and I admitted a patient with syncope, super stable. About 5 hours into shift, she went into Vtach, and code blue was called. Team arrives, resuscitates her within 4 minutes. She was transferred to ICU on Bipap and back to her normal baseline neuro status (aXoX1). Code status was full code by default. Turns out, she had a POLST from last year, stating DNR/DNI with selective treatment. Code status was not updated. I have been experiencing extreme guilt and sadness over this, and am terrified for my job. Charge nurse reamed me, stating I should have looked for a POLST. I Other team members said they would have done same thing as I would have. Incident report was filed. Has anyone else been in this situation?
  3. I've had to work throughout both semesters. I worked roughly 15-20 hours a week at a restaurant(usually Friday/Saturday, sometimes Thursdays), and usually babysat Wednesday nights. Be aware that most hospital sites require you to go the day before to pick out your patients, and you do an entire write-up on your patient that takes 5-6 hours the night before clinical. Having to work and having school made me make the most of my time, so if you need to work, its totally doable. The first semester is something totally different that what you have experienced before, and it takes a lot of adjusting. I would reduce my hours if I were in your position. I personally get a little stir crazy only doing one thing. So working at a restaurant was a good escape from nursing coursework, and improved my time management. Honestly, I'm struggling more now due to no work and not having to go to school.
  4. Lecture is always going to be on Wednesday. Our professors now record the powerpoint slides and their lecture and post it on online. You watchthe lectures at your own pace, but they do take roughly about 2-3 hours and they provide detailed lecture notes. We have a weekly Q&A session on Wednesday’s from 10-11:30, so it is expected you have already watched the lecture and took notes. The professor does a quick overview and answers questions. As for clinical(depending on your assigned clinical day), we used online case studies and a program called V-sim, which is an online simulation program with different medical/surgical scenarios, and there are questions you must answer before and after. Those simulations and assignments would take roughly 4 or so hours each, and on some clinical days we had 2.

  6. Hey! I'm currently a 2nd semester student at saddleback, and wanted to give you a little update. I'm sure you're all super nervous about finding out if you got accepted. For myself, I believe I was accepted with about 79 points, with 1000 hrs CNA experience and all B's in science prereqs. -Our clinical sites are still pending for fall, we have not heard about when we will be going back to the hospital. -We may be able to go to practice for our required skills days in small groups. 1st semester has 4 days of skills days within first two weeks. -All lectures will be held online. I'm happy to answer any questions!
  7. Just received my acceptance off the alternate list! They didn’t give me a number so not sure where the rest of you may stand. Good luck to you all!
  8. Called and they said more information for the alternates will be sent next week!
  9. Just asked when they are sending out letters! They said later this week or on Monday
  10. If any of you also applied to Cypress, I just called and they are sending out emails May 3rd.
  11. Thanks. Hoping I actually get in. Only thing I can think of is a random selection for some of the alternates? I have 1000+ CNA hours, do you have those as well ?
  12. Excuse me? Not prioritising the people that really want to get into school first? Maybe i miscalculated my points, my apologies. No need for you to say that me being put on the alternate list is a mistake.
  13. I believe it was either my 3rd or 4th time applying.
  14. Placed as an alternate with 74 points. Fingers crossed a lot of you deny your spots
