I am not good at nursing
You are absolutelly being too hard on yourself. Beating yourself up is only going to make you unsure of yourself and you will make more errors. Listen, im not the most "by the book" nurse out ther but ive done 5 years on med surg, ive worked in nursing homes, home health for 3 yrs, clinics, psych nursing, clinic nursing. My medsurg experience was crucial but i cant stand part of med surg and find med passes quite droll. My niche is clinic nursing. Im well suited to ot, i develop a terrific rapport with pts and can explain things well. But it doesnt not require me to use some of the skills where im weak. One of the best things about nursing is that theres a million and one things you can do. Listen, you did right by your pt and the pt the MRI. You recognize that you missed an important part of the order. I would be far more concerned if you didnt realize your mistake. Give yourself 5-6 more months on this unit (for the experience) and in the meantime slow down, read orders, try to keep the big picture in mind for you pt, dont get bogged down and stressed over the minuta, like a med pass thats a little late. You might consider asking you supervisor to give some extra support/training or cut your pt load for a few weeks so you can regain your composure and set baby step goals for improvemeny. On your days off, start exploring the internet for what other RN jobs are oug there in your area. If you have a local college, you will probably be a great resource nurse. Another thing in nursing is that you have the freedom to try various jobs, "job hopping" so to speak is rarely a determint in this feild Dont give up, find your niche

VA Proficiency Nurse III Frustration & Appeal
Cant say as i blame you! What gets me is that i got zero replies to any of my questions (which by now are moot) yet dozens of people piped up when they wanted something It was very kind of you to offer and share with so many

Senator Maureen Walsh: When Do Nurses Have Time to Play Cards?
Guess what!! Nurses in critical access hospitals need these mandates even more than nurses in big hospitals. Ive worked in a 24 bed hospital. and now work on a medsurg unit with 45 med surg bed(not huge by any means), but in both jobs i was pretty much on call during lunch and break times, having to answer phone/call lights. But let me tell you, i was far more likely to miss meals in the smaller hospital due to the lack of ancillary and back up staff: theres NOONE to answer those call lights At least in the bigger unit, we have a CNA or ward clerk usually. But ive had many ice cold "hot" lunches because i had to get to the cafeteria before they closed at 130 and leave my lunch on the breakroom counter for 2,3,4 hours untill i had enough time to eat. Cards? Huh? And, by the way, critical access hospitals are reimbursed at higher rates from medicare, they can afford to have a circulator for covering breaks and lunches. But as long as we just stick it out and take it (which as nurses we do) they wont care unless they are mandated by law. Id prefer to have my loved ones taken care of nurses who arent hungry, tired and trying to run to the potty.

VA Proficiency Nurse III Frustration & Appeal
Yes. My recrutier gave me the proficency outline for nurse III. This was after the intial HR paperwork. And at the same time as they had me put info in VETPRO. 5 days later they called with the salary offer and set up physical and fingerprints. Which im doing mondau The nurse recruiter told me the best way to address them was to give examples so I did but I knew that I'd lack in any kind of mgmt/organizational wide activities. I have leadership type roles to draw on though. so I wasn't surprised to get a nurse II, step 4. Its only a little more, but because its a 40 hr week i will make more. Any ideas how long it should take to get my "firm offer"? They gave me a tenative start date of may 12/13, but i have yet to get my firm offer. I would like to give 2 weeks notice to my current employerd and take a week off byw jobs.... its been about 10 days since i last had to send info (that was the e-qip background check) and HR told me a week ago they were done with verifying everything and my stuff would go back to the nurse board to draft my firm offer. Getting nervous

Starting pay at VA clinic HELP
They offered 33.46 I really dont have lit of experience doing projects, etc. Mostly staff nursing, with some charge nursing and assist mgmt role in a clinic. I figured i wouldnt met for level 3. But its about 30 cents more than i currently make working 36 hrs a week. So im not losing anything at all and i will have potential to earn more over the years. Plus, i can get off the medsurg floor, and be rid of inexperienced snotty mgrs who have no real world experience and very little floor experience. So I'm excited.

Starting pay at VA clinic HELP
overHi all. Im new here. I have a tenative offer for a VA clinic. Im super excited. I currently make 33/hr as a medsurg floor nurse. I have a Masters degree in nursing education with 11 yrs experience. ive been a clinic nurse, homehealth/hospice nurse worked long term care and a total of just over 5 yrs as a medsurg nurse. In my previous medsurg position i was a partime charge nurse and precepted new nurses. I understand that pay grades are not as straightforward as it appears on theapplication. Based on the education and years experience i should be a level 3. But, alas i guess theres more too it. I was told i will have to write an essay addressing dimensiins of nursing practice. I am suoer worried about getting at least the same or more pay as i do currently. I dont have a lot of mgmt experience and have not really had opportunity to effect organizational type changes Any advice/examples of how i can write/word this essay for the best possible grade/pay step? And do thry ask for additional documentation/proof ofexperiences you cite? And do they coorelate experiences with jobs you listed on your app? Ive had some per diem and short term jobs that i didnt put on my application but some of them included good leadership examples i could use and, is there a minimal level/grade i can be sure of getting based only on my degree and years of experience, no matter how good/bad my essay write up is?
