Hi everyone! I also applied to the residency ? I was wondering if anyone has any insight into how current or past resident nurses at Memorial like or dislike the program? It's hard to find any info on the forums and I'm just trying to get a better feel for the hospital itself, what the residency actually entails, and if new nurses feel supported there. Thanks!

About two weeks ago, the advisor I was emailing with said, "Applications are still being reviewed. You should be receiving communication from our Admissions Coordinator by mid September." I'm anxious about how long it will take to complete all of the required background checks and immunizations ? but they must have the admissions timeline planned out in a way that makes sense. Have to trust the process I suppose!

Hi! Does anyone have any exciting updates? LOL. I finished my last prereqs on August 3rd and had my final transcript sent in, but I haven't heard anything or gotten any notifications from FIU or NursingCAS. ?

My last prerequisite (Statistics) wraps up in a couple of weeks! Application is in and there's nothing else to be done... Now, how do I stop myself from thinking about this every moment from now until September? ?? Totally, agree @br3338, the more info we can all share about the program, the better! Hi everyone! It was previously mentioned that now they will be accepting 60 students to the Spring 2020 cohort, but I got some more info from the advisor the other day, so I figured I would share. They are accepting 30 applicants from the pool of 2nd bachelor's degree students like always, and they are also accepting another 30 applicants from the Foreign Educated Physician pool. So, if we get in we will be in classes with about 60 students total (more than I anticipated), but this doesn't impact our chances of getting in at all, as they will still accept only 30 from each group. Also, she said that the decision to switch from the 2-week December mini-term to the October start Fall B term was based on student feedback. She said that the 2-week term was too jam-packed and busy. When I spoke to her she said that they still hadn't determined the exact schedule for the Fall B term, but that the classes will definitely be during the day. If anyone else has additional info, please share!

@jkeenan Hope you got an answer from them! The way I understood it, the deposit is due tomorrow or Wednesday.

@erose29^^ There are no scholarships available until after the program begins. She said that in the past they did make the scholarship applications available before the program started, but then all of the people who were not awarded the scholarships would withdraw from the program because they were all banking on getting the scholarships... now the scholarships are made available only to people who are in the program, and once the program is well underway.

Hi everyone, I spoke with Ms. C today and she said that they could have up to 100 students in the cohort, but not more than that. Just figured I would share since I had been under the impression that they would admit up to 70. Also, a few limited scholarship opportunities will be made available after the first semester. These would not cover the majority of the tuition cost but would be one or two for $10k, a few for $5k, etc. Financial aid awards for second-degree students are not common. @Mr.lucky1 I took the TEAS for my FIU application. I bought a book on Amazon called ATI TEAS Secrets (it has a yellow cover). I thought the book was ok. I read the whole thing and did two of the practice tests. I also bought a practice test directly from ATI. Good luck!

Has anyone spoken with admissions recently to get any new info regarding admission decision timeline, cohort size, details of the Fall B session, etc.? So tired of waiting! I've already been accepted to the two other programs I applied to, but FIU is my first choice!!

This is the tough decision I need to make by next Tuesday ? Not sure yet.

@Mr.lucky1 No bother! Sounds like you are on track and have great stats. Teri will review your transcripts and go over everything with you. Do you mean how you choose between the Accelerated and Traditional? You can definitely just apply straight to the Accelerated track if that's what you want to do and complete all of the requirements. That's what I did. They caution you that it is intense and you shouldn't expect to work during the program, but it's the same for all such programs.

@csrnurse I hope that helps a little, I wish I knew more! I hope some other folks will chime in ?

Interesting. IF you do want to go on to eventually be a nurse practitioner (just making an assumption here) I'm not sure what the advantage of the Hopkins program would be since it doesn't seem to set you up for that. I really don't know anything about it, just that you said you can't sit for the NP boards. Hmm. The pace will be tough no matter where you go. Is it the same number of credits or does the Hopkins one have more credits to complete? It may balance out to be a similar credit load per semester. But I feel you on this. I do not know about the grade requirements. Does anyone know?? Scary!

They put all applicants into pre-nursing first. You'll then speak with the advisor to go over which requirements you have satisfied and which you are still missing, which will determine which enrollment date you shoot for for the actual program. I'm sure that if you already did your homework and planned out your prerequisite trajectory you'll be fine for Spring 2020, this is just the terminology and process that they use. Just try to get the soonest advising appointment you can so you get the ball rolling. The appointment can be conducted over the phone if you can't go there in person. Everyone I've dealt with at Barry is very nice and helpful, but there is one main advisor for all of undergraduate nursing and she is a little over-booked so you'll need to be patient. Good luck!
