  1. Hi, I haven't pursued by plans any further due to various reasons, although I haven't ruled it out forever. However for you guys, I am wondering if working in an Emergency Department of a major or district hospital for a period would assist in overcome the deficiency in paediatric experience. Having worked in a busy district emergency department with a high proportion of paediatric presentations, I gained plenty of experience in all levels of paediatric acuity, from triage to direct nursing care. Great learning, and the skills gained were exceptional. Of course, like any emergency department, there was also some obstetric presentations but the ED only cared or the very ill ones who had to be stabilised. If I pursue my plan of working in the US I hope I will be able to capitalise on my previous ED experience when applying. However, reading all of your comments, and given the varying requirements from each of the US states, it doesn't seem there are clear criteria to apply. The Agency, Avant (US) may be able to assist navigate this challenging process. Good luck!
  2. Hi oz-nurse, I haven't pursued it any further, but I do intend to soon. I will keep you posted. Good luck.
  3. Hi Aussie nurses, and YeXinZhi, With 15 years RN experience, mainly in acute/critical care & emergency, I'm also an Australian (NSW) nurse interested in working in the USA, preferably New York. My thoughts were to work there on a temporary basis - ie around 12-18 months. I have not started any process yet, but I have read your comments, and wondering how you've progressed. I did communicate via email with US-based international recruitment agency 'Avant Healthcare Professionals' (check their website) who guide you through the lengthy and challenging process, and basically take care of most of it. They were excellent in answering some basic initial questions I asked before I began the process. It was through this communication they informed me that they offer a minimum 3-year contract at one location. For me, 3 years is too long, so I'm now looking for other agencies offering temporary employment. Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
