  1. No, you won’t need them for orientation. It’s business attire for that day.
  2. I took Nutrition, Microbiology + Lab, human growth & dev & psych in the same semester. I found nutrition to be one of the more facilitated and easy courses. I did have a great professor supported by her TA. Maybe you can ask around for suggestions by students who took it at your university? For the most part, you can get the best info like that. But you can do it! Making flash cards based on the notes was the best way for me to earn my A in nutrition. I literally made a flash card for every single thing. Hope that helps!
  3. I just have one piece of advice: you NEVER give up no matter what. You keep pushing and studying to get the grade you want. Don’t listen to advisors either! They are disgruntled people for the most part. Retake A&P and change your study habits, write things down, be able to explain things to best prepare yourself for exams, get an ipadpro2 with Apple Pencil to label parts for anatomy, study with 1-2 more people not more than that, exercise at least 45 mins a day & avoid sugary drinks at all costs and you will get the grade you deserve. Be willing to make sacrifices and STUDY your heart out. Don’t worry about the C in nutrition. That can take a back seat. You want to show you went from a D to an A in anatomy and nursing schools will eat that up. Also, apply to holistic approach schools, not the ones with their nose up in the air who only go by GPA. Gpa is ***. Effort, motivation, ability to show growth, ability to show strong verbal and non verbal communication and relentless determination is what you need to show!
  4. I created the chat for Miami cohort but only received one request.
  5. Kaplan didn’t cost anything on that day. I’m sure my application fee covered it and the $200 I paid when I got accepted, etc. There is no out of pocket additional fee to take the test on interview day.
  6. To be honest, if you feel uncomfortable at a work setting, you have every right to speak up about it or fine a better place to work. Nobody is forced to stay somewhere they don’t like. It’s not a matter of “if they receive criticism well, or they haven’t mastered a skill yet...bla bla bla...” obviously it’s a concern and a clear indicator that someone cares deeply when they seek advice on a forum. I don’t see the preceptor in this case, asking for help on how not to be rude, mean, power-tripping to new nurses! Rather, I see new nurses who expect a lot from themselves asking other nurses for advice and that is an indicator of strength and success! When you realize you want to improve and need help in certain areas, it only shows how much you care about your work.
  7. I just wanted to add something else to my previous advice. Some one mentioned here that you should go see your doctor to get anxiety meds. Don’t do that. That should only be reserved for cases that have no other option. We are all human and we know that because we cry, right? So, I suggest considering adopting an exercise routine, run, bike swim, etc, and burn your stress off like that. Exercise releases endorphins and endorphins are our body’s natural way to feel good. Burning stress off with exercise will not only benefit you and your body and give you a sound mind, but it will benefit future relationships with people. Popping a pill isn’t the solution. You’re a new nurse. Find a better environment or even consider signing up for professional development courses offered by the hospital, etc. We are all a work in progress. You WILL get through this! Believe you are limitless and anything is possible! Wishing you the best!
  8. That is great advice. I agree. I’m sure she stayed there that long due to sheer determination to make things work. It’s obvious that environment is poisonous. I also liked your advice on avoiding tears by rolling eyes back!
  9. I don’t be mind starting it so we can all start getting to know each other and fill each other in on details. I guess we can start by sending me names and cell #’s? My email is: [email protected]
  10. Yay! I got accepted in February and wondering who also got accepted from my interview day! My Interview day was Feb 19. I would love to start a whats app group for Miami campus!
  11. Wow! I’m sorry but it sounds like the nurses on that floor are complete and utter bi**%#s!!! You need to leave to a better setting because that environment seems poisonous and not uplifting/teamwork based!!! There are hundreds of thousands of job experiences out there. Go find the one where you will be appreciated for the determined and dedicated nurse you are. Know your value and strength and leave behind anyone who is jealous of that. The nurses who told you, “oh you should know that by now?” Yeah, I’d love to give them a piece of my mind! Don’t let those dummies step on you. Get the heck out of there! Find a job in an urgent care or minute clinic setting where you can have a small team based approach and practice your skills there. Then once you feel you want a bigger scale, then look for a hospital setting. Those dummy nurses who told you that, forget they are human beings and karma will hit them in the face soon. In the end we are all entitled to learn, thrive and flourish at different paces. But those who give themselves importance by stepping on others will feel the worst of it eventually. You’ll see. Life has a way of balancing out any perceived power. It’s never in one place for too long. Find a new setting where you can flourish at your pace and you will fly to greater heights than any of those rotten people you work with!!!! I just got accepted to nursing school and it’s my third college career. I have always learned to listen to my heart and never compare myself with anyone. I love working in a team but if I am being verbally abused or bullied in any way, you better believe I’ll stop that dead in it’s tracks. People on “power trips” tend to forget that we are all carbon based beings doomed to decay eventually. I like to remind those people to uplift each other because our quality time in earth depends wholeheartedly on that concept. It is in giving that we receive. Those people you work with may not realize it but they are only cheating themselves. You are smarter than that. Go find a place where uplifting happens!!!!!!
