  1. Thank you so much. I'm very excited to have found the distance learnign forum. A bit late but I am thankful.
  2. Thank you. I understood that Rue was a publishing company and weighed the pros and cons of it. Including the money ( I wish I hadn't have) but I'm ok with it :) I was concerned with the testing aspect of it due to having labs etc while we were in LPN school. Thank you so much for your insight and look for me in days to come. I know I will be full of questions :)
  3. I am preparing to take my first pre-requisite with Rue I studied all available options and felt Rue would aide me with the materials. Anyhow I was wandering once you finish each course, what does the testing consist of? Are there any check offs per say with Ethics, A7P etc. I woudl love to know the testing aspect of it. Tahnk you
  4. I like to make mine shine with the pipe cleaners :)
  5. I haven't found a website yet. However, the way that we document changes is highlight the whole space through the end of the month, then write D/C, date and initial. For Coumadin changes we will write "Hold' in the spaces if only holding 1 or 2 days. If longer we get a D/C order, note it in the chart and then resume with a new order when labs indicate per MD. That prevents med errors. I hope this helps :)
  6. I also live in Louisville, I would love to make that an hour :) However it is more than likely overtime. Or job incentives maybe.
  7. I know there are horror stories of LTC. I work LTC per choice and honestly I go in to work happy and leave happy. LTC in some areas are improving greatly since awareness is there and the Patients needs are always first where I am employed. Families are involved with the plan of care and we really are blessed with the facility we have. I know it was not always that way. I speak with families when they tour our facility and I see them cry with the decison of having to bring their loved one there. In reality they need to feel safe and feel that their loved one will be taken care of and that they will be involved in decisons regarding their care. I know there are not the best facilities out there and hopefully during state inspections and proper reporting these places will one day be weeded out. It is extrememly difficult working and caring for aloved one. My father in law lives with us, he has stage 4 multiple myeloma. for 7 months I have been working, taking care of my 3 children. Chemo twice a week and somehow managing to keep it together. In the process I am losing the time for myself. LTC is not a choice for him right now as he has expressed the want to be with us and the children and I respect that. However it is every difficult being 27 and doing everything I am doing. It isn't a selfish choice to put your loved one in LTC. You just need to be aware of the facilty. Tour it many times and ask questions. Challenge them if you aren't comfortable. Report anything that you see unfit. Without others speaking up, the facilities that are allowed to remain open will continue to lead to poor respect for LTC.
  8. I can speak of this on a personal level. My ex husband was killed 2 years ago by a drunk driver in broad daylight. His wife was pregnant at the time and there are 3 beautiful children robbed. Drinking and Driving is unacceptable regardless of profession.
  9. The dose was before breakfast and before supper so over 2 days she recieved 4 doses. I agree 100% with you. I am always checking and double checking. As a result we are all passing meds with the in house Pharmacist checking us off tommorow. I appreciate your thoughts on this.
  10. Thank you. I just hate it for all those involved. The Baylor Program has it's benifits, but in the long run it is too much.
  11. I have a question. We have to have an inservice tommorow due to a nurse making a Med Error. She gave Amaryl to a patient 4 times due to the fact she works 16 hr shifts back to back. Wrong Pt. Wrong Med situation. She is a nervous wreck and is in a meeting with the DON as we speak. The Pt is in Resp Failure with a blood sugar of 29. What is going to happen to this nurse? She is a dear friend of mine and I feel sorry for her. The whole situation is terrible and I feel so bad for the resident and family involved. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
