  1. Hello, Am a SRNA in the PA. I will graduate in may 2010 and am considering relocating to Dallas TX. I do not know any CRNA/SRNA to hook me up. I think that Baylor and Parkland are the main hospitals in Dallas (if i am correct). I was wondering if anyone has info that can help me get details like job availability, CRNA-MDA working relationship and the overal CRNA atmosphere. I appreciate your help. Laban.
  2. All flashes and flash bags normal saline. We only use heparin when ordered specifically. Post CABG patients with heparin bag hanging, it is immediately switched to saline.
  3. I will be a SRNA come Jan. 2008. I have a long term aspiration of doing management. i did an extensive online search on advanced degrees. At the moment, i would complete anesthesia school the I will probably (if i dont change my options) go for a terminal degree; PHD in healthcare management, policy and research or something along those lines. good luck in your persuit.
  4. Do I work with you tigermonkey? I work in Post open heart unit with similar patient population. Apart from the post operative orders that cover a wide array of medication that can be used, we have unit protocols (with more leeway) that allow us to manipulate hemodynamics independently. I appreciate the level of autonomy that we have. As long as you have a sound rationale in your treatment, I believe you will not ‘go to jail’.
  5. It is unfortunate that such incidents happen. I have worked in long term care, med-surge and now ICU. I agree with you and the rest that giving both drugs should not lead to termination. Since you mentioned that you live in a small town, have you considered relocating? Maybe doing a research of other larger hospitals away from your ‘small town’ and starting all over can give you a fresh start. I hope the incident will not bog you down and ruin your career. I sincerely wish you all the best in your pursuit for a job that suits your needs.
  6. I agree with the above. Not all schools accept ER experience hence limiting the number of schools you can apply to.
  7. Hi Bodo, I interviewed at Jefferson and was accepted for class beggining Jan 08. This was the last group interviwed for the class (so we were told). The director and the assistant made it very informal and as stress free as posible. i was just asked to describe myself and my clinical experience. I will advice you to be relaxed and confident. you can pm me if you need more specifics
  8. If the CRNA program you intend to apply to require those classes as prerequisites, then definitely retake them. If not, then work on the overall presentation which looks good in my view (overall GPA > 3.5). You may also choose to retake them to be more competitive when applying.
  9. My take is that you have been accepted. I highly suugest you give the school a call and ask all the questions you may have. They will clarify much better that we can speculate. Congradulations.
  10. My suggestion is going for BSN. That way your choice of schools for anesthesia won't be limited. If electives don't cover all the pre-med sciences during the course of the BSN, pick a science minor (or major if you feel like it) that will cover all of them. Good luck.
  11. I applied to four schools. Frank J. Tornetta School of Anesthesia; Interviewed - not accepted Jefferson; Interviewed - accepted. Beginning Jan. 08. hurrrrrahhhhh Villanova; no response yet UMDNJ; no response yet. This site was a big help. Thank you all. And Good luck to all.
